A permanent smile | No matter what time it is, where she is, what she's doing, or who she's with, Miyeon always has a smile plastered on her face. This is an exterior that makes her be foolish, clumsy and childlike. "Smile and make others smile" is what she lives by. Miyeon hates depressed and sad moments, hence she'd do anything to put a smile on others' faces. She believes that smiling will make others smiles, which is why she never keeps on a sulky face for long. With this side of hers, people believe that she's oblivious and sometime even dumb, but what can one know. Miyeon has always been one of the smartest kid of the school as she grew up, never letting her top 3 position out of her hands. 

An obedient yet stubborn child | Oh Park Miyeon. Everything she does has to be her own way. Once she gets her mind set on something, almost nothing can stop her from doing what she likes. However, as much as she stands strong on her grounds, Miyeon never fails to showcase her love for her parents, although she does have a few disputes with her mother here and there; especially regarding her future. As much as she wants to make her family happy, she doesn't exactly know where to start or what to do. This side is a big secret that no one knows, aside from her best friend. Miyeon doesn't like the idea to look like a weak girl, hence her happy cover. Although she often doubts herself, Miyeon never shows her weakness to outsiders. It's a fear of letting knows that she's scared. In other words, Miyeon brainwashes herself with a happy aura that she has no insecurities, although deep inside herself she knows exactly that she's fearing.

A side to please | Being born as an only child, Miyeon gets the pressure to please both her parents. She didn't have her intelligent skills at the beggining, it's called working hard and achieving her goals. Miyeon doesn't have any dream job, she just was to work hard and show her parents what she has done. The idea of discontent on her parents face makes her feel little, although she'd often argue with her mother. She believes that studying hard and getting the top grades are enough to make her parents happy. With this image, Miyeon is seen as the perfect daughter.

A thickhead | Going against Miyeon is a mistake. Although she's a happy-go-luck girl, she always strongly stands by her ideas. It is very rare to see her change minds, or even having second thoughts. If you ever do convince her, wow, you're a genius. Miyeon can easily express her likes and her dislikes, with her blunt attitude. Being known as the bright girl, people sometime misunderstands her because whethere she's mad or agitated, she'll have a smile on her face quickly after.

Nothing's perfect | Miyeon's parents' love story started from an arranged marriage, though even today, you can't really call it love. They met through relatives and their parents eventually agreed to put them together in order to have a more stable financial income. Back in the days, a single woman wasn't seen greatly, hence Yeobin agreeing on the best man she could get through meetings. A few years before their marriage, Yeobin's family was indeed rich, however due to bankruptcy, their wealth shattered. On the other hand, Hyunjae comes from a respectable family. The only problem; he's the type to give in more to his siblings than invest in his small family, which brought to the married couples' heated arguments. Even after 20 years or marriage, both parents still often argue. Despite often disagreeing, Hyunjae and Yeobin stay together for one thing, or well, one person; Miyeon. From young age, she saw her parents being at each other's throat, although they try as much as possible to act as good parents in front of her, but instead Miyeon would blame herself for their misfortune. One could say that her insecure side came from seeing her parents' arguments a little too often, hence being scared of failing herself, or might as well feeling guilty about their fights so she'd work hard to please them. 

They started from scratch | Back in Busan, they started in the middle class at first, but being the hard working woman she as, Yeobin opened a convenience store. Despite having the store, Hyunjae and Yeobin always take different shifts, avoiding each other during the day. Slowly climbing up the ladder, they got to buy another local store in the capital city of Korea, which brought them to where they are now. Having more revenue than they used to, Miyeon gets to treat herself once in a while.

It just wasn't the best | Miyeon, since kindergarden, always had to work hard in order to get praised by the teacher. Being the only child her parents have, she does what she's the best at; studying. Frequenting elite schools costs the family a lot for her education, so in return Miyeon believes that studying hard and getting good grades are a way to pay her parents back. Despite having a brilliant mind, Miyeon doesn't know what to do even with her outstanding brain. Finding the coffee shop might have changed her mind. Although she often had the idea to work for bigger companies, something, or rather someone seems to hold her back. It's not because of wealth, but simply relationship.

Cliche; their rivalry is due to one person; Jung Jinyoung. Sure, Jinyoung has his eyes now on Miyeon, but that won't erase his past with Haneul. A few years back, when Jinyoung was still a mere high school senior, he had a tutor and that happened to be Haneul. They dated for half a year before Jinyoung called it off due to their incompability, but that didn't stop Haneul's feeling toward the younger male. Even 5 years later, Haneul keeps her eyes on him, which caused her to have bitter feelings toward Miyeon. Hence, the two girls are fighting or the love of one boy.
 

interactions —

On one hand, Miyeon doesn't feel much confident when she faces Haneul. First, Haneul was pretty and mature. Second, Jinyoung and Haneul actually had a past together! Despite feeling insecure with the older woman, that won't stop Miyeon from crushing on Jinyoung although they bicker most of the time.

To be honest, Haneul's the one to create the drama here. Because of her on-going one-sided feelings toward Jinyoung, Haneul would do anything to get him back; just like how her personality tells her to never give up. She'd often use their past relationship to show off and tell Miyeon to back off. Because Haneul is someone who's being successful in her life, while Miyeon is still indecisive about her future, Miyeon feels the pressure whenever she sees the older girl. Sometimes, she'd even doubt about her feelings toward Jinyoung because of her lack of decisions making about her own life.

The oh-so-typical rich guy falls for poor girl love stoy, although Miyeon isn't dirt poor, but simply from a middle class family. The two first met when Miyeon got a tour around Jinyoung's parents company when they wanted to recruit her into their management team. Despite having no interest, she still went out of politeness to see if she could possibly like this idea of working in a big corporate. Despite being the first time meeting, Jinyoung acted foolishly toward the younger girl by playing with her hair and intentionally bumping on her while they walked around the tour. That day, Miyeon was glad the visit was quick, she was sure she didn't want to see him again. However, to her dismay, their story doesn't just stop there. When Miyeon was finally accepted in a bakera job, not long after, Jinyoung joined in and would poke fun at her everyday. Little did both know that these playful tactics would make them fall for each other as days pass by.

Well, a playful couple is obviously playful. Before their relationship, pranks will be pulled on each other every day. Jinyoung especially likes to tease Miyeon with her name as it sounds like "myun" (different meanings: If | Shape side | Face | Cotton | Mask | Page). Although often mistaken to be a couple, they'd strongly deny it, hiding their attraction for the other. As childish as they can be, they'd never take a break from teasing each other. Even if Jinyoung likes to play around Miyeon, he's quite an observant guy; he knows that Miyeon doesn't feel good and would make sure to cheer her up. Jinyoung might be someone who jokes around a lot, but toward Miyeon, he'd give her his everything.

After their relationship, the jokes won't stop, but their affection for each other only grows bigger. Jinyoung makes sure to point out details and surprises Miyeon with cheesy gifts. On the other hand, Miyeon puts her trust in Jinyoung, glad to have found someone she can rely on. However, even until all this while, Jinyoung gets wary of Miyeon's older male friend, Bohyung, although they share nothing else than pure platonic sibling love.

Having known Jinyoung longer, Jihae takes the advantages of his old love to make Miyeon insecure about her feelings toward the boy.

Obviously, the rich mother always had to intefer. As much as she loves Miyeon's bright capabilities, she expected her son to look for someone from similar wealthy background. Jinyoung's mother would try to sabotage their relationship, simply for the image, although her husband doesn't seem to mind his son's love story.
