Hello and welcome to the AFFHelper page!

Disclaimer: We are here to serve the general user population on AFF with technical issues and any site-related questions; however, should anyone leave a message or comment that becomes malicious, inflammatory, libelous, slanderous, defamatory, or uses the response system in such a manner that violates the Terms of Use, we will have no choice but to block your account(s) and leave a report with the Moderators in the event it continues on another account or IP address. Please see section 11 - Prohibited User Conduct on the Terms of Use for more details.

NOTICE: If you are reporting a technical issue, such as problems with the story editor or a photo failing to upload, we recommend that you first log out and back into your account, then clear your browser cache and cookies to see if that solves the problem. AFFHelper FAQ

Please see if your question has been answered below or in the site FAQ before leaving a wall post/private message. Thank you!

I think I came across a TOS violation/possibly plagiarized story!
Please report the content to the Moderators immediately; we do not have the power nor authority to view reports filed with the site aside from the posts and comments we receive on here.

My story here on AFF has been plagiarized elsewhere! What do I do?
One of our site members has written up a very useful blog concerning this. If the site you need to contact is not listed there, search the main page of the site for their support/report abuse page; most major writing sites have one.

I need to report a user conflict.
Usually, user conflicts can be solved personally between the users it involves. Try to not get involved in these situations, even if those involved already are friends. If a blog post or story was made to intentionally bash another user, please use the Report Content button on the post to alert the Moderators. If a user had left malicious messages on a profile or post, please screenshot the message/comment(s) and leave us a private message (not a wall post) so we can send a report to the Moderators.

I would like to appeal a moderator's decision on a report.
If you have had a report filed against you, you can access them on your profile (Other > Reports). If the report has been closed, you may not be able to reply, but as we work closely with the Moderators, we can communicate with them and see if anything can be done. Please be aware that with appeals on banned stories and posts comes the responsibility of proof on the user.

I would like to appeal to a moderator to unban my account.
We are unauthorized to un-ban/reactivate accounts as Helpers; that is strictly a Moderator ability. Because we work closely with the Moderators, we can communicate with them and see if anything can be done; in the end, though, it is up to the Moderators and site administrator, not the Helpers.

What’s the difference between M and Trigger Warning? How do I know what marking to use?
Please see this blog post for more details. The Asianfanfics FAQ, located at the top of the page, will also help you understand what counts as rated M material. A general guideline you may use to distinguish the two is: if it's only rated content, it should be marked as M; if it's rated content that's highly sensitive and/or triggering (such as explicit abuse, explicit self-harm, graphic violence, explicit adult situations, etc.), it should be marked as Trigger Warning. Note that certain topics are prohibited on the site and may result in the story being banned or force-marked Trigger Warning.

What’s the difference between Friends Only, Subscribers Only, and Members Only?
Friends Only renders your content visible to only users you are Friends with. Subscribers Only renders your content visible to those who have subscribed to your story. Members Only renders your content visible to all who hold an account with Asianfanfics.

My total Subscriber count is different from the total I counted on every story. Why is that?
The total number of Subscribers applies to unique Subscribers; that is, if one person subscribes to every one of your stories, they will only be counted once.

The toolbar to edit my story isn't showing. How do I fix this?
Clear out your browser cache and ensure that it's the entire cache. If it's still not working, test with a different browser on the same device. If it's working there, then it's most likely that you didn't clear the entirety of the cache. See if switching to the alternate editor works before contacting us. Should the problem still persist, let us know!

How do I retrieve deleted content (i.e. stories, conversations, blog posts, etc)?
Unfortunately, when a user deletes anything on the site, for security reasons neither the site admin nor Helpers have access to the content. This means that once content is deleted, it cannot be retrieved. We recommend always saving your posts elsewhere; accidental deletions are known to happen!

Why is my story layout messed up?
Try disabling Reader Mode. If you have a certain layout code in place, check to make sure some coding is not missing or in error. If the problem persists, contact us!

There's something wrong with my layout code/I need to make a change to my layout code. Can you help me?
As this is a new feature, only a few Helpers know HTML coding enough to feel comfortable giving answers. Please provide image screenshots and/or links with layout questions, as these are extremely helpful and allow us to see what you are seeing, so that we can aid you in manipulating the code. We do recommend that all layout makers upload their codes to the layout market to prevent errors from occuring.

Every time I paste something from a word document into a new chapter, it doesn't upload!
Because of formatting, sometimes content written in a word processor (like Wordpad or MS Word) will not paste properly, if at all, into the editing box. There are several ways to fix this. First and foremost, use the "Paste from Word" option, which is located on the top line of the toolbar; it's a little clipboard icon with a W on it. If that does not work, use the icon to the left of it, "Paste as Plain Text." It will mess up your formatting, but it should work. If all else fails, click "Source" on the far left corner of the toolbar and paste into the box, then click "Source" again. This will also mess with your formatting, but it's nearly guaranteed to work. Should the problem persist, contact us!

Why won't my mobile device paste anything into the editor? The formatting breaks! And I can't use Ctrl + V!
We've been made aware of this problem and are unfortunately at a loss to solve it, as there's little we can do on our end to help. For now, we recommend that you take whatever content you are trying to copy/paste and put it into the textarea mode box, save your work, then open and switch to editor mode and make the appropriate changes there. Because users access the site on a variety of devices, there are so many different ways to copy and paste onto your mobile devices. Try Googling your device and how to copy and paste content on it.

