For Every Reader Out There

Dear Readers:

Imagine yourself typing on a computer with crumpled papers lying all around you. You've been working at it for hours but you've finally overcome the cursed thing called writer's block. Better yet, you've also defeated the difficulties of wording exactly how you want each scene to happen.  One chapter, around 5000 words. It took you 6 hours (spread into two days) to finish it. Just to make your story will be a little more enjoyable to all the potential readers, you go from page one to the last one. Doubts, errors...and doubts. I wonder if they'll like this part with his humors reply and her little prank? What if they don't like this part? Is this even good? What was I thinking? Hundreds of pessimistic questions start to form in your mind, nonetheless you post the story because you've dedicated  your time and effort to it, so let the readers have at it. After posting it you head straight to bed. It is after all already two thirty in the morning. And you still have work to do in the morning.

When you wake up, the first thing you do is open up the AFF because you want to check the comments. Your breath hitch, your heart beats a little faster as you click on the orange link reading the words "story comment." Now ask yourself what kind of feedbacks would you like to receive? Nothing? Update soon? Or something a little more meaningful that actually talks about the content of the story you wrote or maybe a suggestion as to how to improve your writing (constructive criticism not bashing).

As you finish imagining the scene I have provided I would like to point out it can't be stressed enough how much a comment means to a author. Regardless of what you leave behind for the author to read, it's still highly appreciated. As a writer myself, after making a update I look forward to reading on what you thought about the whole story and the little things such as how the male lead choose to confess to the female lead. As much as most writers would like to say they are only writing out of hobby, I believe at least one fourth of the reasons why we write is to see what you think. Albeit for me it's about 35% of the reason why I want to write. Keep in mind if feedbacks weren't needed, then there's no real need to post the stories on AFF. Right?

For those of you that have read story on AFF, I would like to thank each and every one of you for all the stories you have given a chance. For those of you that have left a comment. Even better, thank you so much for showing your support. For those of you that have left a feedback more than something along the lines of update soon <3, or commenting longer than 10 words then kudos to you. Your words of encouragement has motivated and helped that author to find a need to improve their writing and update the story more often.

Some have mentioned you are relcutant to comment is because English is not your first language, so you might be shy or not self confident in the language. But as long as you get the message across what does it matter if you spelled a word wrong or wrote an incompete sentence? Please keep in mind I am not suggesting you have to comment on every little detail in the story or that you always have to provide a long comment. I'm saying anything is better than nothing.

So please when you finish reading a story, take your time leave a thought behind because a comment is like the food we need to eat to have energy.  It'll take less than five minutes. Your five minutes for a 10 page update, which who knows how long the writer spent on it. Sounds like a worth-while deal. Thank You.

Sincerely,

Comments

I understand how you feel. Although I only point out the good point in your story, I will try to point out what I do not like too.

I think a good rule of thumb for comments is 1 part critical and two parts positive. :)
