So...what does being friends do here?? (I mean, besides the obvious you're cool, let's add each other.) I have all these friend requests, and I have no idea who most of the people are, and I'm wondering why they want to add me.

The reasons why i added u r 1. I like ur writing n story 2. I find u r friendly n care to reply all the comments 3.i feel like talking to u. Thats it :-P i also hv no idea why some ppl add me..im not writer n i do nothing here..lol..anyway u r cool hon :-D
If you're friends with writers (people who actually write more so than read), then it'll notify you if they've posted a new story-- not updates, a new story. If you scroll through the tags, then you'll notice the difference in font color-- but that'll only show up if they write more than they read. Readers will just know if you post a new story. I'm not sure if this still applies now since AFF keeps changing its layout and coding, but this is what usually happens.

what I cant understand is that after I accept their friend request..they never talk.. =_='
why add when you wont talk right ??
Because I admire your works, technically, I admire you. so I think most of people whom you don't know (at least yet) just want to add you, even if we are barely talk :) I hope that's a good enough reason
good question. trust me...i'm still wondering the reason/meaning behind it myself especially when people have this thing to add you randomly without having anything to say/talk before n after they add you. good luck on finding the answer to mystery of affuniverse.
I don't know either. Honestly I only add people if I talk to them on the messenger thing or outside of comments on fics. I believe you get notifications when a "friend" posts things but that's about it.
