Dragonfly

Fic Title: Dragonfly
Main Character: TaecyeonXNichkhun

Warnings: not really…
Word count: 8,388
Prompt used: Firefly AU
Summary: Taecyeon is the captain of a ship, known as the Escorial, a Dragonfly type of spaceship. He and his crew are more than talented in taking on dangerous missions.

“Captain? Captain?!” The now very alarmed voice of my pilot called out, letting me flinch thanks to the urgency in it. I haven’t heard him at first, probably because I was busily lifting bags of coffee beans.
“What?” I asked irritated. Knowing that there was something up, but hoping it wasn’t too drastic.
“There is a ship approaching.” The voice told me, making me flinch once more.
Damn it!
“What kind of ship?” I asked, keeping up my work, knowing that I would hate his answer.
“Sanctum. It’s a ship from Sanctum and I fear that they’ve…” I heard him curse as a beeping sounded in the background. “Yeah, they’ve just noticed us and demand an answer.”
“…” I cursed and grunted in appreciation
as I felt the helping hands who took the bag full of coffee beans.
“Get back in, guys. Right now.” Junho hissed, the engine of our ship getting louder in the background of our ear pieces.
“Calm down, we are on our way.” The serene voice of Chansung answered the frantic plea of our pilot, nodding towards Nichkhun who was also holding a bag full of those precious black beans.
I hurriedly grabbed the last one, happy that in space everything weighted lighter.
Nodding towards my companions, the three of us pushed of from the spaceship wrack and drifted towards our waiting ship.
As soon as we neared the hatchway, we were pulled in by our individual safety strings that were attached to out spacesuits.
As soon as we were back in the Escorial, our spaceship, Junho filled the hatchway with oxygen. Right when the green light to our right appeared, we removed our now heavy helmets, getting rid of the rest of the uniform.
When the heavy item was gone, I took a sigh of relief, happy that we managed to bring the much wanted commodity to safety.
After two weeks of boring and lousy jobs, we finally achieved a good job offer with great payment. Therefore I was more than happy that we managed to get all the goods and with that the job done.
I felt myself stumbling back as Junho seemed to speed up. I looked towards Chansung, knowing that our pilot was probably trying to flee from Sanctus’s henchmen.
“He’ll get rid of them in no time.” Chansung hummed, pushing down the rest of the heavy fabric of his uniform.
He now stood in simple clothes. A tight long sleeved shirt and matching jeans that were equally black as his hair.
“Sure he will. It’s his job.” Nichkhun commented sarcastically as he also stepped out of his uniform.
He then lifted one of the bags once more, placing the now heavier item over his very broad shoulder.
He then walked passed me and Chansung and mumbled something incoherent.
For someone who was supposed to be very calm and silent he sure had a very bad mouth, I heard that much.
“Come on, captain. Let’s visit Junho and find out how many ships are following us.”
I simply nodded; agreeing to Chansung’s idea even thought I knew he wasn’t worried about our chasers. He just wanted to see Junho.

“You guys gave me a heart attack. Seriously.” Junho commented as soon as he heard the heavy metallic door closing behind him without turning around to check who just entered.
“There was no need to be worried, Junho. I mean, it’s us we are talking about.” I joked, knowing that the man hated it when I said something like this.
“Yeah, yeah. The almighty captain, Taecyeon, and his two well-trained allies.” He snorted, pushing a few buttons and heaving a heavy sigh.
“They gave up.” Chansung said, leaning against the wall to his right.
“Yeah, but they were quite stubborn this time. I swear, if they located out Dragonfly number, we are dead meat.” Junho hummed darkly while turning around in his chair, facing me.
“I’m sure they didn’t. A Dragonfly ship is much faster than their Harlequin models.” I said, trying to calm him down, knowing that he couldn’t sleep if he didn’t get the confirmation that everything was fine.
Turning towards Chansung I saw him looking at me in disappointment.
I couldn’t help but laugh at him. I knew the tall man would’ve preferred a Junho who couldn’t sleep. Because he usually used those nights to distract Junho with something more productive than just lying in bed and wondering if really everything was okay.
Now that I assured the handsome pilot that everything was good, Chan sure had to try a little harder to get what he wanted.
Examine the equally tall man next to me, I just couldn’t help but snort.
“Don’t give me that look. He’ll gladly agree to your needs.” I huffed in amusement as I noticed a blushing Junho. Chansung smiled widely in response.

