The Jewel and the forgotten promise *edited*

Opposites Attract

A/N: ANOTHER recently edited chapter. Yay!! Once again, for old readers, please read because there is different info in here that might make you confused later on. And to new readers, please be patient I'm trying to edit the other chapters right now too. :)

The more that I stared at the necklace, the more it drew me in. I couldn't take my eyes off of it, much less move my body or talk.

"Sweet heart, are you ok?" Even then my voice of my grandmother couldn't pull me out of the spell. I could hear her perfectly fine, but my body refused to acknowledge her worried tone. Just... what in the world is going on?

'Baelynn...'

Huh? What was that?

'Baelynn...'

Someone was calling me. But it didn't sound like it was coming from the other three in the room. I couldn't even move to try and pin-point where the voice was exactly coming from.

I sighed internally as the voice grew louder.

'Baelynn... come closer...'

If I could move my body right now my eyes would be as wide as plates. I just realized the voice wasn't coming from another person at all.

It was speaking to me inside my mind.

  'Come closer...'

My gaze was still on the necklace as it started to slightly glow. And when I mean glow, I mean GLOW. Like a light green aura illuminated from it as if to tell me it was happy to see me. Wait, was the necklace actually TALKING to me?

  'Closer...'

My body then started to move on its own. My feet slowly started shifting towards my grandmother and my hand stretched out in front of me like I was trying to desperately reach for something.

'Don't worry, everything will be fine...'

My hand was now hovering over the necklace. Truth be told; I was scared about the situation. I had no idea what was going on, and this freaky voice kept talking to me like it was my friend.

I had so many questions in my mind, but before I could even think of ways to self-answer them, my hand brought its self-down and my fingertips touched the jade pendant. The surface of the rock was really smooth and I couldn't help but notice that heat was emanating from it. It felt like it was almost alive.

'Well… That’s one way to put it...'

The next thing I knew, a light flashed across my eyes and enveloped me into darkness. As I succumbed to the heavy exhaustion the voice spoke to me again.

'Hi, Baelynn... Long time no see...'

Third person POV:

Hanbin watched as Lady Jeon walked over to Baelynn and opened the black box. He wasn't surprised when she saw the gift and froze. Not only had he himself been in the same situation, he had to witness it happen five other times. He the red jewel in his ear knowingly; Because of this, he could already guess what was happening.

First things first, the poor girl would start to hear voices in her head and she won't be able to move.

Secondly, she'll start to feel drawn to the jewel and be forced to move towards it.

And, last but not least, she'll touch it and then faint; because that's what happened every single time. The only difference was that she was a girl. She was in fact the first girl to receive their jewel back.

He watched with no interest as the girl slowly walked to the box and touched the necklace.

  And 3...

2...

1...

BAM!

And with that, she fainted, just like he predicted.

Mr. Joohyun and Lady Jeon winced a bit at the sound.

"Oh... I hope she didn't hit her head too hard." Lady Jeon sighed. "I wonder how long it'll take for her to wake up..."

"Who knows..." Mr. Joohyun replied, looking at the girl on the floor in question. "If I remember right, Yunhyeong took about four days while Chanwoo lasted two weeks!"

"I really hope she won't last that long." Lady Jeon frowned in thought. "I really want to get her started on her training so we can start searching for the last six."

They both sighed again while Hanbin just stood there. The only reason why he was still even present was because Lady Jeon hadn't dismissed him yet. He waited patiently until the old woman looked in his direction.

"Hanbin-ah..." She called to him. He walked over to her.

"Can you please take Baelynn to her room? I need to speak to Joohyun a little bit more before we end the party."

Hanbin scrunched his nose and glanced at the unconscious girl on the floor. He would rather leave her on the floor than waste his strength and energy by walking her up two flights of stairs. But, it was an order/request from Lady Jeon; and he had no choice but to follow it.

He silently knelt beside the girl and hesitantly used his arms to scoop her up bridal style. Lady Jeon then stepped up and placed the necklace around her neck where it belonged.

Hanbin was too busy shouting complaints in his mind to notice the faint red glow illuminating from the jade as his hand touched the skin of the unconscious girl’s arm.

But Lady Jeon and Mr. Joohyun did. In fact, right when she noticed it glow, Lady Jeon's eyes shot up to see that Hanbin's ear cuff was also glowing red. She and Mr. Joohyun smiled at each other and when Hanbin left, Mr. Joohyun handed her a small wad of cash.

"Hehe... Told you they were meant for each other." Lady Jeon grinned as she counted her prize. Mr. Joohyun gave out an amused sigh.

