“If you had to have a nickname that was a breakfast food, what would it be?” “Hotcakes,” Seunghyun said solemnly. Daesung snorted. “And what would I be?” “Honey buns.”
"I don't want to live like those guys you see, scared to leave the house for fear that it will be the last time. I don't want to be that pathetic man ostracized by everyone at church functions except the pastor because they all know what he is. I don't want to disappoint my family in favor of my own selfish desires. Be realistic...We could never work in the real world." Daesung is at a gay conversion therapy Christian camp. Seunghyun enters stage right.
“I will never let you down and I promise I will never, ever hurt you. Not on your life. Don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise. And I will make sure that you get on that stage and you blow the crowd away.” Seunghyun is a drug dealer. Daesung is his musically-talented lookout looking for a way out.
“Is this some sort of game,” he said flatly. “You are suspicious and weary beyond your years, Angel. Has it ever crossed your mind that someone might like you?” “It did, once. But then he didn’t bother calling back. And neither did the next one.” “Then it’s their loss,” said Seunghyun fiercely.
Seunghyun thinks Daesung shouldn't pretend everything is all right, especially around his boyfriend. Daesung just wants to eat his bagel in peace.
If you are a Lana Del Rey fan, you can tell by my username that I am one, too. Recently I've been listening to "Diet Mountain Dew" and I felt inspired to write a slice-of-life story where Seunghyun wonders just how much Daesung cares for him, while Daesung wonders just what is going on in his boyfriend's bingu mind. There are a few references to the song sprinkled throughout the story. This is mostly fluff to get me in the mood for summer.
