40 Questions for Fic Writers (From AsianNoodles/Stolen from Blu3Wind)

1. Describe your comfort zone — a typical you-fic.

Mystery, detective, comedy, and historical. I'm a big historical fan~! Especially dramas xD Maybe it's cause of the language they use....Sound so professional!

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
I think I've tried everything I really wanted so I'm all set~!

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Honestly (though I do have a scene or two in one or two of my stories), because I don't prefer romance I don't usually write about but unless it's like a 'requirement' to build up the characters (or if it makes my readers happy) then I'll add it.

4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
A ton. I'm always thinking of new stories lol. This one I've been thinking about is a fantasy one featuring Infinite with Woohyun as the main character (cause he seems to fit the role better. Although most of my Infinite stories has Myungsoo as the main :P). Where they are in this fictional world 'war-time' and his job is to a woman on a journey. In that process they met many friends and foes with all sort of powers, etc.
I with summary so I'll stop here lol. The story isn't published yet, if I publish it I'll have the need to work on it so I need to get my other seven done before I start anymore stories xD

5. Share one of your strengths.
Definitely cliffhangers~

6. Share one of your weaknesses.
Sentence structure lol.

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
In a corroded basement, Yoo Seungho rested on a torn and rusty couch. His height outran the couch, and his feet hung beyond the arms of the old furniture. Footsteps began approaching him head-first. "Are you sleeping again?" A calm voice mumbled beside him. "After all these months, how you manage to sleep so peacefully through all those soulless cries still amazes me."

Dead Wayfarers, Chapter 1 (First paragraph)
Here we know there are two people, one is Yoo Seungho, while the other you still had to read on to find out who. I'm proud of this because I believe of all stories, this is the best opening I have published from one of my favorite pieces.

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

It was already midnight but the bright lights in one particular two stories house were still on.

"I told you that's not right, why are you arguing with me?" Park Ji Bin asked a butler loudly. Ji Bin was seated in his large desk, enough for ten students to sit around, with a stack of papers and textbooks opened to the middle. He was irritated when the butler wasn't supportive and helping him with his studies. "How is 'x' to the power of three minus 'n' divided by 'z' equals 0? Can't you see it says find 'y' right here? [(x^3-n)/z=y]" The butler in his sixties peeked over the boy's head to see the problem once again.

"Young master, if you do not know how would I know? It's been five decades since I've done math." the butler whined and Ji Bin scoffed.

"I see, you can't even calculate the result for when you last did math. What are those brains for when they can't even do a little math?" Ji Bin mocked and the butler was dumbfounded.

"Young master, what do you mean?" he asked leaning in closer to the boy.

"Butler Kwon, you're sixty-three years old, why was it five decades ago since you've done math? Did you only take math classes until you were 13?"

The butler noticed his miscalculation then quickly try to correct himself but the boy raised a hand. "Nevermind, I'll solve it on my own. Seriously, no one in this house can do math and history. So frustrating." he sighed and started focusing on the problem again as the man beside him kept silence. Then a knock came to the door and as it opened slowly, their attention drew the entering maid, she bowed a 90 degrees bow then stood up halfway.

"Young master, Master wanted to talk to you. He's on the main telephone line." she quickly left after the announcement and Ji Bin looked to the man, then he sighed deeply again.

"Did you tattled again?" Ji Bin asked and the man took small strides quickly out the door to avoid answering. Ji Bin stood up from his seat, "Butler Kwon! Kwon Jun Gyu!" he sighed and shoved both hands into his black black slacks, "That traitor! You just wait until I get done with that phone call!" Ji Bin exited the room as well as he makes his way to the living room, he grabbed the wired phone on the table and shut his eyes to calm down his nerves before answering, "Yeah, it's Ji Bin."