"You know, sometimes I can't help but wonder if you have a sixth-sense for this stuff."

"After all these years and you still WONDER? Seriously?" Lady Jeon rolled her eyes and led them back to the party guest. They said goodbye to each guest and then went to bed with the same thoughts. From now on, life in the house was going to get pretty interesting.

    Baelynn POV:

There was darkness all around me at first, but then I was suddenly standing in a garden. There were flowers of different types everywhere along with a couple of butterflies flying around them to out their delicious nectar.

I looked around and found that the path that I was on led to a floral white gazebo standing in the middle of the garden.

I walked until the center of the gazebo's roof was over my head. My gaze drifted around and it wasn't long before I noticed a figure standing at one of the gazebo's arches.

It was a girl wearing a light green summer dress and black heels. Because of the gazebo's shadow I couldn't see her face; but I knew she was smiling.

"Who are you?" I finally got the nerve to ask. "Where am I?"

The girl didn't say anything. Instead she started walking in my direction and the shadow slowly left her face. I gasped at what I saw.

  I was looking at myself.

The other 'me' smiled. "Hey, Baelynn. It's been awhile, huh?"

"Huh? What are you talking about? Who are you?!"

Now I was freaking out. I didn't know where the heck I was and now I had to wonder why this stranger had the same face as me. I need answers, pronto.

"Oh, you're so silly!" The other 'me' laughed. "Here, I’ll help you out. What was the last thing you remember doing?"

I furrowed my brows in question, but had no other choice but to rummage through my memories. What else was I supposed to do at the moment?

"Uhh... well... I was at a party, my grandmother gave me a necklace as a birthday gift and then...."

"You passed out." She stated and I nodded my head.

"Yeah... wait. How did you know that?"

She smiled again softly. "Because I know everything about you, Baelynn."

 "And why is that?"

  "Because I AM you."

"Wait, hah?" Ok, now I was even more confused. The girl in front of me scratched the back of her head in thought.

"Well, Ok. Technically not YOU you. More like part of you. In a literal sense, I'm a part of your soul."

"Ok..." I tried not to sound like I was weirded out; which I totally was. "So... um... am I dreaming or something?"

"Yep!" She nodded and grabbed my hand. "Come with me. We're going to be in this state for a while. So while we’re here, I need to show you something."

"Wait. What do you mean 'be in this state for a while'?" I failed to hide the strain in my voice as she dragged me from the gazebo.

"Well.... I'd rather have grandma explain everything since she has more knowledge of it than I do. But... let's just say that... Something's happening to your body right now, and it takes a while for your body to fully get used to the change."

"And what's THAT supposed to mean?!" Now I was totally freaked out.

"Don't worry; grandma will explain everything to you." She tried to reassure me. "Just, try not to freak out TOO too much when you wake up. Ok?"

"er..." I was too shocked and confused to respond. Questions ran through my mind as we kept walking.

"Ah! Here we are!" My look-a-like exclaimed, bringing me out of my thoughts.

In front of us was a small building that looked like a typical grandmother's cottage. For some strange reason, it looked oddly familiar.

"Do you remember this place?" The girl beside me asked. “You should, because you've been here before."

She pointed at a sign hanging near the building. It read 'Busan Nursery House', a name that also sounded familiar. After that it wasn't long before it hit me.

This was the orphanage that I was in before I got sent to America.

"Why are we here?" my voice shook a little. My look-a-like squeezed my hand to try and comfort me a bit.

"Those dreams that you keep having..." She started off. "They're important. I know you were never able to remember them when you woke up, so that's why I'm going to show it to you right now."

My eyes grew in surprise. "How will you do that?"

"Because we're in your subconscious, silly! Anything can happen here!" She chuckled. "The dream wasn't just any dream. It was a memory, which is pretty easy to find once you're in your own mind."

I nodded a bit in understanding. "Ok. But why do I need to know about it? Is it important for some reason?"

"Yes it is. It is very important." She suddenly grew serious. "When you wake up this time you will remember it. And when you do, you need to tell grandma every single detail. It is of most importance that she knows. Now come on. We have a lot to see."

I didn't say anything as she began to drag me into the building. I didn't get a chance to look at how main part of the building was like because my look-a-like rushed me into what looked like a play room.

There were toys and play mats everywhere and I couldn't help but notice a total of seven children huddled together in a corner. They were all girls that seemed to range in different ages. Five of them were standing in a semi-circle and was looking at a smaller girl who was sitting in the middle, crying as a girl another girl was kneeling down and patting her back.

