Let's Keep it Simple

Some people won't ever know good literature even if it hits them in their ing face.

I have the strong urge to throw Shakespeare's Sonnets at them, or maybe even Poe's short stories.

And I'm so utterly fed up with this damned site and it's damned voting ery.

So anyway don't be discouraged by the small number of comments because at the end of the day would it really change anything? Many people say “don’t expect many comments and write for yourself” but I don’t agree with them. If you would be writing for yourself you wouldn’t be posting it obviously. You share it with people for them to enjoy it and share their views on it with you. But most of the comments is simple with only one line. So would it really make you feel that much better? I know that even a simple text like “I like your story <3” can give real happiness but you should know that there are many people who enjoy your story in silence. I am sorry that you do not have that kind of recognition that you think you deserve (and frankly I agree with you) but you should realize that this is the fault of this site but people in general. On whatever site you would post it the outcome may be the same. I am not an author as I am too afraid to put myself out there for people to judge my work but I feel that a few people who really appreciate your story is worth more than thousands who read but don’t understand its depth. And don't throw Poe at someone who won't be able to understand his works . Although I am not a fan of William Shakespeare so maybe you should throw his sonnets at me ;) I posted it in parts because of word limit. I feel like I talked too much… Well once I start you can’t stop me.

I really understand your anger. And I know that I annoy authors even more because I am a silent reader. I rarely ever comment on the stories even though I read many of them and I appreciate the effort put into the writing process. Why don't I comment? I don't know. Most of the time I just don't feel like it. I always read stuff (either fanfics, books or whatever) on my iPhone so it is not very comfortable to write an elaborate comment and I think that leaving something like "update soon" is really meaningless. It doesn't tell the author how exactly their story made me feel during the lecture. I always look for fics that have an interesting plot as I am a little too old and mature for a only (or at least that is what I like to think) and I want to see the relationship develop accordingly to how it is happening in real life and not "Hi my name is Hyukjae and I am going to you" because if that was to happen in real life the guy would have to collect his teeth from the floor. What makes the story beautiful and worthwhile is the way it manipulates your emotions and how does it make you feel about the whole world. It is brilliant art when it makes you question various aspects of your life and makes your mind more open to different views on the same subject. I love pieces that give me the insight into the process of thinking of different types of people. And I also feel aggravated when I see that a quite amazing story like yours gets lost in the sea of rather ty ones that get recognized even though I don't know why people like something of such low standards. We cannot say however that there aren't any good stories that got appreciated on this site but the proportions are quite alarming.

Aff is mostly about young girls upvoting and reading whatever story their bias is on regardless of the quality, i think not many readers search for that and can even appreciate a well written story with a good layout and depth in their characters (although i admit everybody sometimes reads a story for the lovable cliches not caring about the quality). Upvoting is a favoritism system and the pushy advertising stuff and all that jazz.
