Beep! Beep! Beep! The sound of your alarm woke you up from your slumber. You groaned as you dismissed the notification with your eyes half open.. You let your eyelids shut for a few seconds, but you sprung up realizing what day it was. You had absolutely no time to just lay in bed.

It’s my first day at a new school, I have to look decent, at least. You got out of bed and got ready for school - eating breakfast, washing your face, brushing your teeth, along with other things to be prepared.

As your dad was leaving, he offered to drop you off at school, even though it was walking distance.

“Since it’s your first day,” he told you when you asked him why. Sounds reasonable enough. He drove slowly and asked you a lot of questions, such as ‘Are you ready?’ and ‘Do you think you’ll be okay?’ He knew you weren’t too much of a fan of taking the initiative to talk to people. You asked yourself the same question.

When he dropped you off, he hugged you and gave you a forehead kiss before you exited the car.

“Have a good day sweetie! Text or call me if anything happens!” he yelled out the passenger window. You laughed at how embarrassing he was. Still, you were glad he said it.

Before walking through the front doors of your new school, you took a deep breath. Okay, Y/N, just walk in, stay a few hours, and leave. You then finally walked towards the doors.

When you entered, you saw kids talking to their friends, finishing homework, listening to music, or reading books. Some kids were also getting breakfast from the school cafeteria before class started. In front, you can see a door with a sign above it that said “Main Office.” As you remember the directions from registration for classes, you head to the Main Office.

A few kids were shuffling around with ID cards around their necks, so you assumed that they were helping in the office for first period. You recognized a familiar face and approached her.

She looked up as she saw you coming, and put a welcoming smile on her face.

“Y/N! Hi and welcome to the school! I have your schedule right here and someone will be guiding you to your classes throughout the day. He’s supposed to be around here…somewhere,” she looked around.

“Ah, Jackson! There you are. This is Y/N,” she introduced you.

“Hi Y/N! I’m Jackson Wang,  and I will be guiding you around our school. It’s nice to meet you!” he said enthusiastically.

You smiled. “You too.”

“Well, we better get started before we’re too late to class. May I see your schedule?” he pointed to the paper in your hand. You nodded and handed it to him.

“Oh, your first period is like right next to mine, so that will be no problem. Just follow me! And I may talk a lot, so if you want to say something or just want me to shut up, just poke me.” He walked out the front office door and you followed behind him closely, making sure to observe your surroundings so that somehow you’ll remember where your class is.

Almost as if he had noticed, Jackson says, “If you get lost one day, don’t worry! I’m right there and I’m usually talking with my friends in front the school in case you need anything.” You thanked him and he replied, “No problem!”

At nearly the same time he arrived at your class door, the bell to go to class had rung. You saw kids walking into your class with their bags, all talking noisily as they went in. Jackson told you a little bit about the teacher and how she was, since he had her last year.

As one of his friends called him into class, he said, “I’ll see you after, okay?” You nodded and waved at him before going into your class. When you did, a few kids noticed that you were a new face. You made your way up to the teachers desk from the back of the room. You approached her and told her your name.

“I knew a new student would be joining my class, and it’s nice to meet you Y/N.  I’m Ms. Park. You can sit in the back seat over there, next to Liz.” When Liz heard her name being called, she waved enthusiastically. She looks nice….

As class went on, Liz told you about the teacher, the class, and the kids. When you asked her questions about the work, she explained thoroughly what the assignment was. You considered her your first ‘friend’ since she was so friendly towards you.

The dismissal bell rang as you were packing up, Liz asked, “You probably don’t have somewhere to sit for lunch, huh? You can sit with me and my friends! We are by the big tree behind the school.”

“Thank you, I really appreciate it!” you said. You walked out of the classroom to see Jackson waiting.

“Hey, how did it go?” he asked you.

“Pretty nice, I met a girl named Liz, who invited me to lunch.”

“Really? Great! Now, let us go to your next class.” On the way there, Jackson continuously talked, as he did before. That’s how it was for the rest of the day, him filling up the quiet spots and sometimes asking you questions.

When lunch came around, Jackson told you he would meet you in the cafeteria so he could guide you to your next class. After that, he went to eat with his friends. After wondering what you were going to do for lunch, you remembered that you were invited to have lunch with Liz and her friends.

Lunch was nice since you had some people to spend it with, and they didn’t ask you too much either. They talked about their days and asked you how your classes have been so far. They were friendly towards you, and invited you back whenever you wanted.

The bell dismissing lunch period rang and you made your way back to the cafeteria. After waiting a minute or so, Jackson came.

“You ready?” After you nodded, he started walking to your next class. He asked you how your lunch went, and he talked in detail about his. He even told you about how one of his friends nearly choked on their food and how he kept laughing.

“I must be an evil person.” He smiled mischieviously.

For the few periods of the day left, Jackson talked about each and let you know what to expect, since he’s had most of those teachers. He even made jokes about them. You could tell he was one of the ‘class clowns.’

As the school day ended and you started to walk home, you hear a voice call out to you, “Y/N, wait up!” Jackson ran until he caught up to you, panting.

“You, walk” he puffed. As you stopped and allowed him to catch his breath, he said, “I live in this direction too! Let’s walk together.”

On the walk home, he talked about funny moments that happened in class, confusing classes, nice teachers…everything from A to Z. He even gave you some advice for this school.

“Ms. Vander is pretty mean and you never want to get on her bad side. In fact, it’s best if you try not to meet her in your whole school career, UNLESS it’s for a reward or some kind of recognition.” You laughed that at the fact a teacher could even be so ridiculous.

Through his laughing, he said, “I’m serious though! She may be a good friend of the devil.” After stopping laughing, a rare silence occurred. Jackson spoke up.

“You don’t talk too much, do you?”

“Not really…only to people I’m close to.” You answered.

“Hm, I see,” he paused. “Not in a weird way, but it’s cute. I have a friend Mark who’s also pretty quiet, but he and I are best friends since we balance each other out.”

A minute after Jackson talked, you arrived at your street. It was quiet until then. He spoke up again.

“It was nice meeting you today! I live just one street up, so we can walk to school together if you want.”

“Sure! And it was nice meeting you today too. Thank you for all your help. I’ll see you tomorrow then.” You turned your back and started to walk towards your home.

“Y/N!” He called you. You turned around to see him walk back towards you.

“Can we be friends?” His question caught you by surprise. It was a little out of the blue, but you did want to be friends with him. He seems like the understanding and friendly type, and it’s hard to find people like that.

“Sure,“ you answered his question. He rustled to get something in his pocket.

“We should exchange phone numbers! Just in case you need something or like help with anything…” he suggested, holding his phone out.

You looked in your bag for yours, and once you had it in your hand, you exchanged phones with him. After attaining each others’ number, you handed the phones back.

“Alright, cool…so I’ll see you tomorrow?” He questioned. Of course he’ll see you tomorrow, but he wants to know if he’ll see you tomorrow.

“Yeah, see you then.” You beamed at him. That wasn’t too bad of a first day.
