oh bother

"Youngjae!"

Is the first person Jung Daehyun seeks in a time of crisis because what he's about to do next is considered a life and death decision and Youngjae's opinions are always groundbreaking at times like this anyway. Daehyun doesn't know how he's so blessed to be with such a being, he must be a miracle and miracles do happen, mind you.

"What?" His boyfriend of nearly two months says, fringing disinterest, but Daehyun has learned to translate it to what do you want this time?ー which is pretty accurate given the situation.

"Do you think Santa Claus would like vanilla flavored cookies or chocolate?" Daehyun asks with a serious facade, not missing the way Youngjae side-eyes him. He thinks Daehyun is being ridiculous right now and that may or may not have something to do with the holidays or the fact that the two will be on their way to Yongguk and Himchan's house very soon after their last minute Christmas Eve grocery shoppingー courtesy of Kim Himchan. It would also include the kids and as much as Daehyun would love to spend his first Christmas alone with his boyfriend, he'd be damn to miss an opportunity to pay hisーtheir god children Jongup and Junhong, a visit. Considering Kim Himchan's invitations are highly exclusive and valid dates sell out very quickly.

"I thought he eats chocolate-chip." Youngjae finally answers after a long internal debate.

He must be concerned about the part where Daehyun believes Santa Claus is real and will come raining down their chimney on Christmas Day with billions of presents from his sled, which is all true. Daehyun defends in his head to no one in particular and although he has indeed made it his sole mission this year to meet Santa Claus and present him to Jongup and Junhong for the holidays, that doesn't mean he's crazy for doing so okay. He's sure the guy could spare a few minutes after traveling around the world at nightー timezone differences should help him greatly and if anything, Daehyun would like a selfie or two if he could.

"You're right! What was I thinking?" He lays a quick kiss on his boyfriend's cheek, who ignores him for the most part, but gladly accepts the display of affection. "Let's go buy some chocolate chips." He says calmly, throwing the other flavors aside and starts singing along to the Christmas songs.

"You better watch out, you better cry not cause I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is com-ing, to town~."

It annoys Youngjae to bits whenever he does that, but he also knows his boyfriend secretly doesn't mind because really, it's everywhere around this time of the year and knowing that he prefers it from Daehyun makes it all the more satisfying. Even though Daehyun can see Youngjae rubbing his forehead from the corner of his eyes, he's certain the holiday spirit will eventually rub off him.

"Youngjae." His boyfriend turns with mild interest, puffing his cheeks and Daehyun has the urge to kiss him full on the lips. However, the two of them haven't reached that point of their relationship yet and Daehyun really does not want to scare off his boyfriend for moving too fast. Especially when they've been taking things slow and giving quick pecks here and there. It really cute, seriously, but there are just times when Daehyun wants to do more for Youngjae and show him how much the other means to him in their short extended relationship.

Daehyun grins sheepishly and plants a kiss instead on those fluffy cheeks before opening his mouth.

"Do you think he'll like soy milk or whole milk?"

He gets a slap on the arm for that in return.

--

"We're here!" Daehyun announces after taking the first step inside of Yongguk and Himchan's lovely home. A cheer and a squeal of children answers him as he readily raises the awaiting presents above his head, right before the awe-struck chaos he was sure would ensue if he allowed them anywhere below his waist.

"Daehyunnie hyung!" Jongup shouts the moment he sets his eyes on his god father. He's wearing his favorite Olaf pajamas that Daehyun got for his birthday. It always warms Daehyun's heart when someone uses his gifts as he breaks into a smile immediately and picks up the toddler with one arm while the other with presents.

"Hun hun!" Comes the second set of squeals as Junhong clumsily dashes into the room and bumps against Daehyun's legs before redirecting himself towards Youngjae, who welcomes him with open arms.

"Hey hey, be careful, Junhong!" Himchan comes in from behind with a scowl and waving a spatula, but nonetheless greets the couple and leads them in. He's already got Christmas songs on blast, a five foot decorated Christmas tree and presents scattered all over the living room that Daehyun has to watch where he steps or he just might join those presents.

