Miloh and Minhyuk had been online friends for over a year, until one day the boy disappeared into thin air without a warning or explanation.
Miloh, who had secretly been in love with the boy she had never met, stubbornly waited for him. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months.
Until everything changed one day.

Foreword
A young girl got home from work and slightly struggled to use only her toes to slide out of her sneakers before she dragged her tired feet along the cold floors of the cheap apartment she called home. She plopped down in front of her computer and stared at the glowing screen, not moving an inch for a good half an hour. This used to be the happiest time of her day, she’d almost run home and smash the elevator button in hopes that it would come faster to only get in front of her computer faster. And every time, he’d be there. On the other side of the same damn glowing screen. The moment she’d log on, she’d have a Skype call ringing for her to pick up and she couldn’t even do anything else before she greeted her favorite person in the world.

While Miloh was slurping on her noodles and secretly admiring the boy’s flawless features while making a fool out of herself, the two had a heated arguement about different types of personalities and she was so happy to be able to talk to someone like this without seeming offensive or like she was forcing her opinion on them. Minhyuk was nothing like anyone she had ever met.
„Tough cookie, I like you.“ The boy said with a soft smile, making Miloh almost choke on the food. Minhyuk probably had no idea how he made her heart race. It were things like this, small things that Minhyuk said that lifted her up from the deepest of lows and effortlessly carried her through darker days. Miloh only smiled and forced herself to not imagine things too much. He didn’t mean it like that, did he?
The lack of air in Miloh’s brain made her gasp for oxygen and made her jolt out of her thoughts. He looked around in the now dark room, even the computer screen had turned itself off. She had no idea how much time had passed but these days it happened often. Several times a day. She didn’t mind though, it only made the days feel shorter and brought her closer to tomorrow. Every day she repeated to herself that tomorrow is the day when she’ll get herself together.

„Hyukkie, what have you been up to today?“ Miloh asked, perhaps a little distracted by the red nail polish she was trying to distribute neatly on her fingernail. Little did she know that he was watching her all this time, an amused smile playing on his lips. „You’re one of the rare individuals whom I don’t cringe at when you call me Hyukkie actually.“ The boy said with a soft chuckle and upon hearing these words, Miloh lost interest in her nails and turned her head to look into his eyes. She wished that there weren’t pixels separating them and she wished that he could stare right back.
„What do you think, how long will we be friends?“ Miloh carefully asked a while later while blowing at her nails as they dried. She didn’t need to look at him, simply hearing him say the following words was more than good enough for her.
„Never ever, if I had the chance, would I stop being in touch with you.“
Miloh had no idea how and when she got to her bed but that’s where she woke up. It was past 1AM and she was not tired nor awake. Like a zombie, she dragged her numb body to the computer and hovered her fingers above the keys for a while before typing something. She stared at it for almost 5 minutes before hitting enter.
Miloh [24.10.2015 01:12]: You could have told me you were going somewhere... tell me next time, okay?
It had been a month since Minhyuk had said a word, appeared online anywhere or left any other sign of presence. He disappeared into nothing after wishing her a good night one day, during a perfectly normal conversation like any other they had. It made Miloh feel hopeless and pathetic. Minhyuk lived across the world after all, he was a boy she had never met in real life and whatever she thought she had with him might have all been her imagination. But still, every day, she'd hope that Minhyuk would come back. Her Hyukkie. Her favorite person in the world.
