Writers on Asian Fan Fic

****warning, this is going to be a rant!****

I admit, I’m not a popular author and I haven’t made a name for myself yet so I get that I don’t have the right to say such thing but honestly this issue keeps burdening me. This issue isn’t really an issue; I don’t exactly know what to call it so let’s just say an “issue”.  It may not interfere with most readers on the site, but I thought I must blog about this and vent my fustration. As an author I have a different way’s of writing, and I respect everyone’s work and stories. But there’s always that one story that turns you off when you read the first few paragraphs of the story.

Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who feels this way; that stops reading a fic because it is badly written. I know it’s mean but there’s nothing we can do about it that makes us want to read, we can’t compel to our likings. But I want to describe the type of stories I hate and prevent me from reading further on, that make me want to close the tab, such as;

- How quickly settings are changed; So last night I finished an amazing fan fic the type that makes me change the perspectives of the idols in the story. Then this morning I started to read another fic and I stopped before I could read the next chapter. For example; the main character went from living in America, to transferring to Korea. It’s like yeah sure that’s the plot of the story, that’s how they are ment to meet the love of their lives. However, in this particular fic the father told his daughter she is moving to America to Korea, and the plane is in an hour. LIKE WTFTFTFTFTFTFTFTFTF?!?!?!?!??!?! An hour???????? Like the main character is ment to drop her whole life in America and move to Korea so soon? Like isn’t that too soon? An hour? A bit not realistic isn’t it? I don’t get how people like this?

-The second thing I hate is how unrealistic things are; I can’t explain what it is, or the exact word for it but I guess but take this as an example; I was reading a fic ages ago when in the fic the main character and her best friend (they are rich by the way) went to the mall to shop. But they went through this secret passage way where only rich people go in, and to get in you have to use a pass. I don’t know what it has about it, but it annoys me! Like there’s something wrong with that and I just can’t put my finger on it. It’s not just this but there are different unrealistic things. Some unrealistic things are ment to happen to a fic, like it’s just a story its just a fiction but there’s definitely something wrong with what I just pointed out and I can’t put my finger on it.

-Last and for most; it’s not really a rant about other fics but more about me. I just forgot what my last rant is and decided to write something completely different. I always wanted to see if people actually hate this, something I always wanted to see. But don’t you hate starting a new fic all over again. Because you just finished an amazing fic and you know for sure it won’t be as good as the last fic but you read it because you have read the good comments below. Or because you just can’t be bothered reading how the two characters hate each other, you just want to skip to the characters getting together in the end. Is it just me or do you feel the same? Please don’t make me look crazy here hahahahah.

So overall, I have read a lot of stories that have me at the edge of my feet throughout the story. There are also stories where I have read the first chapter and gone, “nup, don’t like it”. I know most of what I said is about “realism” and I know this is all meant to be fiction, but there is something about that makes me cringe. Some readers go to the certain extent when it comes to unrealistic views. I personally think this is just me who thinks like this, as we all know everyone is different. And every story will have people that will like their fic or not, so you personally may think differently from me. Which I honestly find weird, but you may find me weird. Personally I like fan fics that are realistic, that are well written and have a different story line from others. I love it how the author goes in depth with their description, I love it how they get so lost into their own description!

Anyways that’s my rant, I had to rant this out, so sorry! But please, please tell me what you think, what you think of some writers on this site, are they being board, or you actually enjoy reading those kind of fics?

That's how my first fic went, was a noob before. Yes, I admit it. lol. I think best stories are those you can apply in reality, or rather where you can possibly see in real life. Real possibilities, real occurrences, something that the reader can see in their life, possible future or whatever.

okay forgive me, what am I talking about anyway? LOL, but I do get your point.

I agree with you~
And I have to admit that I may write the scenes going a bit too fast. But I work on that... :)

(^ Was that even English??)

I totally understand you.
I'm so picky about what fanfics I read and it's so difficult for me to find a fanfic that I completely fall in love with. And it irks me so much that a lot of the fanfics with plots that seem interesting are poorly written.

I feel you. Things like that really put me off. Sometimes little things in the story bother me and they put me off so bad that i stop reading completely.

And i totally understand what you mean with reading the comments before hand but actually just wanting to skip ahead and not have to read the beginning.

