And here this trailer-maker vents.
So here's why I really went on that hiatus.
When Fiction's Trance was first opened, I didn't realise so many people would actually want trailers. So for each request, I happily made the video. While slowly honing my amateur skills, I didn't think much about the consequences of putting in that much effort into trailers for other people's stories. It was fine at first.
Then one by one the stories got deleted.
Trailers weren't picked up.
Authors disappeared.
It when you made the trailer to complement a story that no longer exists. More than that, it to feel underappreciated.
But then I realised how idiotic it was to expect so much from strangers. On the internet, no less.
Why would I make these videos to appease people I don't know?
So now, why not make these videos simply to appease myself? I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi, so I welcome anyone with such stories. This way, if the author disappears into thin air, I'd still have enjoyed my time on the video anyway. No more unnecessary dissatisfaction. If anyone else enjoys it with me, then that's just a lovely bonus.
:)
(A little nod to the writers as well, write for yourself and not for anyone else. It's not an exam, it's AFF. To get to visualise your own fantasies, that's the dream. Everything else is a perk.)