"Where's Yongguk hyung?" Youngjae asks, hoisting Junhong up as the little guy wriggle his feet excitedly. Youngjae is great with kids and kids are great with Youngjae, Daehyun decides.

"Bbang's sick." Himchan answers quietly, which is a little odd even for him because he's always filled with blunt remarks and Daehyun can't comprehend what's gotten into him. So he asks about it out loud anyway.

"With what? Is he constipated?" He jokes, playfully nuzzling his face to Jongup's tummy, causing the toddler to giggle and attempt to push Daehyun's face away. He's just so cute and Daehyun has the urge to take him home with him, but he knows Himchan will come running after him before he even takes a step out the doorー or more precisely, saw off his legs for even attempting to take Jongup away from him.

"He has a cold." He states blatantly and just on cue, the said sick man walks into the living room in fits of coughs, a thermometer hanging from his mouth and a duvet blanket draped over his shoulders.

"G-g-good a-a-ah- choo!" Yongguk unceremoniously sneezes, his children echoing his behavior with large gestures. It's like they're playing telephone or something and the last person has to guess what the first person saidー well in this case, sneezed.

"Who told you to get out of bed, mister." Himchan scolds, walking up to Yongguk and ensuring that he's not pointing in the children's general direction. Considering that's all he needs to ruin his dayー with all the sick people and allー before the holidays.

Unmoving, Yongguk is reluctant to turn back and it takes a bit of Himchan threatening to poison his food and confiscate Tigger until he moves. He seems sour about missing the joy of the holidays and Daehyun understands this well because who would want to miss seeing Santa Claus when he only appears once a year?

"So if you two don't mind," Himchan emerges after settling Yongguk back to bed, "can you watch the kids while I prepare dinner? Also that Bbang stays in bed?" He says this casually, albeit nervous and shifty on the legs, but that's enough for Daehyun to decide on what he should say.

"Of course!" Daehyun agrees without hesitation, even though he hasn't consulted Youngjae about it, he believes the other man wouldn't mind. They haven't been inside that long and there's already a heavy weight of responsibilities thrown upon them. Not to mention food is going to be prepared and Daehyun is readily available to sacrifice himself for high quality prepared good food. And did he already mention food?

"Thank god." Himchan exclaims, startling the kids as he rushes to the kitchen to fixーwhatever he's fixing. Daehyun just knows it's food.

Putting Jongup down, Daehyun turns to his boyfriend, who then takes another quiet moment to set Junhong on the couch before relieving a sigh.

"It's fine. We're here anyway." Youngjae nods in agreement to the unspoken question, biting his lower lipsー which means he's a bit unsure of what he's doing, Daehyun notes. He empties one hand of the presents he's been holding onto and wraps his arms around his boyfriend, nuzzling his face to Youngjae's neck.

"If you don't want to stay, I can take you home." He offers, a bit disappointed and sad that his boyfriend won't be around to witness Santa Claus in the flesh. Though, he thinks it's mostly just because he won't be able to spend much time with Youngjae like they had initially planned for the holidays.

Youngjae shakes his head quickly. "No, it's okay. I can stay." He assures. "We said we would spend the holidays together and it doesn't matter if we're alone because that means we'll just celebrate Christmas with everyone, right?"

Daehyun smiles at that, detaching himself from Youngjae's nape and pulls their forehead together, their nose touching each other. He stares down at Youngjae's lips, much more than he needs to, and suddenly his mouth feels so dry, he his lips unconsciously.

"Ew. Get a room." The couple separates quickly and are met with Himchan carrying Junhong and pushing him into Youngjae's arms. "There's children in the room and you two are already all over each other. Sheesh, and here I thought I exposed them to too many indecent things."

"N-no, we're not!" Youngjae defends hurriedly, flustered as he adjusts Junhong in his arms.