Curiously, I walked over and stood beside them so that I could see all of their faces. I didn't question why they couldn't notice me, for I knew it was just a memory; instead, I just tried my best to observe their faces to see if I could recognize them. They did look familiar... REALLY familiar in fact; especially the girl standing right in front of the one who was crying.

After a moment of looking at her, realization hit me. That girl is me! A younger version of me! And the others around me….. are they my friends?

I kept watching as one of them finally spoke.

"Lee Mi-seok, why are you crying?" The girl patting the other's back asked with worry etched into her voice.

"B-because..." Mi-seok sniffed. "We're going to have to leave soon, and we're going to be separated from each other." She shot a glance at the older girl. "Risa-unnie, I'm scared..."

"Shh~ Shhh~ Don't cry... We'll all be ok..." The girl, Risa said in calming voice. But her face furrowed with worry too.

Mi-seok and Risa... Their names sounded familiar.

Mi-seok began to hiccup. "B-but... What if we never see each other again?! You guys are the only things that I have! I don't want to be separated from you!"

Her crying increased as the others shared a knowing look. Another minute passed and the younger version of me knelt in front of the crying girl.

"Hey~ It'll be ok." The mini-me cooed. "It's not like we'll never see each other again." I could see how hard I was trying to be hopeful. But Mi-seok wasn't having any of it.

"Yeah, right!" She glared. "If you haven't forgotten, some of you are being moved to overseas orphanages! Heck! YOU'RE gonna be in America! Which teacher said was on the other side of the world! Just HOW are we going to see each other again when you're that far AWAY?!"

She buried her face into her hands and the mini-me reached out and put a hand on her shoulder. The action bought everyone's attention.

Mini-me started talking. "How about we make a promise?" She started out and wiped the younger's tears away. "We may only be kids now, but one day, we won't be kids. We'll be big adults someday, and when that day comes no one will be in control of us."

She held both Mi-seok and Risa's hands and helped them to stand up. "Not the orphanage, not the teachers, not even our foster or adoptive parents if we ever get any. When that day comes, I will immediately fly back here and find you..."

She looked at all the girl's faces. "I promise I will find you. ALL of you."

"Really?" one of the other girls spoke up. My mini-me looked at her and smiled. "Yes, Ha-na. Really."

"But they told me I was being sent to Japan." A tear glistened in Ha-na's eye. "How will you be able to find me there?"

"She's has a point." Another squeaked. "I'm gonna be sent to Germany and Young-hee-unnie has to go to China." She wrapped her arm around the said girl in comfort. "Did you forget how BIG China is?"

My mini-me nodded sadly, but determination fired in her eyes. "Yes, but that won't make me stop looking. Listen to me now."

She went back to looking at each of the girl's faces.

"Kim Jae-yoon..."

"Yang Young-hee..."

"Nam Iseul..."

"Kwang Ha-na..."

"Lee Mi-seok..."

"Han Risa..."

"It doesn't matter if you somehow find your selves in Narnia; I will do everything I can to find you. No matter what."

Risa smiled and placed a hand on my mini-me's shoulder.

"I know you will, and I will do everything in my power to help you."

“Me too!” Jaeyoon-unnie exclaimed excitedly. “I can’t have my best friend looking after the younger ones all by herself now can I?”

It wasn’t long before the other girls joined in on the agreement and the previous sad atmosphere was now filled with laughter.

"We really are going to see each other again, huh?" The last girl, Iseul, finally spoke up and smiled. The other's smiled back and my mini-me hugged her shoulders.

   "You got that right!"

I kept watching as they all laughed together. Sadness and grief had hit me like a ton of bricks.

"Why can I not remember them?" I asked my look-a-like. She frowned a bit.

"It has to do with the accident you had back in middle school." Her voice was soft as she explained. "You lost your memories of Korea, but didn't notice it because no one was there to help you through the struggle."

"I see..." The horrible memories of that night started to flash across my mind. I didn't want to think about it at the moment, so I quickly changed the subject.

"Why did you show me this?"

I looked at her and notice the change in her eyes. She was back to being serious.

"These girls are more important to you than you think." She gestured to the group of friends who were now playing a game. "Not only do you need them in your life right now, they need you in theirs."

I raised my brow. "What do you want me to do?" I asked.

"I want you to keep your promise to them. I want-no, I need you to find them."

   'You need to find them...'

