That Jerk Kim Hanbin

Description

As a girl who loves Shakespeare, I feel obligated to protect the finesse in his words.
So when I was chosen to portray Juliet in our school's production of Romeo & Juliet, I was thrilled.
But that happiness was soon tainted with anger and disbelief when Romeo would be portrayed by none other than:

KIM HANBIN

the school's arrogant pretty boy.
He's going to ruin the play! He doesn't care about Shakespeare at all!
Why is he Romeo? Only because he's "good looking and charismatic".

I don't understand how people can like him. He's rude!

I will never forget the day I met him, and definitely will never forget how much of a jerk he can be.

That Jerk Kim Hanbin!

Foreword

As William Shakespeare had written in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, “love looks not with the eyes but with the mind”. Dear Shakespeare how I wish this was a true statement, but in modern times I believe that love looks not with the mind but with the eyes. Today, it is all about looks and I don’t understand why. Sure, he’s quite pleasing to look at but he’s not so pleasing to talk to. Who am I talking about? Well, I am talking about none other than our school’s arrogant pretty boy Kim Hanbin. This boy will be the death of me, not because he’s so charming oh he makes me swoon, I’d rather swallow my own vomit everyday than be one of those girls that admire him only because he’s good looking. I would never stoop to that level of desperation; I have morals, unlike those other girls.

The moment I met Kim Hanbin, I knew I would hate his guts. We were fourteen when we first met, and I was just sitting at a lunch table with my friends when Kim Hanbin sauntered over and took the empty seat next to me while two of his other friends stood behind him, smiling at me with such smug smiles. Everyone at our table went dead silent, staring at Hanbin as if he were an idol or prince charming. I, on the other hand, had given him such a look of disgust that even his friends seemed offended. Hanbin did not mind my disgust as he still carried on with his intentions,

“I’m sorry, I don’t think we have met before,” he smirked, “I’m Kim Hanbin.”

“I know who you are,” I sighed, looking back to my cup of soda, playing with my straw. “We’ve never met, but we’ve been going to school together.”

“Well, I just wanted to ask you,” he let out a slight chuckle, looking away for a second before looking back at me with another sly smile. “Have you ever kissed a bunny between the ears?”

What kind of question was this? I looked at him and furrowed my eyebrows, “No.”

Hanbin proceeded to stand up and turned his whole body towards me before sticking his hands in his pants pockets and pulling them inside out, “Would you like to?”

It took me two seconds to understand what he meant, and only one millisecond to cover him in my ice cold cola and slam my cup back on the table after standing up and glaring him with absolute disdain. The whole lunchroom became silent and everyone looked our way, trying to muffle their laughter after seeing a drenched Kim Hanbin.

“You had the nerve to say that? You’re disgusting,” I scoffed, “I don’t understand how girls like you.”

His frozen and blank stare said everything for him. He was shocked and utterly upset of what I did. His lips twitched and his jaw was clenched. He looked like he was going to explode with rage. I had just embarrassed him and drenched his uniform with a sticky soft drink. But I’m the one who was just inappropriately hit on; I’m the only one with the right to be upset.

I looked behind him and looked at his two friends, whom I remember to be Jiwon and Junhoe. I smiled mockingly at them before looking at Hanbin once again, sauntering off leaving them shocked by the situation.

That day, I knew how much of a bastard Kim Hanbin can be. Yet even after that day, people still looked at him as if he were a priceless painting hanging in a museum. He walked into the school building as if nothing embarrassing had ever happened to him. But I knew he did not forget, because each time he saw me he looked at me as if I were the scum between his toes. If he thought he was being cute, then there is something seriously wrong with this boy and it needs to be fixed immediately.

If only someone could actually talk some sense into that boy. I would suggest my hero of literature William Shakespeare for the job, but I don’t think Kim Hanbin is smart enough to even read Shakespeare’s work, let alone understand what he is trying to get across.