It's one thing to catch them in the act and another to keep saying these out loud with children in the room. But what bothers Daehyun the most is that no oneー and he means no one makes Youngjae blush like that and gets away with it. That is suppose to be him dammit!

So with all urges to tell Himchan off at bay, Daehyun challenges the other man and confidently blurts out.

"Do you have a room available for us?" And watches the way Himchan's face distort in disgust because really, really. The look on his face is so hilarious and Daehyun believes it's times like these that it's great he doesn't have a filter. Even though it makes Youngjae blush even harder, Daehyun is proud of his outstanding results and pulls both Youngjae and Junhong into a hug.

"No, nope. Definitely not." Himchan recovers from his astonishment and stomps away with finality. Both Daehyun and Youngjae start laughing, the kids following suite even though they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

"Appa Chan mad." Jongup suddenly points out while Daehyun takes this as his cue to kneel down in front of the toddler.

"Hmm, yeah. But after he cooks, he'll be happy again." He concludes, ruffling Jongup's hair and causing the toddler to giggle uncontrollably whilst attempting to pull Daehyun's hand away with his little ones. It so much fun to tease Jongup and watch him get flustered every time.

"Does uh," Jongup looks down, as if he's trying to think extremely hard on what to say. It sort of reminds Daehyun of Winnie the Pooh, always think think think and chuckles when he remembers his costume for Halloween like it was yesterday.

"Daehyunnie hyung likes Youngjae hyung like Appa Guk like Appa Chan?" Daehyun laughs at the many 'likes' Jongup adds without realizing how funny it sounds and nods excitedly. "Yes, Daehyunnie hyung likes Youngjae hyung like Appa Guk like Appa Chan." He imitates and Jongup just looks at him like he said something amazing even though Daehyun basically stole the words out of Jongup's mouth.

This seems to excite Jongup and he starts asking his billion and one questions, which pretty much stops short after five questions. He laughs when Jongup is still hung onto the 'like' questions.

"Daehyunnie hyung has a name for Youngjae hyung like Appa Chan? Appa Chan say 'Bang!'" And proceeds to make a large gesture with his arms as he imitates an explosion along with the multiple sounds of airplanes and other things crashing. Daehyun chuckles at the display and squishes his god child's cheeks because he's just so adorable.

"Hmm, I don't know. Let's go ask Youngjae hyung." He wiggles his eyebrows like he doesn't knowー but truthfully, he really doesn't know and pretends to know because he's just as curious as Jongup about the nicknames Youngjae comes up for him. Especially in that brain of his since he's always so cautious about everything, Daehyun wouldn't be surprised if he has at least five names for him.

"Youngjae!" He catches his boyfriend's attention immediately, including Junhong, who looks at them with confusion written all over his face.

"Do you have a nickname for me?" He busts out the question instantly and watches Youngjae with Jongup by his side in anticipation.

Gradually, Youngjae takes his time to think about the question and glances at his boyfriend sometimes. The look only makes Daehyun more curious as the silent pause prolongs the awaited answer, that is, until Youngjae opens his mouth and speaks.

"This guy."

"This guy?"

Daehyun quirks his eyebrows and repeats, "this guy," directing it back to Youngjae and laughs obnoxiously at his lame joke. "Am I that lame that I don't even get a couple name? This guy." He spats back and the children echoes back his words, and he's sure somewhere mixed in there Jongup mentions that Appa Chan says that a lot too.

"Yeah, you're just this guy." Youngjae muses after the room quiets again and Daehyun has the urge to pinch his boyfriend's cheeks until they're redー or at least, when he gets a better nickname than that. He's probably holding back because he knows the children are just going to copy him and it'll eventually lead back to Himchan, which is understandable.

But still, Daehyun doesn't want to be called 'this guy' by the children either. So instead he drops his sulking for his god children's attention, "What kind of nickname do you think I should give to Youngjae hyung?" And snickers once he spots Youngjae's eyes growing very slightly from the corner of his eyes.