Im like you in the types of stories i like. Like if its tagged as fantasy i dont expect it to be realistic but other than that i expect fics to be realistic and more than often im left disappointed because its not and in a way it brings down my opinion of the story.

I can agree with you in some aspects. Yes there are also times when I read certain fics and I just don't really like them or never really continue on with them if they don't catch my attention. So now I'm going to talk about this splitting up the different paragraphs you have.
[1] The setting...? I don't think I every really pay that much attention to like setting changes and such, and depending on how quickly or slow they change, I guess I really couldn't care less.
[2] Personally I have no problem for unrealistic things. To me I kinda feel like that's one of the many reasons for fanfiction, to write about unrealistic things that probably wouldn't exists in real life, ya know, using your imagination.
[3] I feel like this a lot sometimes, like I'm reading a story where the characters are to fall in love and just wish they would get together quicker. And what really is that they get together at the end of the story sometimes so I can't really read how they are as a couple (unless there is a sequel but other then that...yeah)
Now, I'm not saying any thing you're ranting about is wrong or anything, because like you said people think differently, so that's why I decided my thoughts on your thoughts with you :)

Erm.... For myself I'm quite a unrealistic author, for I love to write imaginary stories but about the mall and flight time that's just a little too unrealistic which I won't write it in my fanfic at all. For that, I think the authors might not know about this or there are just too imaginary. I do come across this type of fanfics and I would just read it through for what's interested me is the storyline, outcomes and the details of the main characters. Flight time and secret passage way are just some little details added to the fanfic to make it interested and more detailed.

The thing about the mall and secret rich people passage...I laughed harder than I should have.Must have been a 13 yo venting out her childish fantasies on AFF through fanfiction.

okay... i agree with you.
But actually... it's how they like to write it xD
When it comes to writing fics... uhm I would hate it if the writing format is badly written. I won't care if there are misspelled words or wrong grammars because I understand that some of the writers' first language isn't english.
And also, yes, unrealistc makes it so irritating to read that you pick out more errors than to read the plot itself. Another thing that destroys a story is that the character itself. Either he/she is too perfect or too emotional to the point it's not worth reading anymore.
But overall...
I respect all writers because it' how they vent their emotional stress... so I don't really mind unrealistic fics. Ij ust read what they wrote and keep the comments to myself. who knows... one day that writer will be better.
And to tell the truth...
I was once an writer who wrote unrealistic fics.
But hey... I improved and become better! Because I believed I can write and I will never going to give up on it

I really agree with you on this one. I mean, I'm an author myself and I try to keep my fics as REALISTIC as possible because some stories just throw situations out of nowhere without any tangible reason...

No Gurl, i get you. I happen to ship Gri pretty hard, but for the most part you can't find the best of fics on AFF. I mean they are poorly written but what am i supposed to do? I don't really have much else to go by. It came to the point that i would just read them because i think that pairing is hard to find stuff on (?) But now i've just kinda given up on it. I mean for the most part i know the story could be good because the plot is pretty interesting, but they either butcher the ending so bad it ruins the whole thing, or the writing is just too bad that i can't stand it. Honestly, if you want some good stories i'd say look up recs on tumblr or LiveJournal. For the most part they weed out the bad ones. I'm not trying to say that all AFF fics are bad, or all LiveJournal ones are good, i'm just saying that there's light and dark in both. Also, some pairings done have a very big fan following, or tend to have the less than desirable fan following.
We just have to keep looking until we find the ones that rip out our hearts.

I absolutely utterly agree with you!!
The unrealistic things/events in a story annoy the heck out of me!!
And I totally get your third rant!! Sometimes, even with minor characters, I don't want to be bothered with developing them further just because the story would be so much longer if I did! Even for the main protagonists, I just want to hurry up their love story even though I know I could do so much better....
So yes, I get what you feel and I'm happy there's someone out there who thinks what I think :D

but I think there is such thing as the 2nd example.. I know I shouldn't quote a drama for this but I have seen it on Secret Garden though... where a mall has a special VIP lounge where the newest unseen-to-the-public items resides...

Agree with you! :)
I also do that, thats why my subcription is many of graphic store or contest than story. Since, seriously, many story that to out of realism... -_-

I agree with you. Usually I would just judge a fic from it's title and the little description shown OTL. But that's only cos I want quality fics.
