The Shan State and its people

Shan State is a state of Burma (Myanmar). Shan State borders China to the north, Laos to the east, and Thailand to the south, and five administrative divisions of Burma in the west. Largest of the 14 administrative divisions by land area, Shan State covers 155,800 km², almost a quarter of the total area of Burma. The state gets its name from the Shan people, one of several ethnic groups that inhabit the area. Shan State is largely rural, with only three cities of significant size: LashioKengtung, and the capital, Taunggyi

The Shan are a Tai ethnic group of Southeast Asia. The Shan live primarily in the Shan State of Burma (Myanmar), but also inhabit parts of Mandalay DivisionKachin State, and Kayin State, and in adjacent regions of China and Thailand. Though no reliable census has been taken in Burma since 1935, the Shan are estimated to number approximately 6 million.

This is from wiki but basically, the real word for my people is 'Tai' (you kinda pronounce it with a 'd' sound [i.e. "Dtai] don't mistake it for 'Thai'), however the language is similarly to Thai. It is completely different from Burmese. 'Shan' is the Burmese term but it means the same thing.

Therefore, my nationality is 'Tai'. In the past, I have said 'Thai' to cut conversations short. But because my long term goal in life is to give my people back their identity, I figured I had to start somewhere...

So, this was just for anyone who was interested xP
