Everlasting Family

The dorm was silent as the four figures who lived within had not dared stand up. They didn’t dare accept, just for another second, that the day had finally come. If they had, their hearts would have broken into a million pieces all over again. So there they all lay, in their beds, staring at the ceiling, wondering who would dare stand up first.

It wasn’t long until the front door creaked open, allowing five guys to quietly walk in, breakfast and other supplies in hand. The youngest of them all decided that he had had enough and walked out of his bedroom, coming face to face with the five men that had just walked in. “You guys came,” he whispered, forcing out a smile. The rest smiled back and he beckoned them to follow him.

“You all right Kyuhyun,” the leader asked, worried about the younger’s health. He had been overworking these past couple of days just to make sure that he had no schedule the morning of his hyung’s departure.

“I’m fine,” he choked out. “I just wish he didn’t have to go.”

“It’s his duty,” the typical drama queen had explained, sounding way more mature than usual. “Plus, it’s only twenty one months. We can fight through it together.”

The maknae forced a smile as he settled on knocking at the other two members’ bedrooms. They abruptly opened their door and walked out, as if they had been waiting all along. Gripping each other’s hands, they came upon the door of the man who would be leaving them. Kyuhyun took a deep breath before slowly opening the door and walking in, the rest waiting outside to give the two some space.

“Hyung, you awake yet,” he whispered in the darkness as he walked towards the figure under the sheet.

There was a moment of silence.

“Who wouldn’t be awake at this time,” the elder said, but didn’t dare to sit up.

Kyuhyun walked to the side of the bed and took a seat. Without another word, he gripped his hand and held it tight, as if he was trying to convince him of something. “Eunhyuk-ah,” Kyuhyun whispered. “You’ll be alright, won’t you? You promise you’ll be safe, right?”

Eunhyuk kept his eyes closed knowing that, if he opened them, tears would burst out again. “Can’t we just pretend that I’m not leaving just a little longer,” he begged, gripping Kyuhyun’s hands tighter.

“It’s better to face it now than later hyung,” he said, gently rubbing his hands. “Don’t worry, we’ll be waiting right here for you. So, just promise me that you’ll be okay, okay?”

Eunhyuk took a deep breath before sitting up, still refusing to open his eyes. “I know you guys will be here when you come back. But that doesn’t stop it from hurting. The idea of being completely away from you guys for two years and not seeing my most precious ELFs breaks my heart a little bit.”

“The same goes for us Hyuk,” Kyuhyun said as he took his other hand to lightly brush the tears that had escape from Eunhyuk’s closed eyes. “But, we’ll fight through it.”

“We promise you that you will fight through it,” the leader interrupted, allowing the rest of the members into the room.

At the sound of his voice, Eunhyuk’s eyes snapped open and he felt his heart break all over again. The other members had really come. They had come to be there for his last morning at home and it broke him all over again that these were the only times they were only actually ever together. “Leeteuk hyung,” Eunhyuk choked out. “When I come back, can we have more days like these?”

The members’ breathes caught and their hearts broke in unison. They agreed silently, knowing that it had been harder and harder to be together lately. They made a silent vow that when all the members were finally together in three years, they have to try to go back to the days when they were all nearly stuck together like glue. “Of course,” Leeteuk said. “We’ll get strawberry ice-cream every week if that’s what it takes.”

A smile grew on Eunhyuk’s face and grew even more when Donghae ran and jumped on his bed with that cheeky little grin of his. “Yah, Eunhyuk,” Donghae teased, touching his short hair. “Stop being sad. I should be the sad one. I have to live without you for twenty one months and you know how incapable I am. You can be rest assured that you’re safe and all, but I have to live with myself.”

“You big dork,” Enhyuk said, squishing the other’s face. “Stop stealing my spotlight. You can have your own spotlight in two days.”

Donghae’s smile grew even wider and he leaned in against Eunhyuk’s warm hands. “Just promise me you’ll be safe anchovy,” he whispered.

“I promise,” he whispered, tapping the other’s nose gently.

“Now stop acting like love birds,” Heechul yelled out, throwing a pillow their way, which ended up hitting Kyuhyun instead.

In a slight fit of anger, Kyuhyun picked up another pillow and threw it his way. However, with his luck, it ended up hitting Yesung flat in the face. And that was how their morning started and ended, with a pillow fight. Eunhyuk couldn’t help but smile throughout the whole scene. He loved every minute of it.

So as he stood there, Kangin and Leeteuk by his side, waving good bye at the other members, he couldn’t help but think that these next twenty one months should be a breeze.

Just as long as, of course, he had these idiotic guys waiting for him on the other side.

For he knew that he had an everlasting family.

^^^^^^^^^^

A/N: Just a short little drabble for you guys in honor of Eunhyuk’s leave for the army. He’s been in duty for about two hours. We just have how many more left. Fighting!

It’s strange, as this is my first send off. I wasn’t completely aware of Sungmin’s and Shindong’s leave, so it’s a weird feeling that this is breaking my heart. The idea that they’re not all together in one place is a bit sad to me.

As for you Eunhyuk, we promise that we won’t stray and that we will wait for Super Junior to come back better than ever and, more importantly, all together. We’ll miss you! Please stay safe!

Chapter 1: This was so cute yet heartbreaking that I haven't decided wether to cry or smile.
I'm still stuck on that stage where you can't form a coherent thought nor really accept what is happening about the enlistment matter, so I'll refrain myself from doing so.
Thank you for sharing this; let's wait for our dalnim to come home:)