How do I upload an image into my story/blog/description/profile?
First, upload the image(s) you wish to use to an image site such as Photobucket, imgur, or tumblr; you will need the direct link to the photo. On the second row of the editing toolbar, there's an icon with a little landscape on it. Click on it, and a box pops up; paste the direct link into the box and click OK. Your image should immediately load inside the editing box. The same process goes for uploading a display photo, except that you must go to Edit Profile/Profile Settings and paste the link in the Display Image box.

How do I link to another page/website in my post?
If you're linking a specific word or phrase to redirect users, highlight the word(s) first. In the editing toolbar, you'll see a icon with a chainlink on it. Click that, and a dialog box pops up. Paste the url into the box and click OK. Please note that any redirects to graphic images or material prohibited by the site's TOS will result in an automatic account ban.

How do I create a poll?
Go to your Profile, hover over Other, and scroll to Polls. There will be a button, "Create a Poll." If you would like to embed the code into a story or blog post, take the HTML code and (when you open a new post) switch over to Source and paste it there.

How do I gift Karma to another user?
The button has been moved to a user's profile, right below their information (i.e. birthday, Karma points, etc). There is a little red present icon with the words Gift Karma next to it. Click that, enter the amount, and enter your password to send Karma to that particular user.

When I exclude certain tags from search, stories with the content still pop up!
Check all the tags in some of the suggested stories before reporting to us. For example, say an author excluded the tag "exo" so they don't see exo stories. There are tags like "exo0," "exo000," "exo000baekhyun," and so on and so forth, and those tags will not be excluded unless you instruct the site to ignore them through exclusion, which means the stories you want to avoid will still pop up. Your best bet is to exclude as many tags as possible in case you still come across stories you would rather not see.

If you want to reinclude a tag, first search the site for stories exclusively with the tag; there should be a "Re-include this tag..." button on that page.

How do we find our ranking as an author on the site?
Right now, the only way to see an individual user’s rank is to go through the ranking pages one by one and search for your name. The page can be accessed by clicking the star icon in the upper right green area of the site. The black bar beneath will have a list of links. On the far right, one is named "Authors." Click that to access the page. You can use your browser's Find feature to search for your name individually on each page.

How do I use a layout from the marketplace?
One of our veteran uses actually created a video tutorial for beginners that may be viewed here.

I have a suggestion for a feature!
We always welcome suggestions from users, even if you think it’s too simple or weird; user feedback on already existing features and ideas for new ones let us create a better site experience for you overall! If you have a suggestion, please post a comment on the suggestion masterpost blog; sometimes they tend to get lost on our walls and in the inbox!

How do you become a Moderator?
Because we work so closely with the Moderators, we will be told if or when they are in need of hiring more people as volunteer moderators. Until then, continue to report TOS violations and plagiarized stories to them as you come across them, as it is the only way they will know about prohibited content, and also lets them know that the community is doing what they can to help.

How do you become an AFF Helper?
As we are a group of contracted individuals hired to assist Asianfanfics users, regular users are unable to become a Helper at this time. However, this doesn’t necessarily render you helpless! By reporting various issues and problems on the site and within the community, as well as letting other users know about the AFFHelper account, you are actually lending a helping hand! :)

I lost my login information; can I still access my account?
For the sake of account security and privacy, no human (administrator, Moderator, Helper, or otherwise) has access to or record of any user's login information. That information is recorded and handled exclusively by the site itself. For that reason, it is very important that you remember to verify the valid, accessible email address you registered with. If you did not verify that email address, the site cannot send you your login information.

If you need to validate your email address, you can do so by clicking the black "Edit Profile" tab from your profile page and editing/entering a valid email address at the top of the page under the heading "Email". If you have already validated an email address and have forgotten your password, it can be recovered by using the "Forgot password?" link on the login page. You will then receive an email to the email address you entered. Be sure to check your spam folder as well.

Why haven't you answered my question? Am I being annoying/bothersome?
Not at all! There is a limited amount of us, and when we are all on at the same time, if one person clicks a notification, it disappears and the others may not see it and know that a wall post, private message, or comment went unanswered. We will always get back with you, even if it's just to say that we're checking into the issue; if you have not heard from us, we might not have seen it, but feel free to resend the message! But please be patient, there are only so many of us, after all! Remember, we're here for you guys!

About Me

Asianfanfics is a fanfiction site originally maintained by a group of volunteers who themselves are avid writers and readers from Asianfanfics. For a long time, Asianfanfics prided itself in the fact that it was moderated by the community and was run by the users themselves. Unfortunately, volunteers also have limitations on their time and are under no obligations. This constrained Asianfanfics' abilities to service its users.

AFFHelper is a user account run by a separate third party service company comprised of eight employees contracted by Asianfanfics to serve and interact directly with the users of Asianfanfics on a near full-time basis. We will be supplementing the current volunteers by helping to answer all of your questions and by receiving your site suggestions and technical glitch reports. But please do use the report link on stories and blogs for everything else since plagiarism reports are handled by a separate staff.

Thank you for inviting us into your community! Happy writing =)
