Anyone else think JYP set his groups up to fail?
In particular Miss A. This may be the bitter me talking, seeing how their comeback isn't until summer 2015. But hear me out.
You ever notice how Miss A's mini albums aren't in fact called mini-albums? On the albums, there in print, it says project. "Touch: The Fourth Project" "Independent Part III: The Fifth Project" Why projects? If you recall, JB and Jr were referred to as JJ Project, a project group of two boys who then eventually became members of Got7. Why were they called a project? Because it was just something to try out, hit or miss really. Just a one-time idea.
Miss A also debuted at the time when JYP's most famous girl group Wonder Girls went away to America. Was Miss A debuted to fill in the gap until WG came back? Since their debut in 2010, Miss A has not been given a fan color, light stick or reality show. Surely if he saw potential for these girls, he would've invested in these things.
And on the topic of Wonder Girls, why'd he send them to America in the first place? He should've known they wouldn't blow up there and get popular considering he couldn't even get his U.S. JYP trainees a debut date (Min was a former solo singer aiming for debut, and don't even get me started on G Soul, the longest trainee in JYP history). I checked Wonder Girls sales, they weren't even that impressive by today's standards when they decided to leave for America. A viral hit (how viral was it really, Nobody I know has heard the song at its peak) was not enough to guarantee them success. Certainly not on the level of Psy. But even Psy didn't decide to ditch Korea and hightail it to America for a shot at a career. Anyways, I digress, back to the subject.
Fast forward to 2014, and Miss A is still on the back burner. Despite their explosive debut and snatching awards during their first two years, JYP has done little to promote them. Every comeback we get lackluster promotions. Hush didn't even have a second stage and they hardly appeared on any variety shows. They basically were treated like nugus. It's getting to the point now that people are forgetting that they even exist. It's amazing they're even nominated on MAMA this year to be honest.
As I said before, Miss A isn't slated for a comeback until the summer of 2015. So far away! Why? They were supposed to comeback the summer of this year, but because of the Sewol ferry tragedy, and dare I say it? Got7... it didn't happen. So essentially, they're sitting on this song for an entire year until they decide to release it. Apparently it can only be released in the summer... which means the lyrics are seasonal, the outfits are short, and the whole thing runs the risk of sounding dated by the time it's released. JYP says they can't do much until Suzy's movie is done filming in January.
But January to June has a lot of time inbetween. Besides Suzy, there are 3 other members of Miss A in case he forgot: Fei, Jia, Min. Why can't they put out a single in the meantime? Min and Jia have already expressed how they'd love to be a subunit and promote together. Min and Jia are the least active ones in the group, and JYP doesn't even try to find them activities. Min got her hosting gig on her own, and so did Jia with her upcoming movie role. So a subunit would be perfect for Min and Jia to gain more exposure to the Korean public and give us some of that Miss A-inspired music that we're desperately missing.
And what about Min's solo vids? Min shot 3 unofficial music videos with her friends. She did JYP the courtesy of running it through the company instead of just uploading them on Youtube right away. Even though JYP approved one, the vids still have yet to see the light. In hind-sight, Min should've just YOLOed and uploaded the vids anyway. You'd think with the blow of no impending comeback, JYP would at least appease our hearts by giving us SOMETHING.
Miss A's contracts expire in 2017. I won't even be surprised if they decide not to renew. It's been almost 5 years since their debut, and the highlight of their career are their first two years. They haven't had a comeback in over a year, and JYP seems to have no interest in getting their name out there as 4. They lucked up in having Suzy become the it girl that she is, but I guess since Suzy makes the company more money than Miss A, then Miss A isn't a priority anymore.
It's 5AM in the morning, I have yet to sleep, and I have no choice but to sit back and watch my favorite group be failed by their company...
