Would it be disrespectful if I wrote a fic on the Sewol tragedy??

So I'm planning on entering this writing contest and the prompts were boxes, screams, wet, and spirit and I immediately thought of that incident. Would it be disrespectful to write a fanfic about it? I mean, I did my research and I'm not intending to offend anyone--in fact I sort of teared up about it haha-- would that be okay?? I'm just not sure so I need opinions. Please?? I want to get started ahaha

I understand your intentions but I think it is still to early to write anything about a sinking ship. Maybe wait a little bit.

I highly suggest you don't. There are so many other plots and story lines that can be made from those prompts.

Someone wrote a fic about the sinking already. They took it down from the overwhelming negative response of AFF users, so no, you shouldn't.

Well, personally, I wouldn't. It's a horrible tragedy, and the country is still in mourning over it. I think you could just as well write about a similar, fictionalized incident. You can still incorporate your research, but you wouldn't run the risk of triggering anything. Think of it like the novel Room - strongly based on true events, but still a fictional story that is unlikely to be read as disrespectful or unsympathetic.