"Baby!" Jongup announces out loud, squishing his own cheeks, his lips juts out like he's trying to form a kiss.

"Be beh." Junhong mimics Jongup and puts his hands onto his own cheeks, blinking cutely and without any knowledge of what they're doing. Daehyun feels like he's getting a double killing of cuteness the longer he hangs around with these two.

"Baby." Daehyun teases with the new nickname in utmost amusement, earning him a judgmental stare from his boyfriend.

"Hunny!" Junhong shouts out this time while Jongup still argues that he likes 'baby' better as they both chide Daehyun to use their suggested nickname instead. It gets really chaotic after that and Daehyun can't help but laugh at how monstrous these two can be with their tiny little bodies. It really packs a punch, he muses and motions for all of their attention.

"Okay, you two. Let's make some stockings before Santa Claus comes!" He says, all arguments quickly forgotten as the children cheered "Santa Santa!"

They gather around the fire place, doodling onto the socks that Himchan bought over and snacking on some freshly baked cookies, Daehyun utters a moan and sheds a few tears at the wondrous taste. He feels extremely blessed right now.

"Did you finish your stocking? I'm going to hang them up now, baby." Daehyun declares and notices how Youngjae scowls and then softens ever so slightly once his eyes lands on Jongup siting right next to him. Though, Daehyun knows the nickname still annoys Youngjae, he can't help but use it at every given opportunity when they're in front of the children and adults shouldn't be violent near themー or anywhere, mind you.

"Or you can give me your stockings, baby," Daehyun drops suggestively. "You know, those black laceyー " Youngjae shoves him aside this time, quietly assisting Junhong with his stocking and spelling out the name of his god son. "Do you mean your black laces?" He returns and Daehyun covers his chest in mock hurt.

"Ouch, that hurts, Jae." He's tried every lovey-dovey nickname in the book and this one seems to offend Youngjae the leastー if not, make him very fond of it.

Without commenting about his boyfriend's behavior, Youngjae simply rolls his eyes and continues his focus on making Junhong's stocking look better than Daehyun's.

It's the evening when all the stockings are hung around the chimney and the children are taking their nap. The day seems to take a lot of energy out of them, but that's alright because now, Daehyun can spend a couple of hours with his boyfriend.

"Can you grab some blankets?" Youngjae whispers lowly, caressing Junhong's head so it doesn't lop to the side. "I think they're upstairs."

With all jokes aside, Daehyun puts Jongup next to Youngjae and heads upstairs, but not without secretly snapping a photo on his phone. What Youngjae does not know will not hurt him, he grins.

He searched through the rooms quietly until he finds what he's looking for with ease, the image of Youngjae and the kids still floating through his thoughts as he thinks when should he and Youngjae have kidsー if they're still together, that is. Even though he doesn't see them separating anytime soon, but it's justーwhat if they don't stay together anymore?

Shaking his head, Daehyun brushes away the thought. He should be thinking about Santa Claus and how he'll be coming any minute now. Slowly, he cheers up at the thought and hears hurried footsteps making their way up the stairs.

A frantic Himchan comes walking in the room and the next thing Daehyun knows he's being dragged down the stairs and into the kitchen, plenty of food everywhere as he stares and drools and stares some more. He's convinced that he's seen the light and is sent to heaven in a manner of unexpected seconds.

"Did you hear me?" Himchan calls out and Daehyun snaps out of his daze, simply standing there because there is just so much food.

"Yes, hyung." He blurts out automatically and Himchan just sighs before grabbing Daehyun by the ear and points at the pot of soup, which smells really good and dazzling andー

"Watch the soup. Make sure the water doesn't dry off and if it does lower the heat, alright?"

Himchan shuffled through the cabinets one last time before proceeding to face Daehyun with the last of his instructions.

"You got that? I'm leaving you in charge, okay?"

"You can count on me." Daehyun says with confidence and that just makes Himchan look at him warilyー if not more.

"Repeat what I just said." His friend challenges, doubt evident at the edge of his voice. Daehyun seriously doesn't know what's so hard about this.