Just when I was about to enter my cabin, still smiling to myself, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
Turning around my heart nearly stopped pumping as Wooyoung’s face was right in front of mine, staring at me with a giant smile and bright and sparkling eyes.
“So how was your mission, captain?” He beamed at me and I had to step back in order to look at him properly.
“It was successful, Wooyoung. Thanks for asking.” I answered, raising a brow since I knew that even Wooyoung was more or less always that hyped up and happy, there still was something he wanted from me.
“So, I was wondering when we are reaching the next stop?” He asked me, pointing towards the cockpit door, indicating that he knew I had talked about our route with Junho.
“I think in 1-2 days, if we keep up this pace.” I answered. “Why? Is there something you need?”
Wooyoung was our mechanic, a very talented one on top of that. Therefore I suspected he needed something since he usually was busy with either keeping the ship in shape, or experimenting with other things. So when he asked me when we would arrive our next stop, I guessed he needed something important.
“Well, one of the motors isn’t behaving well since a few days. Bluntly said, if we don’t get a new one in the next days we won’t go anywhere anymore.” He said, smile on his lips.
Seriously. He sure had a very positive attitude.
“If we do get paid like settled, we could get a few things so you can repair the motor.” I said, my smile reappearing as I saw Wooyoung’s furrowed brows.
“I’m not sure if that’s enough, captain.” He admitted and I reached out for him, patting his shoulder.
“I’m pretty sure with your talent it’s more than enough. I trust you.” I then winked at him and finally managed to slip into my cabin, taking a sigh as I looked at my bed. A bed that was occupied.
“Took you rather long today.” A deep husky voice hummed, making me shiver. He sure had a very soothing and nice voice. I could listen to him all the time.
“You know we had to get this through in order to get some money when we reach Heavean, Minjun.”
“Well, if we reach Heavean. I mean, Wooyoung told me about the motor. Some spaceships had chased us and Junho is worrying about that they’ve managed to track out ship number. On top of that Nichkhun is getting crankier by the day and Chansung, well, he seems pretty happy as far as I can tell.” The bronze haired man muttered, sitting up in my bed and pointing towards me.
“And I know that you are lacking some…release.” He hummed darkly, a sparkle appearing in his eyes.
“We will reach Heavean. And now stop analysing.” I answered rather amused.
Minjun then patted on the free space next to him, on my bed. I couldn’t help but raise a brow at him, before giving in and walking towards the smiling man and taking a seat.
The guy was like a psychologist, not only listening to our problems but also noting every little change in our attitude. But the job he had on our little transport ship was actually that of a doctor, and he was more than brilliant.
Turning his pointer finger in a circle I knew immediately what he wanted.
With a sigh I turned around, grabbing the hem of my white shirt, I swiftly pulled it over my head. Taking in a sharp breath as rather cold fingers touched my , and goose bumps rose as those slender fingers ran over a scar that was, according to Minjun, healing prettily.
“Hmmm.”
“What’s up with the humming?” I asked, feeling the cold fingers trailing further down, following the path of my spine.
“Just wondering when you will cave…” Minjun hummed against my neck.
“What are you talking about, crazy man?” I asked, biting on my lip as his cold fingers reached my belt.
“You know what I mean, Taec. You are lucky that Chan is helping you out from time to time, but you seriously need to sort things out with Nichkhun.” The doctor mumbled.
I could feel his breath against my right shoulder blade as he leaned closer in order to examine the healing wound better.
“With sorting out things you mean I should ask him if he finally decided on which side he wants to fight at, or taking him to my room and having some fun with him?”
I asked cheekily, hearing Minjun’s snort.
“Well, maybe you start asking him if he forgave you, and maybe, if he did, he will actually come to your room?”
“If he forgave me? Well, I guess he should ask me if I forgave him?” I asked surprised because I was definitely not at fault for his grumpy attitude.
“Oh boy. Seems like you have no idea what’s going on in his mind…”
I felt Minjun leaning back from my body, his fingers leaving my burning skin.
“I have you. Why should I analyse them when you are way better at it than me?” I asked back, grabbing my shirt and dressing again.
“Okay, you have a point there. And I know that he doesn’t really have the right to be grumpy and mad at you. But if you see it from his eyes, he does have a point…” Minjun hummed, letting himself fall back.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, turning towards him. “Are you talking about me and Chan?” I asked, my brows rose in the process. Because, if Khun was mad at me because Chansung was helping me with my needs, he sure had no reason to be angry. Chansung was simply heling me out from time to time. And he was completely faithful to Junho. If his man wouldn’t allow such a thing, we would never repeat it. But Junho was fine, as long as it wasn’t .
“No. I guess he has nothing against that. I think, that it’s more because of the reason that you saved him…” Minjun said, looking at me intently while waiting for a reaction.
“Wait what? Why should he be angry at me for saving his ?” Now I was confused.
“There could be a few reasons. Maybe he wanted to be the hero. Or maybe he is mad because it was his job killing that man and you prevented him from doing so? Oh, or maybe he feared that you could die?” Minjun listed a few things, but at the last suggestion I started laughing.
“Yeah, like he would be devastated if I died. I guess he would be glad that I’m gone. He isn’t really coping well that I have the commando and not him.” I hummed darkly. Not because I was mad or disappointed, but because I wished it would be different.
I liked Nichkhun. Really. He was a great guy. Sometimes too hot headed and not really suited to command a spaceship, but a really good comrade and fighter. And he was damn hot. And most of the time I just wanted to kiss him.
I knew that my obsession about him was getting worse by the day, and I already guessed that it was partly because he was being grumpier than ever since I’ve caught a bullet for him.
Maybe because he was avoiding me like the pest? As if he hated me for saving him. But what could I do? I just couldn’t let him die. Not him.
“Maybe he is really angry at me for interfering in his job… I mean, in the end he wasn't able to kill the assassin. Tanks to me he had more trouble than if I hadn’t stepped in…” I mumbled, looking at the iron door.
“You are probably right Minjun. I should go and ask him why the hell he is behaving like a spoiled brat.” I concluded, clapping in my hands while standing up.
“Good idea. But maybe you shouldn’t call him a spoiled brat when asking him what’s wrong.” The man chuckled and I had the feeling that he knew exactly the reason behind Khun’s behaviour.

