so this is something ive been wanting to get off my chest and please note this is not directed at anyone because i honestly have nothing against anyone. i hate it when authors say they're 'not against it, but uncomfortable with writing lgbt characters'. if you're uncomfortable with it.... then you’re against it. and from a non-straight person’s point of view, it makes me very uncomfortable when authors say that. it does indeed make you seem homophobic, at least to me. if you’re not against something, then you’re not against it. but saying you’re uncomfortable is the equivalent of people saying “well they’re different from me so i’ll pretend they don’t exist”. i feel like i can’t be myself in this community though, and it hurts. which is why im hiding under this anonymity. i know i can’t change people’s mindsets and i know people will be like “well authors sometimes come from different backgrounds or dont know how to write that or blah blah blah.” but writing lgbt characters is in no way different from writing a straight character, especially if a person does the app right with it. i just wanted to get this off my chest and sort of give sort of give people a different perspective on the subject.
