Gimp Help T^T

So lately, I've just been playing with GIMP making posters and whatnot because my life is boring. It worked the first couple of days when i gotten the hang of it, but now it , it hates me, and it refuses to work. I don't know why, but it just wont work like it used too. Example below:

Ohhhh so pretty, right?

And Then...

Add image of Jongin and then i circle thingyed it, then invert deleted that

AND EVERY ING TIME, IT ENDS UP LIKE THIS. EVERY. SINGAL. TIME.

EVEN WHEN I ERASE IT

EVEN WHEN I DO THE IMAGES FIRST, THEN THE BACKGROUND

IM SO ANGER.

SERIOUSLY HELP.

ONLY SOME IMAGES OUT OF THE ONES I PICK WORK 5% OF THE TIME.

HELP.

IM DESPREATE?

IM SO DESPREATE I CANT SPELL RIGHT TODAY

Oh! And the reason why some images already work are because of the file type.
Usually .png images are already transparent, so you don't need to add an alpha layer. However, .jpg and .jpeg images aren't transparent, therefore, you have to add an alpha channel. There are other types of images too but usually these are common.

ADD AN ALPHA CHANNEL. SORRY I'M TYPING IN ALL CAPS BUT WHEN I FIRST STARTES USING GIMP, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME OMG.
Okay, when you drop an image, go over to your layer view thing - where you can see all of the different layers you have. Just right click on the image you dropped (aka your jongin image) and click ADD ALPHA CHANNEL.
OR
You can go to the top option bar thing (I'M BAD WITH NAMES, DON'T JUDGE ME) and click layers > transparency > add alpha channel (I'm pretty sure that's how you do it - I'm not looking at GIMP right now!).
ANYWAYS, YES ALPHA CHANNELS ARE SO IMPORTANT. EVEN WHEN YOU ERASE, EVERYTHING IS WHITE, LIKE WHAT THE HECKIE I DIDN'T ASK FOR THIS.
btw i don't recommend layer masks until you're pretty or really good at blending because for me that shiz can get difficult and I've been doing this about 8 months now. BUT if you look up different tutorials here on AFF, it could be easier for you!!
Again, sorry for typing in all caps! I know how frustrating your issue was for me AND I HAD TO SHARE THE GOOD NEWS ASAP

You could try download a cracked version of Photoshop CC? It works wonders, I've been using it since my CS5 was deleted off my laptop. I've mostly been using it as a form of procrastination and I managed to create some posters for two of my fics (Looking Back & Blande Food). I would highly reccommend using it.

maybe you can ask MusicChibi for help? I think she uses gimp for her posters...