A Yearning Desire / Chapter 2
What makes me proud is probably the fact that Jibin's parents doesn't support his education but would rather he enjoy life. And I'm glad I came up with this kind of scenario for the fellow as a side character. (I guess xD)

9. Which fic has been the hardest to write?
Concealed Identity
Like seriously I've switched the story, its characters, and openings like forever. I'm never satisfied with one version lol. It used to be a dialogue style of story, then I turned it into a 'novel-like' then back and forth then I finally settled on a novel. And it's one of my favorite story to think about too, even my sister said she enjoyed its storyline among the rest of my stories :D

Absolutely both. I've been writing forever with over hundred of stories from one-shots to couple hundred pages long :D (yet no improvement on my grammar whatsoever, meh....)

12. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
I don't think I've ever come across any writing advice. However, I was complimented for remembering to include everything in the foreword in the story where it was necessary.

13. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
Indenting my first sentence in every paragraph. Honestly Idunno how to do that lol. So when one person said that's what I needed to do, I went blank xD Still dunno how to do it and not planning to use that idea.

Sunggyu and Hyuna ~ I'm helping Sunggyu Oppa here xD

I usually start writing then plan as I go along until I can slowly change it to the ending I've had planned.

16. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?
Everything's in my head xD Unless it's like one of those nights where I can't sleep and keep thinking about my stories then for some reason I just happen to imagine a great scene, then I'll jot down the ideas in my phone.

Never. After writing it I just post it.

20. Choose a passage from one of your earlier fics and edit it into your current writing style.
School-Battle Grounds / Chapter 3: Getting to Know the Classmates

Original: Aside from the stares and glares Myungsoo and Yesung were getting from a group of five people, no one else was present. Yesung had his desk out of line as he sat closely to Myungsoo, the group was given the pleasure to view Myungsoo, as a whole. Yesung still had that big smile on his face but it didn't bother Myungsoo, Yesung was always excited to be with Myungsoo.

Edit: Aside from Myungsoo and Yesung, no one else was present in the room except a group of five staring and glaring at them. Yesung's desk was out of line as he sat beside Myungsoo, in return the group was given a better view of Myungsoo as a whole. Yesung wore a big smile on his face as he was always excited to be with Myungsoo.

Errr Idunno if that did any good but yeah....Lol

21. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
I have a lot....But Breaking Her Labyrinth featuring Tao and Ga In is one I'd definitely go back and revise. It was horribly done when I rushed the middle to end because I didn't want the story to be any longer >_<

N/A~!

23. What do you look for in a beta?
I've had one beta before and she is fantastic~! However if I were to request another beta reader, I'll look for one that will try to communicate with me on a weekly basis. Just to give me an update on what they're doing, how they're doing, are they understanding the story themselves etc.

24. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
Ahahaha as mentioned before I never beta or go back to read my work xD

Never thought about it. Honestly, I don't think it'll work out haha.

26. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
TheParakeet – One of the best with historical fictions~ I really recommend her stories for ya'll~!
sendohime – Whether it's one shots, couple shots, or chaptered. Her stories always hold some kind of message and morals, I love them!
Blu3Wind – Only read one story so far but probably the closest I've come to seeing real idols characteristics being so perfectly applied within the story itself. As a reviewer I often complain about side characters and their importance, but for her story I craved more for each side character.

27. Do you accept prompts?
Prompts used to annoy me, but now I find them to be helpful~

28. Do you take liberties with canon or are you very strict about your fic being canon compliant?
It can go both ways.

30. How do you feel about crack?
Never read one before and will never write one about it. I don't understand the terminologies used in that world/situation.

I believe dub-con helps in angst stories. But I wouldn't want to see it everywhere.

If I have to...or want to, in order to make the story more 'realistic' then yeah.

AFF

34. Talk about a review that made your day.
I had a few reviews done on some of my stories, the one that made my day was one for Dead Wayfarers. Where she talked about how the things I have up in foreword actually helped her and make her view each character as more unique. Rather than being like some where the foreword actually bother them by 'giving away' the story.

35. Write an alternative ending to Dead Wayfarers 2 (or just the summary of one).
For this one, for the readers sake I'm planning to keep the main characters alive. As for the alternative, Seungho and Kyungsoo died in the end together and became dead wayfarers under the enemies.
