Book advice pls?

Okay, so it's coming up to my 18th birthday, and being the bookworm that i am, ive told my nan to get me some books.
But at the moment i'm not sure what to get, so does anybody have any recommendations?
I like dark fantasy, action, such as the mortal intruments, Game of thrones etc.

I haven't read it for a while but the book name has always stuck with me. I withdrew it from a library. I'd suggest reading The Magician's Apprentice by Trudi Canavan, and perhaps its related trilogy. They're all fantasy.
