✪ Divergence ✪ Application - [ (Joey ) Ryu Kwang Jo ]
YOUR BACKGROUND +
I was born in Brisbane, Australia in 1990. My father had studied abroad in Sydney and met my mother who was from Brisbane. They got married in 1987 and had me three years later after moving back to Brisbane, where they opened up a realty company. When I was 4, my father had my grandparents from Korea move in with us; so my grandparents could help care for my newborn sister and relax in relative quietness compared to the big city of Seoul. I had a pretty average upbringing; attended public schools, played sports, practiced the piano three times a week and hung out with my friends listening to music. Of course, can't not bring up checking out the girls at the beaches nearby.
I was 16 when I was approached by a classmate's parents about modeling locally; did a few local gigs; mostly stints wearing tuxes at wedding conventions and similar venues. That led to a few local jobs, but nothing I ever took seriously. Modeling wasn't something I ever considered something to look into; it was like any other part time job a high school student would have. So while I "worked" I kept up with my hobbies playing ball and getting more and more into music. It was around this time when Jason, Mason, other buddies and I would rap/dance/bboy for fun; though I wasn't too into trying to create my own.
Life continued on in that way; I kept modeling and working part time at a buddy's family's restaraunt after graduation - I had no motivation to pursue an education but knew I needed to do something with my life. It wasn't until Jason and family went back to Seoul in 2010, that I ever even thought of pursuing music full-time. It occured to me that if Jason could halt his education to try this whole k-pop world a try, there was nothing stopping me from trying but myself. It took a few months of convincing my mother and almost a year of convincing my father (with the help of my sister -who's a HUGE fan of Jay Park/Big Bang/2NE1 among others-) before he gave in.
I moved to Seoul in the summer of 2012 and lived with and uncle and his family (his wife and their two preteen boys) while I auditioned at a few places. Though I could (sort of) sing, rap and dance, it wasn't good enough to get accepted anywhere. It was then that my uncle suggested I take a few months and get formal lessons. With more convincing, my father agreed to pay for six months (which ended up being more like nine months) of vocal/rap training and dance classes. It was early January of 2013 when there was a rumor going around at the dance school, that the newly-opened AOMG Entertainment Company was seeking boys for a possible boy group. Four of the others in the dance/vocal classes and I decided to audition together.
Finally, official word hit the world that AOMG was holding auditions in March of 2013. Many of my classmates immediately signed up to audition. Once it was my turn, I chose to sing/rap, The Quiett's "The Real Me," and did a some free style dance moves as requested at the audition. In the three weeks after auditions, I almost gave up and went back to Australia. I started thinking that I was too old to be attempting to start a career as an "idol" when most started a lot younger. But it was just a week before my 23rd birthday, when I heard from AOMG and was offered a chance to train at AOMG. I of course took that opportunity and was trained there for 17 months before debut.
YOUR PERSONA +
1. What is your personal saying/motto you try to live by?
-"Don't judge my choices without understanding my reasons."
2. Do you play any instruments?
-I learned as a kid, as many kids do, but since I haven't played in over a decade, I'm no longer very confident.
3. What is/are your "role(s)" in the group? (What are you in "charge" of?) Ex: Aegyo? Omma? Appa? Vitamin? Mood maker? Etc, etc.
-I'd call myself the appa or drill seargent; both works.

+SECOND PART
2. You're at the group's first fan-meet. However, the line for you is noticeably shorter than everyone else's... Some of the other members unknowingly send pitying looks towards your way. How would you feel? React? Think? Do?
-I would feel a little sad for myself, but I'd honestly be proud of my members their hard work to be able to get recognition. I'd also think that I'd need to work harder.
3. The group is at the salon getting ready for a filimg of a variety show. You lost the bet in the van and have to go next door to get coffee/other drinks for everone. While walking into the cafe, one of the hot, a-list idol/actresses (let's say Suzy) bumps into you on her way out. You both apologize, do quick greetings and go on your way. However, her group member (let's say Jia; who saw everything and who also happens to be filming with you and your members later) accuses you of having hit on Suzy... which everyone believes and a scandal starts. What's your first reaction? What do you do?
-I'd laugh it off and probably jokingly ask Jia to "help a brother out" by getting me her number. But of course, clarify that it was just a joke and explain that I feel honored to have my name connected with hers, even in this circumstance. But that my priority at the moment wasn't dating, but was to focus on Divergence.