The first thing that I noticed when I opened my eyes was the light reflecting off the ceiling above me. I could feel the sensation of a blanket on my body and that told me where I was; my room. Ok, well that answered one question; what about 'what time is it?'

I grudgingly sat up and saw that my phone was charging next to my bed. But before I could lean over to pick it up, the door to my bathroom opened and a boy's head popped out. He looked slightly familiar, but before I could figure out from where, he saw me and his eyes grew as big as plates. He didn’t hesitate to rush back into the bathroom.

"Hyung!!" I heard him scream. "She's awake!"

A few moments later he came back out and was accompanied by another boy who I also looked slightly familiar.

They ran to my bed's side with worry etched on their faces.

"Hi there. Are you feeling ok? Do you hurt anywhere? Can you see ok? How many fingers am I holding up?" The newer of the boys started spouting out different questions, but I was in too much shock to answer, so I just stared at him.

He had a baby face that sported blond hair and he wore a blue over-sized sweater with pale khaki shorts. His eyes were still filled with worry and I couldn't help but notice the cute mole he had on his left cheek beneath his eye.

While he was still spouting out nonsense questions, I took the chance to look at the boy next to him. Compared to the other guy, he was taller; in fact I think he could even be taller than Hanbin. He had short, black hair, wore a black skater shirt with white cargo shorts and had the cutest chubby cheeks I’ve ever seen, I refrained myself from trying to pinch them because I was still trying to figure out a few things.

After a while I was finally able to think strait and it dawned on me about who they were.

"Weren’t you guys at the party last night?" I asked, interrupting the boy in front of me just as he was asking if I could still see in color. “I’m sorry if I’m being rude here, but who are you and why are you in my room?”

Both of their eyes grew in surprise and I guess they realized how confused I was at the situation.

"Oh! Uh…” The shorter one scratched the back of his head and gave me an apologetic smile. "Where are my manners? I'm sorry. My name is Kim Jinhwan and this…” He gestured to the taller boy with chubby cheeks. "... Is Jung Chanwoo. We-"

He didn't get to finish for my Bathroom door once again opened up and more people came through it.

"Is she seriously awake?" The first new person asked in excitement. He had light brown hair that was parted slightly in the middle and wore a black and white striped shirt with black skinny jeans.

The guy next to him, who was almost as tall as chanwoo, rolled his eyes.

"Are you blind? Can't you see she's sitting up?" He snapped. This guy had blonde hair that was lighter than Jinhwan's and he wore a blue button-up shirt and jeans. He had this bored and annoyed look on his face and I could tell that he might have a bad mood problem.

The next boy to come out walked up to the sass master and whacked him on the back of the head.

"Hey, be nice." He scolded. His hair was a pale-brownish color and he wore a purple long-sleeved shirt and dark skinny jeans. In all honesty, he looked very similar to Chanwoo and I almost would've thought that they were brothers.

"Hyung~!" the sass master whined but was ignored as they stood behind Jinhwan and Chanwoo. I raised my brow in question and was about to speak until yet ANOTHER person came through my bathroom door.

"Hey! Wait for me!" He exclaimed as he popped out. As I saw him, I was instantly reminded of a bunny. His hair was covered by a black snap-back that he wore on backwards and he had on a red and black basketball jersey with black work out shorts. His eyes formed into crescents as he grinned, showing bunny-like front teeth.

When he finally got a spot near my bed, I looked at Jinhwan in question. He sheepishly grinned and proceeded with his introduction.

"Sorry about that." He “Now as I was saying befo-…”

“Hey! Sleeping Ugly! You finally woke up, huh?”

I didn’t have to look around the group of boys in front of me to know who was now in the room too.

"What, am I not supposed to be awake, Kim Hanbin?" I sneered at him.

He ignored me of course as he proceeded to walk towards my bed and sat down at the end of it. If my room wasn’t full of strangers at the moment I would’ve kicked him.

“Well….” One of the boys spoke up. “About that…. You see…”

He looked at Jinhwan as if it was ok to tell me what was going on. The look in his eyes was enough confirmation I guess because the boy spoke again.

  “You’ve kind of….” He hesitantly said. “Been a sleep for a while…”

I raised my brow at his words. “What? Did I sleep for half a day again or something?” What’s with the weird atmosphere in here?

Hanbin was the one to speak up this time. “You wish. You’ve actually been out of it for about a whole MONTH now.”

A/N: To all the old readers, as you can see I changed another name. Just in case you are curious, I've changed Kim Jami's name to Kim Jaeyoon. Jami sounded really sloppy and I have no Idea how I came up with it in the first place.