I placed the last bag of coffee beans in our secret storage room that was located under the staircase that led from the hatchway to the rest of the ship.
After hiding the expensive goods I headed for the stairs and grunted a ‘hello’ when I noticed Wooyoung coming down.
He looked rather displeased as he passed me and greeted me back.
Honestly, right now I didn’t really care why he was being unpleased, but on the other hand Wooyoung sometimes listened to my rants and I would feel bad not at least asking what happened.
“Yo, why are you looking so sour?” I hummed, stopping in the middle of the staircase.
He stopped in his tracks and turned around, facing me with a rather surprised look. Just when I wanted to scoff at him for looking so shocked about my question he answered hurriedly, probably sensing my annoyance.
“Well, we need a new motor and captain is not really happy about that…” He said, his brows furrowing in the process.
“I can picture it.” I replied. I could understand Taecyeon’s anger about those old motors and that he wasn’t really happy to spend the soon newly earned money on one of them. On the other hand I could understand Wooyoung. It was his job repairing this ship, but if Taecyeon didn’t provide the needed material, he couldn’t do it. I knew how frustrating it was if you couldn’t finish your job.
“He said we’ll reach Heavean in a few days. I hope I can at least repair it so it will last those few days.” He sighed. Something I’ve never heard from Woo, since he was always motivated and happy.
“You’ll manage. Good luck.” I hummed and gave him an encouraging smile, something that surprised not only him but also me.
Why the hell was I being so friendly?
I swiftly turned and hurried up the stairs, fleeing from the surprised stare that was following me.