"Watch the pot. If it starts to bubble, lower the flame." He recited perfectly while Himchan stares at the pot, an internal conflict marring his expression when he turns back to Daehyun and lets out a long sigh.

"I really wish I didn't have to leave you guys here to watch the kids and the food, but dammit, I can't finish the soup without the chicken and Jonguppie won't drink the soup without the chicken." He shuts the lid over the pot and regrettably heads towards the front door.

"Don't worry about it, hyung." Daehyun assures, following after him. "I'm a better cook than Youngjae, remember?" He says that fondly because if he were to make any implication otherwise in front of his boyfriend's face, he'd be smacked into the next century and possibly castrated for good measureー and knowing Youngjae anything is possible.

Without looking back Himchan begrudgingly shuts the door behind him, but not before reminding Daehyun if he comes back with his house on fire, he's going to sue his , denounce him as Jongup's God father and personally kick him in the crotch.

Daehyun winces at the last part, but waves goodbye to Himchan anyway despite having the door slam shut an inch away from his face. Phew.

Once he's sure Himchan won't come barging back as Frosty the Snowman, Daehyun makes his way to the kitchen and checks the food on the stove because yes, food is relevant, and having a taste of it behind Himchan's back feels good too. He does it dutifully with a sip or two and figures it could use a bit more heat.

Just as he turns it up, the switch to the stove breaks off, igniting the fire until it reaches near the top of the pot and the soup begins to sizzle uncontrollably with hot overflowing bubbles. There are many signals going off in Daehyun's head and he thinks he should do something rationally as he questions himself what would Himchan do in this sort of situation?

The fire alarm begins to go off and with all thoughts instinctively thrown aside, Jung Daehyun does what he always does in these type of frantic situations.

"YOUNGJAE HELP!! THE KITCHEN'S ON FIRE!!"

--

Daehyun believes everything Youngjae touches is a miracleー and he continues to believe so when Youngjae puts out the fire and screws the broken switch back onto the stove.

"How in the world did you break this off? No, scratch thatー how did you burn the food after watching it for only a minute?" Youngjae asks for the umpteenth time in the past hour as Daehyun carries a drowsy Junhong in his arms because, honestly, it's the only barrier he has to protect him from his boyfriend's urge to strangle him. Not that Daehyun doesn't appreciate Youngjae's heroic effort to save the kitchen and the food, he just prefers breathing and living.

"I'm sorry, Jae." He mutters lowly, like a kid that just got his hand slapped for trying to sneak a cookie out of the cookie jar.

"I didn't want it to turn cold." It's all he has to say, considering Youngjae already knows his love for food and any excuses beyond that will beー well, excuses.

"I don't think Santa Claus would like burnt soup anyway." Daehyun says after a moment later, "what about turkey? Do you think he'll stay longer if we make turkey?" Turkey sounds good right now and just thinking about it makes him hungry.

When he doesn't get an answer, Daehyun turns to his boyfriend, "Youngjae?"

That seems to snap him out of his thoughts and he stares back at Daehyun. He's been doing this a lot lately and Daehyun isn't sure if that's a really a good thing or not.

Oddly, something has been on Youngjae's mind and he debates whether to say this as he stares hard at Daehyun for more than two minutes. Not that Daehyun minds having his boyfriend looking at him or checking him outー as he likes to thinkー Youngjae is just doing the staring thing again and Daehyun can't really guess what he wants to say.

Finally after a long sigh, Youngjae takes Junhong from Daehyun's arms and puts him into his crib near the Christmas tree.

"Daehyun." Youngjae sits him down and hesitantly comments. "Santa Claus isn't real."

Just like that the room becomes still and quiet except for the children's soft snores, to which Daehyun is grateful for, but that does not change what came out of Youngjae's mouth and into his ears. His shoulders slump instinctively and a frown forms on his face as his bottom lips jitters with disbelief, he sniffs loudly.

