Bathrooms

bathrooms.

story by -pieces -

Soojung sighed as she set her bucket of cleaning chemical death on the white tiled floor of her bathroom. Grabbing the bottle of green powder entitled "Comet" and an ugly floral sponge her sister had bought at the mexican grocery store down the street, she the tap in the bath tub and sprinkled water all over the tub. She then proceeded to pour a random amount of powder all over the tub. She shrugged and put the powder back into the bucket, taking a seat with her back resting on the tub. As she waited for the powder to do whatever the hell it needed to so that the tub could be clean, she texted Jinri about the hell she considered high school.

Five or so minutes later, Soojung peeked over the side of the tub and checked to see if the tub looked ready for scrubbing. Thinking it was suitable enough, she placed her phone on the far counter, put her gloves on and grabbed the stupid sponge. Her older sister Sooyeon came in at that moment and laughed as she watched her sister scrubbing away at the tub. Soojung glared back at her sister before continuing her work.

As she continued her vigorous scrubbing, Soojung thought about what she might have done in one of her pasts lives to ever deserve such torture as cleaning a bathroom. Like, what kind of cruel, heinous thing must her past lives have done to make the Jung Soojung of today have to scrub a bath tub until it was as pearly white as her teeth? Adultry? Gambling? Murder? All of the above, she grumbled.

But she never really believed in the existence of eternity in a person's soul. There was no such thing as rebirth, like wasn't one life on this hellish earth enough to live? How does one even think of rebirth, anyways? Could she posssibly have been a turtle? Or maybe she wasn't even a creature in her latest past life, maybe she was just a simple banana that only lived to be consumed by some filthy wild animal or shipped off to be consumed by some hungry or maybe hormonal teenage girl. There was an infinite amount of possibilites that could have come from her past lives, had she chosen to belive in the possibility of past lives.

What made Soojung even question the possibilty of past lives in the first place? What did religion tell her to believe in? Did she even care about what she was supposed to believe in? Or could she just believe in whatever the hell she wanted to because she really wasn't that into focusing on a religion when she often questioned the very foundation of the creation of all sorts of religions. Who made all these religions up in the first place and which was real? Curse the curiosity that made her too confused all the time.

"Earth to Shoe Junk!" Soojung snapped out of her thoughts and turned to face her sister.

"What."

"Have you been listening to me?" Sooyeon inquired. Soojung simply shook her head "no," and turned back around to finish up her tub scrubbing. She realized that while she was in her daze of questions and curiosities, the tub had been scrubbed into the shiny, bright white that it had been when she first saw the tub. She heard her sister scoff and walk out the door. And to think, the reason behind her questioning life and deep thought was cleaning bathrooms.
