Questions

The Four Points

She knew what she saw, she knew she wasn’t dreaming. She saw a flaming arrow falling from the sky, pierce the ground and vanish completely. She wasn’t dreaming, she wasn’t having some weird hallucinations due hunger or dehydration. She wasn’t with a high fever, she wasn’t crazy and she wasn’t day dreaming. She knew exactly what she saw and when she saw it.

It made no sense. Since where did flaming arrows started falling from the sky? Since when did solid gold arrows vanish like they were dust? They couldn’t. it was completely impossible for such thing to happen. The laws of physic wouldn’t allow such thing to happen. The universe always had an explanation, they always explained why things were the way they were, and they surely would prove that she wasn’t crazy.

What she couldn’t understand at all was why in the world people around her didn’t seem to notice a single thing that was happening around them. How could they not notice it? The floor…the crack was so big! If the arrow managed to hit her or even her bike, she would be dead in seconds, and yet, people seemed not to care at all? How could that be? People around her were acting like nothing happened. She was in a stake of complete shock, until a man in his car started shouting she had to move.

She was almost hit by a car and a man started shouting at her, saying she was completely insane for stopping in the middle of the streets like that. No. She wasn’t insane. She knew what she saw. She knew what she felt.

The fear, the adrenaline rush…she felt it all. She could swear she even felt slight warmth of the flames until she moved away.  But, what was bothering her most in all of this was the million dollar question. Was she the target? Was that arrow meant for her? No, it couldn’t be. She wasn’t that important or mysterious to be a target of something so complicated.

She was probably…a misunderstanding. That arrow…no, that arrow was something else. It probably wasn’t for her own eyes. Maybe she shouldn’t have seen such a thing. For the first time in her life, she was confused and didn’t know what to do.

“Krystal? Are you listening to me?”

Hearing her name, she looked to the side. One of her employees was staring at her with a worried face, not sure of what to do, especially after seeing that her boss was staring to a blank space with an expression of confusion and anger. She was used to Krystal’s humor changes, but this was new.

Krystal on the other hand, continued using the same blank expression she wore around people and tried to ignore what happened a couple of hours ago. At least for the time being. Once she managed to be alone, she would search highs and lows for at least a small explanation for what just happened. There was an explanation; naturally, she was just too paranoid to figure out one that seemed rational.

“We need to order new things; otherwise we won’t have enough stock for the next month.”

Not even saying a word, Krystal stole the papers from the girl’s hands and started studying them. Her sales have been pretty good, nothing that surprised her. She had the most wanted beauty products out there, her clients were extremely faithful to her and when it came down to the end of the month, she would reach every single value that she promised herself that she would. She was a very good business woman and she would keep it that way.

“I’ll take care of it, don’t worry about it.”

The girl nodded and gave a small smile. She liked Krystal but at the same time she knew nothing about her. All she knew was her age and that she was the owner of the store. She knew nothing else, but maybe it was better if things kept like that. She was sure Krystal wouldn’t be too keen on the whole sharing their lives thing.

Krystal stopped looking at her papers and tried her best not to look incredibly angry. She hated when people started staring at her, she hated when people looked at her and said nothing. It was the worst thing that could happen to her. with so many things to see in the whole world, why stare at her?

“Don’t stare at me; don’t you have work to do?”

“Oh, I’m sorry!”

Before the girl left, she stopped right away and looked at Krystal once again, but this time with such a staring look. Krystal was fighting extremely hard not to roll her eyes, but it was starting to become stronger than her.

“What?”

“I forgot! A group of people came today asking for you!”

Well, that was strange. First because Krystal knew no one who would actually ask for her, especially at her work place. Second, she had no friends who would ask for her. And third and even more strange, a whole group?

“A group? Who were they?”

“They were three men and a woman. They said they needed to talk to you. Maybe they want to talk business with you?”

Krystal raised a brow bur said nothing. Saying that they wanted to discuss business with her would be impossible because no one, besides her employees, knew she was the owner of the store. So yes, it was confusing to say the least, but she couldn’t care less. It was probably a group that had nothing to do and decided to bother them.

“They left a card…”

She looked to the card that was presented to her and she couldn’t help but find it incredibly strange. If she had no idea who those people could be, she had no clue now. The card was completely white and just had a small phrase written on it.

It said “Four Points” and for all she knew, there was no company with that name. And it had no phone number, so how did those people even expect her to contact them? Was she supposed to guess right away who they were and their number?

“Just throw it away. It’s probably a mistake or bored people with nothing better to do.”

As she said it, she grabbed her papers and walked towards her office, ignoring the stare the girl was giving her. She didn’t care and she certainly wasn’t going to spend her time thinking about four strange people who were looking for her. And she was sure that they didn’t even know her actual name.

She had better things to worry about, especially that arrow. No matter how many times she replayed the whole scene in her head, it still made no sense. The arrow was going to hit her; it destroyed the floor and vanished completely. It all happened in a matter of seconds and she had no idea how it happened. It looked like magic. But magic didn’t exist, only in her books. And her books rarely showed reality, they showed universes that were made up in someone’s minds.

She wanted to ignore her questions, she wanted to forget about all of those things and continue thinking about her budgets and when she should give her employees time off, but instead, all she could think was about that horrible, strange situation.

There had to be a logic explanation. Everything had explanations, so this couldn’t be any different. This had to have a perfect way to explain itself. Maybe she was just so tired that she was imagining things.

Yes, that was probably it. She has been working nonstop for the past months; she had no time to rest or even eat properly. Yes, she was probably finally breaking down and needed to rest properly. She was thinking that she should go to the doctor and do a serious check up. Maybe she was finally breaking down and her mental health was suffering.

Passing a hand through her hair, she decided that the best thing to do was focus in her work and ignore what happened earlier for good.

“I need to sleep, that’s it.”

She looked down to her papers and didn’t know if she was going to throw all of that to the air or actually check them out and see what should be done to keep the store going perfectly the way it was.

As she continued looking at her papers, she couldn’t help but notice something. She moved her papers a bit and to say she was surprised with what she saw was the least. What in the world? How in the world that card got in there? She threw it away. When she saw it for the first time she remembers that she fold it in her hand and threw it away in the garbage. She knew she had thrown it away.

She opened to speak, to ask her employee if those four had given her another card, she noticed that this one was a little bit different from the previous one. This one had other words written besides “Four Points”. She could feel her head spinning and she wasn’t sure why.

Looking at the back of the card, she could feel curiosity take over and she had an urge inside her to know more or at least understand what was happening. This card, at least, gave her a clue of who those four people were. And all it took was a few words.

Few words that made her jump from her chair and grab her helmet. She was going to at least find out who those four people looking for her were. At least, she was going to have one question answered.

She ignored the stares she got as she left the store. She grabbed her bike and left her store at full speed. She didn’t care about anything else and she couldn’t even think properly. All she could think about was the white card with those black, bold letters.

Come to Four Points and your questions will be answered.
