ACKGROUND

Born into a relatively happy and normal family, the only hardship that Byun Baekhyun would ever face in his young age was the harsh and vigorous training implemented by his Olympic champion gymnast athlete parents who strive to continue the family legacy as the world's top gymnasts and acrobats through their son. From a young age, Baekhyun was taught to be the best ad only the best. His family accepted nothing short of perfect discipline and virtory, and that was exactly what he delivered to them.

However, not everything was rainbow and roses in the Byun household. Byun Baekbeom's previous gambling-addict past finally caught up to him and his family - even after 10 years of hiding - when a so-called family friend betrayed the Byuns, leading the debt collectors to their front door...all for a quick buck.

The Murders

The 9-year-old Baekhyun, who was bound and gagged , could only helplessly spectate from the sidelines as he watched his father being bludgeoned to death and his mother and slaughtered in front of his very eyes. For unknown reasons, the debt collectors did not harm a hair on his head head and decided to let him go, just like that. And when the police arrived hours later, they were mostly shocked that Baekhyun had came away from the entire ordeal physically unscathed, though the mental damage inflicted upon his young mind will haunt him for the rest of his life.

Baekhyun moved from foster home to foster home often as his psychological problems and violent tendencies began to worsen as time went by. And when he was 10, the young Baekhyun ran away from the foster home he was staying in to track down his family's murderers. He eventually found them, hiding out in an old abandoned warehouse where they were laying low after the Byuns' murders and was about to walk into said warehouse, armed only with a box knife to avenge his parents when he was stopped by a mask vigilante.

The Dark Knight

The vigilante, known to the rest of the world as 'The Dark Knight', stopped him by making him think about the choice he would make. The chance that he would get out of the entire ordeal alive was less than zero and he wouldn't nearly be as lucky as he was when they decided not to harm him the last time he crossed paths with the agents of the Solitaire. There were other ways for revenge, more efficient and more deadly then any harm Baekhyun could inflict with a simple box knife. And the Knight was the right person to show the young boy how to do it. Intrigued, Baekhyun pocketed the box knife and chose to trust the older man.

'Mentor' soon became 'father' as the Knight, or his real identity, Kang Soohyun - Chairman of Imperial Inc. aka one of the richest men in Korea adopted the young Baekhyun as his son and heir. Soohyun saw potential in the boy to become even a better warrior than he and began training him in martial arts at the same time educacting him in the connving ways of the rich and powerful and to appear to the rest of the world as the perfect billionaire playboy - just as his mentor was.

Baekhyun eventually developed a mask of his own, showig the entire word his rich, pretty boy facade while hiding the cold, heartless warrior within himself. As heir of the Chairman of Imperial Inc. , he was awarded the position of Vice CEO at the tender age of 20, even before he finished his MBA degree as a twentieth birthday gift from Soohyun.

Checkmate

It was also the same year in which he officially became part of the Checkmates, in which the Dark Knight also holds a high position in the group of vigilantes. Being an expert himself and trained since childhood, Baekhyun easily rose through the ranks of Checkmate, faster than any of his fellow Pawns and landed himself a spot as part of the Elite Knights. Though he is regarded as one of the best fighters in Checkmate, he is also known as the one with one of the least mercy. Though he usually restrains himself when it comes to taking the lives of his foes, he doesn't hold back when it comes to hurting them and giving them the justice he thinks they deserve. The majority of his enemies that are still alive spend most of their time in ICUs, recovering from the heavy injuries inflicted upon them.

 

ERSONALITY

Civilian

Byun Baekhyun, the person known to the majority of the world, is a sanguine personality type - talkative, cocky, easily bored and fun-loving. He acts like mosts billionaire playboys and is usually very easy-going in life (especially when it comes to his mile-long list of conquests). Baekhyun also has a very charming and witty demeanour and is often considered as the nicest, most popular hunk in college, only five times as gifted, five times as cool, five times as smart - and ten times as dedicated. He will approach everything with the confidence born of amazing talent and incredible training, yet manage to never seem pretentious in the slightest, always caring for others and being genuinely attentive.

Despite being a huge hit with the ladies with his attractiveness, confidence and boy next door charm, his romantic life keeps turning into a minefield through little fault of his own. He keeps trying, though and has an easy, flattering, gently flirting manner.

Although he in infamous for his playboy reputation, Baekhyun is also well-known for his inquisitive and his quick mind, proving to the other employees in Imperial Inc. that he deserved his role as Vice CEO and not simply given because of his parentage.

