here are some pokemon found in the kalos region, you can refer to this for ideas for pokemon

Karma
experience
He likes to bond and improve his teamwork by joing competitions and grand festivals. The competiton he's joined are: Pokemon Super Contest, Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition, Club Battle and Clubspolosion. He's completed the Kanto and Johto league although he hopes to do more. Karma also has battled at the Battle Tower and has won there several times. He usually goes there to train.

He will seem passive at first but as the game goes on he begins getting more aggressive. He never starts aggressive from the start.

personality
start here: Charizard is a lazy pokemon. He listens well to Karma and not to anyone else other than him. He is Karma's closest friend and pokemon. Charizard also understands his trainer very well and they are able to communicate with simple gestures while battling.

*Starter pokemon he was given by Professor Oak.
*It was a Charmander that had become a Charizard.
*Charizard is out most of the time and is used for flying a lot of the time.
*A habit of charizard is picking on other pokemon.

Shiny Gyarados

personality
Gyrados usually has a bad temper. It is very aggressive in battles and intimidating. Although it also understands Karma well and is close enough to be able to understand his simple gestures. She can be stubborn at times, but in battle always listens to her trainer.

*Found it at the ocean near the land.

*She enjoys Karma's company.
*Can be very protective towards Karma and is wary of other trainers.

Pumpkaboo is a very mysterious pokemon. He often likes to get into mischief and is very playful. Pumpkaboo also enjoys pranking others, whether that be pokemon or trainers. He will usually prank on others when Karma isn't paying attention.

*He'll find it in a forest at night.
*Remains a Pumpkaboo
*Pumpkaboo pretends to behave but is secretly causing trouble without Karma knowing. When pranking he'll usually hide so others don't figure out his identity. He has never been caught and no one suspects Karma because Gourgeist is hidden before coming back to his side.
*His habit is pranking.

Bastiodon

personality
Is a calm-natured pokemon. Bastiodon is very obedient and is kind to humans and pokemon alike. He likes when he is given berries or any other kind of food. A very patient pokemon. Very adaptable.

*Already evolved when found.
*He is a good pokemon with or without Karma, but since Karma is his trainer, he treats him kinder and clearly loves him more than other trainers even if he is kind.
*Likes to socialize with other pokemon

personality
Floette is always seeking attention. She can act a bit spoiled at times if she isn't given what she wants. (Berries for example.) Doesn't get along well with other pokemon because of her habit of not wanting to share. Is especially clingy to Karma, often jealous of other girl trainers if they get too close.

Found in a forest during the day at Kalos.
Becomes florges
*Can act rashly towards other trainer and pokemon. Doesn't like sharing Karma, but Karma doesn't seem to noticed too much.
*Habit is: Doesn't like sharing.

personality
He's quiet and doesn't interact very much. Mismagius doesn't cause any trouble and watches other his fellow pokemon teammates.

In a haunted house Karma had to do a mission for.
Was a misdreavus, evoled to mismagius.

So every pokemon after Gyarados is one that I had planned to be caught in Kalos. You don't need to make a scene for every one of them, but just to explain things a bit Charizard and Gyarados are his two most trusted pokemon he's brought over from his hometown.
As for the love interest, I hope you could make her appear from time to time if they coincidentally run into each other during the journey. ^.^