Just when I was about to turn left and into the corridor that lead to my room, I bumped into a figure that was coming the opposite direction.
Groaning as our bodies bumped against each other, I stepped back with furrowed brows.
“What the hell, Taec?” I huffed, my annoyance returning by just seeing him.
He sensed the anger in my voice and raised his hands a little as if he wanted to show me he came with good intentions.
“Sorry for running into you. I’ve just checked if you were in your room.” He explained, pointing backwards towards my room.
The flame of anger that had fired up inside me died down and curiosity settled in.
“You were looking for me? Why?” I asked, crossing my arms in front of my chest. It was unusual for Taec to come looking for me.
“Well, I wanted to talk to you.” He explained, his right hand combing through his hair and I followed his movement, mesmerized by it.
“About what?” I had the bad feeling that he wanted to talk about the temper I had been throwing the past weeks.
“Well, I wanted to apologize…” He hummed.
Now that was more than surprising, and suspicious.
“You? You want to apologize to me?” I asked, my voice rising higher pitch. This was something so new to me that I had no idea how to handle him right now.
“Well, yeah.” He admitted, ruffling his hair a little, as if he was thinking about the way he should start this conversation.
“I’ve noticed that you have been grumpier around me, and I figured that I’ve done something to anger you. And since I can’t really recall a specific thing I said to you, I figured it was about my actions.” He stated, looking rather uneasy as he started. I simply stood in front of him, arms still crossed and waiting for him to continue. My face was straight but my brain was working on high speed, processing all the things he said.
“Therefore I figured that I must have done something displeasing. And I think you are still angry because of the incident that happened in Melmay, a few weeks ago…” He ended, looking at me while waiting for a reaction.
All I could do was raise a brow. Damn, he was right about that. I’ve tried to avoid him as much as possible since that failure.
I slightly panicked as he bit his lip, looking straight in my eyes.
I was so sure that he would blurt out: I know you like me, but I’m not interested in you. You are disgusting! I would never start something with a murder, a low-life like you.
Or something similar to those words, I was sure of.
The different scenarios played in front of my eyes. I was sure that he had figured out my feelings for him.
How pathetic. A killer like me was falling in love with another man, experiencing feelings for the very first time in his life. Acting like a total fool the past weeks while ignoring him and the beating heartbeat I had while being close to him.
And he would refuse me before I could even tell him how I felt.
How uncool.
Picture me how surprised I was when he suddenly blurted:
“I’m really sorry for stealing the show. I’m sure you would’ve got him if it wasn’t for me.”
I stood there, eyes wide and simply staring at him. My brain had stopped, digesting the said words.
Was he crazy? That idiot was thinking I was mad at him because I wasn’t able to kill the man who was trying to kill me in return? Seriously?!
“You are such a motherer…” I muttered under my breath, but he seemed to have heard me since his face darkened.
“I’m apologizing and you are saying such things to me? Are you serious? I thought you’ve grown into a human since you joined this ship a year ago…” He growled. Seems like I really angered him.
But on the other hand, I was angry too.
I mean. I’ve been mad at him for weeks because he had jumped between me and my attacker, catching a bullet for me and nearly dying, and he thinks I’m just angry because I couldn’t finish my job?
He seemed to think really high of me when he figured that the life of my comrades was less important to me than the current job.
“Are you ing kidding me? You seem to have no brain, captain.” I hissed, walking past him and shoving him with my right shoulder while passing him.
He was about to say something, but I was not in the mood to kill today, therefore I slammed the door shut before he could even muster a word.
He really has no brain. I mean, here I was being worried for his health, being angry at him for doing something as stupid as throwing himself right in front of me, and he didn’t even register why I was grumpy in the first place.
I mean, his life was way more important than mine. If the bullet had hit me, it would’ve been fine, since it was meant for me. But no, he had to carelessly save me, not thinking about the consequences at all.
Damn. Just thinking about it made me angry. What would’ve I done if he had died? Knowing that someone who saved you died because of it was bad. But knowing that the man you were secretly in love with, died because you weren’t able to kill the attacker before it even came so far, was even more cruel.
He hadn’t died, and I was more than glad about it. But I was still angry. How could he do such a thing for someone like me, throwing away his life for nothing?
And now he didn’t even realise why I was mad at him.
Idiot.
