Shin Hye stared into the stranger's eyes and recognized something she felt quite a lot lately. He didn't speak, or move, or blink even once, and somehow, she got the impression that this was his way of giving her permission to search into him. "Why me?" She finally asked after a long silence.
Min Ho gave her the tiniest of smiles before looking away. "You're very pretty."
"You're lying."
"If you think I'm lying, someone needs to buy you a mirror, little lady," he chuckled without taking his eyes off the lake in front of him. Shin Hye didn't think it was very funny, but it sounded sincere. He took a sip from his wine glass and sighed.
"You're empty," she mumbled under her breath, inching closer to him so their elbows were side by side on the wooden railing as they took in the beautiful scenery in front of them. The drive had been long, but it was worth it if only for this: an honest moment at a magical place. "You brought me here thinking spending tonight with a stranger is better than being alone," she continued.
"If you knew all that, then why did you come?" Min Ho shifted his body to turn to her. Shin Hye noticed the way his eyes brushed over all of her features before settling on her eyes.
"I wanted a reckless night out. Be a different person for once," she smirked, trying to recall the perfect lady everyone adored that she'd hidden away inside of her just for tonight. "But if I'm going to be completely honest, maybe I'm just as empty as you are."
He put down the glass and lifted his hand, brushing his fingers over her lower lip ever so lightly before resting them on her cheek. "Do you think we'll feel differently after this?"
She closed her eyes briefly and basked in the warmth of his touch -- a welcome contrast to the chilly 2 AM air. "We can find out," she spoke, feeling Min Ho's warm breath tickle her nose. Moments later, she felt his soft lips on hers, sending sparks to the rest of her body. She kissed him back with yearning, her hands naturally pressing against his chest. She's felt more alive in the past five hours with this man than she has in years.
She fluttered her eyes open when he pulled back, resting his forehead on hers. "I don't know how I'll feel tomorrow," he whispered. "But my heart is full right now."
Shin Hye smiled, not sure if she should believe Min Ho. He is, a stranger, after all. But she'd be lying if she said she didn't feel the same way.
There were only two ways this was going to end: either she wasn't going to see this stranger again, or he wasn't going to stay a stranger for long. A heartbreak over a transient moment or a new beginning with a kindred spirit. Either way, all she wanted to do was kiss him again.
She closed the distance between them and did exactly that.
