Plagiarism Opinions

So, I'm subscribed to a lot of fanfics, and I have noticed lately a lot of people are posting things about their stories being plagiarised. These authors even go so far to say that they are considering stopping with their writing, their stories, and to me, this is the wrong way of going about it. I understand some people will have a different opinion of such situaitons, but I guess I've never really thought about it all that much until now.

I have some experience with this, I've noticed certain.....clearly non-coincidental similarities between my stories and someone else's as I browse for new things to read. But the thing is, I don't care *too* much. I wish they would credit me for the idea, I don't really care if they *tell* me, per say, but I do want to be credited for ideas. I don't mind people doing spin-offs, continuations, or borrowing worlds and even certain scenes so long as they are in their own words and they credit me. What I *do* mind is people who have A. Copied word for word what I've written and re-posted it claiming to be their own. B. Clearly taken my exact story and gone through and changed just a couple things, names, or one certain scene. C. Don't credit me for the idea.

It is irritating to have my work 'redone' for someone else to get views and subs, and fame, etc., while I don't. At the same time, this is fanfiction - just like any other kind of fanfiction we are borrowing from the lives of kpop idols, their personalities, etc. Not always, sometimes the only similarities are the names, but not always. Fanfiction is essentially taking something someone has already done and making it our own. So I think it's a teensy bit hypocritcal of *some* people to get upset over very teensy little similarities. So I think there needs to be a firmer line of what exactly Plagiarism is, versus taking creative influence.

Giving up on your story is letting them win. If someone has truly stolen your story, let your readers know, let the site know, let *them* know. Fight the war :P But anyways, this is also a notice to people to just go ahead and do any spin off, continuation, or whatever with my story as long as you credit me :D You don't *have* to tell me, but I wouldn't mind reading it <3

Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I just don't want to see the authors I like give up in the middle of a story....
