"Oh father, please father, put the bottle down for the love of a daughter."

For the Love Of A Daughter - Demi Lovato used to be my all time favourite song during my younger days. Demi hitting the high notes perfectly, contributes to the factors as to why I really loved this song. It never occured to me that one day, I would be the one listening to the song and feel my heart ache because the lyrics speak the truth. This particular song, is written about Demi's father who is an alcholic who left his family behind. Similarly, well not really, my parents also drink to their hearts' content. 

Sigh.

Some may ask, why does it bother? A glass or two could never hurt a soul, right? Let me tell you why it's wrong. It's not pretty, when you wake up for school in the morning, and you see your mother collapsed at the front door, make-up smeared face. It's horrible when the house reeks of alcohol. When your father passed out on the sofa, traces of puke everywhere. 

I was oblivious as to what was happening, when I was younger. They would just tell me they were going out to the night market, and being the 7 year old me, of course I liked it when they went out. That meant I could stay up late to watch midnight tv shows. 

I didn't know. 

I never knew my older siblings used to wait for them in the living room. Tick tock, goes the clock, and they never returned until the dawn broke. As I grew up, I realised what was happening. I realised what was wrong with my family, when I was 15. One night, they went out to a "restaurant", and at 4 AM, the phone rang. My mother called, saying she was seeing stars in her eyes and that both of them couldn't drive home. It was horrible, really. I was ashamed. When she smiled at me, in her drunken state.

I pray to god, why do they have to live a party life? It screws a child mentally when they see their parents in that disgusting state, is what they on the net. I don't know anymore. My parents are many things, but unfortunately, sober does not make the list. I hope things will be okay again.
