Subscribers

It's one thing that's always had me curious- what makes someone subscribe to a story? I mean, even I'm guilty of it- I read a story that I find really interesting and then I just don't bother to click the subscribe button even though I'm dying to know what happens next. Or people might subscribe and never actually read it again. Or they might unsubscribe later (yes, I am still a bit upset that I lost a subscriber).

So what I guess I'm wondering is, what do you have to do to draw subscribers to a story? And does it even really matter how many subscribers you have?

I myself am worry about subscribers but I think that comments are more important. In my case, I have a good amount of subscribers but there are no comments. That makes me really said. Without comments I feel empty and feel like no one really read my story. I was very disapointed at the fact that I really try to reach out to subscriber and talk to them but they don't reply back. Somehow a little disrespect to me.

Subscribers do matter, but I don't think people in here appreciate real work. I may sound pissed off in here, but you wouldn't get many subscribers in your story unless you include EXO, SHINee, Super Junior, Infinite, Teen Top, or DBSK. Stories that have famous idols tend to be liked by more people in here. And your plot is important too, maybe a story about love? And lastly, moderate talent in writing. The best stories are always underrated, not many bother about bad stories. Just review those which are featured and you'll get what I mean. It's good to get many subscribers but I just want to write a good story.

Subscriber are like motivation to author. They show the author that her/his story is actually read by people. Besides It's give the author karma, not much but it did. And btw If you subscribe, you'll get an alert when the author update.

Thanks for your opinions guys! I was just wondering what other people thought of the matter.
I was also wondering how the whole viewcount thing works. I swear, most of the views on my story are mine. >.>

i do all of the above, too >.>. i subscribe if i think the author has talent, if i like the story, and if it looks like they'll update on a regular basis. losing subscribers would make me sad, too, so i won't subscribe from the start unless i'm sure i want to keep reading it/ getting notifications from it XD

and the number of subscribers doesn't matter at all, because sometimes, it doesn't really indicate how good a story is :( some stories have tons (for which i can't understand why) and then there are clearly some good ones (coughstochaseahopelessdream) that clearly deserve more =\

It feels nice to have subscribers, I myself have lost one, which was disappointing but I got over it when I got a new one. It's also pretty pleasant to get online and find that you have more subscribers, it makes you feel like someone actually appreciates you're work, although like you mentioned many just subscribe to things they won't read again. I'm a pretty selective reader so if I subscribe I read to the end.

I also think it has more value when subscribers actually comment ...

I subscribe to a story if it is well written and interesting but I guess that's vague and debatable to tastes ... oh and if I see that they have updated recently.