"W-what are you talking about? Stop jokingー " Tears welled up quickly in Daehyun's eyes and he has the urge to scream and throw tantrums, but that wouldn't look manly and holiday spirit-y nor will Santa Claus come because he doesn't come to crying children and because becauseー

He's not real.

With that, Daehyun opts for the door and runs through the snow dramatically like a madman. He curses when he realizes just how cold it is, regretting his decision to run outside without his jacket and boots. His slippers are already soaked and he screams nonsensical words for ten minutes until a blanket is thrown over his head.

"Daehyun, come back inside." Youngjae calls, hugging Daehyun tightly so the blanket doesn't fall off. "It's cold. C'mon." He tugs onto the other man, but Daehyun feels like his feet are frozen and does not move at all.

He cries and he cries so badー he just wants to bury his head in the snow and never come out to the reality of his boyfriend's words because it's just not true. It can't be.

After countless sneezes and nonstop teeth chattering, Daehyun relents and goes inside with Youngjae still at his side. He's being an idiotー he can hear it in Youngjae's voice, but Daehyun can't help but care about Santa Claus's existence. How can he explain where the presents came from now? Or the disappearance of the cookies? What about the miracles that happen?

Do they even happen?

He has absolutely no idea as he rushes back inside the house and is led to the bathroom and then the tub. He remembers hot and warm water pouring in, Youngjae seldom pulling his clothes off and hurrying out the door the next minute.

He takes the opportunity to curl himself and sniffs, tears still falling down his cheeks even when Youngjae comes back apologizing and cleaning his face with a towel. Daehyun appreciates the gesture, he really does. But it doesn't mend the hurt he feels after knowing all those years of believing miracles do happen and there's someone out in the world whose selfless were not really real at all.

Even when Youngjae is kissing him all over his face, Daehyun cries louder and he can't stop because his damn tears won't stop coming out.

So he just sits there, praying he'll forget what happened as his boyfriend comforts him for the rest of the evening.

--

Himchan comes home to a very quiet couple sitting far apart from each other, his kitchen smelling like burnt toast, and mild coughs in the background. His kids are having an early supper before he ushers them into bed so Santa Claus can do his work and give them presents.

Daehyun begins sniffing loudly when Himchan's out of sight, causing Youngjae to rush over to him and comfort him until he's snuggled closely to Youngjae's sweater. It warms Daehyun that Youngjae is trying to help him feel better despite being the bearer of bad news. He knows he's trying, just like how he serves him an extra slice of meat and adds more food onto his plate. But he can also tell Youngjae isn't certain how to handle thingsーespecially an emotional wreck like Daehyun.

The two end up watching Christmas shows for a couple of hours and Daehyun feels like he's about to break into tears again whenever Santa Claus is mentioned. Sometimes they would see Yongguk stop by for medicine and then get scolded again by Himchan to go back to bed. It never gets old.

By the time it's an hour before Christmas, Himchan decides to go to bed because he's certain there's going to be a mess in the morning when the kids wake up, which leaves Daehyun and Youngjae still siting on the couch.

They haven't talked all night and Daehyun doesn't know if he's ready to after what happened. So he just sits there and let time fly, his mood still low as he allows the truth to sink in that Santa won't be coming to see them tonight.

When the time hits midnight, the alarm goes off for a few seconds and both Daehyun and Youngjae are finishing the last Christmas show for the night. It draws upon them that it's finally here. It's finally Christmas and they should be doing something to celebrate rather than stay on the couch.

"Hey." Youngjae is the first to break the silence, rising from his seat to the Christmas tree. He comes back with a present between his small hands and Daehyun just wants to hold them and keep them warm forever. Even if he's being an idiot right now and giving his boyfriend a hard time, he should at least try to smile for the holiday. He's been waiting for it to come and now that it's here, he should be happy.

He hands the gift to Daehyun and he just looks at it stupidly because he wasn't exactly expecting anything from Youngjae other than spending time with him.