Knight

His personality take a complete 180 turn when he becomes the knight version of himself. Baekhyun is no longer the carefree and jokey young man but instead becomes extremely serious and stern. His advanced skills makes him a strong leader with a personable demeanour, though he can sometimes be a bit harsh when it comes to punishment regarding mistakes. he is also a person who has a long memory and holds grudges - which is usually a recipe for disaster.

Though Baekhyun has his strengths, the young man is also human and has just as many weaknesses. His most fatal flaw is that he lacks the ability to restrain himself when it comes to fighting someone. He doesn't think when he's angry and riled up, he only does. Baekhyun is alo somewhat emotionally unbalanced and though, he's not much of a brooder when it comes to his parents' death, he suffers terrible nightmares and night terrors that mentally and physically affect him the next day, which makes him more rash and prone to violent tendencies. His lack of self-restraint is quite problematic to the Checkmates at times and though he's getting better nad exercises more self-control after becoming leader, his unpredictable personaliy worries the Court of Checkmates and also the main reason why he was never made Bishop.

 

PPEAREANCE

Baekhyun is regarded as very attractive and has a a long list of admirers himself. He has dark hair (which changes, varying with his mood) that is left unkempt, hanging over his forhead, statuesque facial features and a lean, toned body since he was an acrobat and skilled at martial arts and gymnastics. He's not that tall in the height department and is a modest 5'9".

Civilian

In his civilian wear, Baekhyun prefers to dress in a wealthy-casual getup, usually consisting of designer pressed cotton shirts, form-fitting slacks and slim-fitting jackets, paired with his favorite pair of Burberry sunglasses. Though occasionally, he does wear jeans and the odd t-shirt or two. At work, it's mostly tailored English-cut suits and ties.

Knight

Baekhyun has two different styles when it comes to his vigilante life, usually based on which codenames he goes under which is split into two: Nightwing (his Knight vigilante costume), or Agent 37 (His black ops suit).

His Nightwing suit is made of a protective armour over a Kevlar suit which is mostly onxy black that covers his entire body in a resistant Kevlar material for battle. This suit also has softer jointed material that takes a more purple tinted color for higher flexibility in certain areas. The suit also features armored shoulder pad and a chest plate that is designed with Knights' signature insignia. He also wears gloves and boots that are not attached to the full body uniform along with his adapted uility belt with all of his gadgets including his signature Escrima Sticks that are attached to but placed under the utility belt and stick on his right leg. The most prominent feauture of his getup, however, is his balck domino mask covering his eyes and concealing his identity.

His Agent 37 suit (stealth suit) on the other hand is made of a lighter protective Kevlar material which allows more mobility and flexibility in shades of black or camouflage. The suit also has a specially-adpated utility belt but equipped with stealth and recon gadgets. He wears electroshock gloves and black combat boots made with lightweight material to reduce the sound of footsteps as well as a specialized stealth gadget called Hypnos implants that enable the user to hypnotize others. However, it is revered as a prototype (created by the scientists of Checkmate) and a dangerous implant in which can open a two-way brain scramble. The implants makes the user's face unable to be captured by surveillance cameras and a person's memory

 

OWERS AND ABILITIES

Peak Human Condition: Through years of extensive and intensive training, Baekhyun has achieved the peak of human perfection both mentally & physically .

Master Acrobat: Baekhyun is a prodigious natural athlete, possessing a peak human level of agility/acrobatic skills. He is generally regarded as the greatest human acrobat in the COF universe. The Dark Knight himself is an incredible athlete in agility, but even he gives the advantage in that area over to Baekhyun. As he is the only person on Earth who can do the quadruple somersault (formerly one of three, the other two being his parents).

Master Martial Artist: He is a master of many martial arts disciplines with an emphasis on Aikido, Jeet Kune Do, Escrima, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Wing Chun, Hapkido, Jiu-jitsu, Shotokan Karate, Savate, Kendo, Ninjitsu, Boxing and Tang Soo Do . He has effectively combined the martial arts he has mastered into a unique style that suits his strengths.

Master Detective: Baekhyun is a world class detective on par to the likes of his mentor. He was rigorously trained by the Dark Knight in everything from escapology to criminology, fencing, stealth, disguise, and numerous other combat/non-combat disciplines.

Skilled Leader: He is also a brilliant and experienced strategist with superlative leadership skills, having served as leader to the Elite Knights and assigned his very own recon team. Additionally, his efforts to remain in contact with other vigilantes makes him a master at rallying, unifying, and inspiring the superhero community, a skill in which he has surpassed his mentor.

Multi-lingual: Having had the finest education as Kang Soo Hyun's ward, he speaks with fluency in Korean,English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Farsi (Persian), Mandarin and Cantonese, and has some knowledge of Romany.
