As an Author:

1. I am not putting everyone into this catagory, but I feel like I need to say this

2. This only applies to a small group of people, but the number of people that this applies to is growing

  •  Authors who take their stories down don't care about their readers
-I'm not speaking for all authors, but I hella care about my readers. I want y'all to enjoy what I'm putting out there. I don't get paid, I will never get paid for writing fanfics, I WILL NEVER post a fic and then 4 chapters in say "To find out what happens you have to go and buy it".
    - I ask for opinions, and if I feel people would rather read a few chapters of story "X" rather than story "Y" I will work on it first. I haven't abandoned something just because I haven't updated this week. I have a life outside of AFF, and I'm sorry that when I get home I don't always want to spend hours writing fanfiction for others.

  • Authors who say "comment, subscribe and upvote" are just after popularity.

    - I do ask for comments. I will admit. BUT I reply to every single comment I do get. Even if it is just an "update soon".

    - I don't ask you to subscribe, you chose to do that. Yes my fanfics are majorly Subscriber Only, but that's my choice not to make my fanfics available for Tom and Harry to plagerize. It helps me control and see who is reading.
-I don't ask for upvotes. I thank those who have upvoted at the end of every chapter (practically). I go back and update the list on oneshots when I see more people have upvoted. I don't get notifications "XXXX has upvoted your story "X"" I don't always see straight away. I appreciate every upvote I get.
-In my opinion, there are authors who are just after popularity, all they want is to get featured. I'd rather not get featured and have 100 people read my story and enjoy it than have 500 who really don't care.

  • Authors really don't care if we read their fics or not

-Okay so then why are authors writing and putting their fanfics online? If they don't care would it not be better for them to just keep them in the recesses of their laptops, desktops, and tablets? Why waste time formatting, spell checking, and fixing up stories, if authors don't care?
I know I struggle with remembering which story everyone is subscribed to- but I have 40-ish fics, and over 4,300 subscribers and it isn't plausible for me to remember every single one of you just because you are subscribed. It's easier if I have something to associate with your username, like a comment. If you can memorise which story over 4000 people have or haven't subbed to then I will put my hands up and admit you're better than me, because I can't do that.

Yes this is a bit of a rant. But I'm just kind of sick of the immaturity of some people. Authors really don't owe you updates. Yeah it can be irritating when you have to wait for an update, but for god's sake it up.

The last one I don't understand how people can think that O_o Like you said if we didn't care about readers then why post them online working our butts off to make sure every chapter is great in the first place? *shakes head* And the subscribers only bashing going on really gets to me: If we private our fics in any way, some morons on here think we're doing it to get more subscribers or readers or they 'feel forced to subscribe' X'3 Yeah don't ask about the last part I don't get it myself.

I've read really good stories that haven't been updated in a month or a year but I'm still understanding that not every author is capable of updating every single day. Sure, sometimes I can update like crazy but things happen in life that stops us from updating for a while. Deal with it is what they need to do.

Thanks for speaking up about users who act like that on here ^^ Some can be a bit rude about certain stuff

Author-nim, you deserve a hug :D
I'm not a ficwriter myself, but I imagine how bad it is to have people asking for updates every week.
I posted about authors dropping fics just this morning! Another fic I was reading were deleted TT_TT That made me really sad. The auhtor didn't give any notification.
Usually I don't ask for updates, only when some time has passed since the last update and I'm really into the story.
Readers need to respect the author's pace to write, right? I always ask for "updates asap", is that rude? Please tell me because I write that in almost every story I read and I don't really want to be seem like one of these readers who doesn't respect the authors.