"Go on, open it." Youngjae assures, encouraging his boyfriend, who then proceeds to unwraps the gift and looks at it, dumbfounded.

It's a jar of honey with a label For my sweet Hyunny. Daehyun must be smiling because suddenly his cheeks hurts so bad and there is something stuck in his eyes, he's not sure if they're tears or not, and if they areー he's definitely not going to see Santa Claus tonight.

"I-I'm sorry." Youngjae mutters abruptly, not really looking at Daehyun. "I shouldn't have said that. I though you knew and you just wanted to believe it's true for the kids, H-Hyunny." He finishes sincerely, even though he's not really sure what to do next. He looks so cute and Jung Daehyun cannot resist cute.

It also take Daehyun a moment to process the fact that Youngjae has given him a new nickname and is using the combination of 'honey' with his name 'hyun.'

This is not fair.

This is utterly not fair. Yoo Youngjae is not being fair. He's apologizing after breaking Daehyun's antagonizing resolve and surprisingly Daehyun can't stay disappointed for that either. But still.

"Why do you have to make so much sense?" He whispers and Youngjae looks up at him with glassy eyes and those adorable pink cheeks. Daehyun tries not to succumb very easily, but it's already too late and he pulls his boyfriend into a hug.

"I'm sorry for giving you a hard time." He mumbles against Youngjae's neck. "It's our first Christmas and I shouldn't be like this." A sniff andー oh no, he's crying again.

Pulling away, Daehyun quickly looks for his gift under the tree and hands it to Youngjae. "Here. Uh, Merry Christmas." He adds as an afterthought, causing Youngjae to laugh and smile in return. "Thank you."

He opens the box and Daehyun his lips in anticipation because he's not sure how Youngjae would react to receiving such a gift, especially something that means a lot to him.

Once he finished unwrapping it, Youngjae stares at the teddy bear wearing an army suit in all its glory, twisting and turning it before he decides he's not going to get an answer out of it any time soon. He turns to his boyfriend expectantly and Daehyun explains with a smile.

"I- I've had that teddy bear for years and I know it's not something brand new but." He pauses, his lips again. "But it really means a lot to me and I want you to have it because..." He stumbles on his words, taking a deep breath as a chill run through his spine because he really means what he's about to say next, he cajoles.

"Because you mean a lot to me too and I l-like you." He breathes.

Time seem to have stilled for that one moment and the couple stare at each other's face. They have been doing so much staring tonight, Daehyun thinks he won't ever forget how Youngjae looks with tears falling from his eyes even if he wants to.

"Daehyun." Youngjae says slowly and pulls Daehyun by the shoulder and into a hug. Everything feels so warm and fluffy, Daehyun believes it's mostly the cotton polyester sweater his boyfriend is wearing, but he also the way Youngjae's lips suddenly meets his in a chaste kiss.

Taken aback, it literally surprises Daehyun since he had initiated most of the kisses and to see Youngjae making a jump into their relationship is very endearing. Carefully, he cups his boyfriend's soft cheek and presses their lips closer, unmoving but sweet.

They stay like that for a few uninterrupted minutes, enjoying each other's touches until they separate to take the view of their flushed face. Daehyun figures his face must be just as red as Youngjae's and teary-eyed with his cheeks hurting so much. He still believes Youngjae is a blessing and a miracleー especially what Youngjae says next.

"I really like you too."

Just then, the sound of something hitting the roof catches their attention and they both look at each other before setting their eyes on the ceiling. It sounds oddly like footsteps leading to the fireplace and the thought of who might be up there leaves Daehyun's eyes twinkling with excitement.

It's can't be.

As if the world had heard Daehyun's wish and decided to give him the present of a lifetime, Daehyun stands up quickly with his phone at hand. All hope replenished, Daehyun does what he always does in such spectacular moments like this and shouts.

"It's Santa Clー !"

He trips over his present, knocking over a table filled with cookies and milk and spilling it all over Youngjae's pants.

Youngjae covers his face at the embarrassment that is his boyfriend.
