Personality: Ryu Jihae is a 22 year old woman with a bright personality and a natural ability to lead. She is one of the most likable idols to debut in the last decade. After training for eight years, she almost always puts on flawless performances. Jihae is the type of performer to cover for her fellow members if something goes wrong or to smoothly kick a potentially dangerous object offstage. When it comes to variety shows, Jihae is a natural. She is very outgoing and has friends from many different idol groups, so she has plenty of connections and interesting stories. Unfortunately, her sense of humor is somewhat lame, so she is always stuck with the "fool" persona on variety shows. She'll make a joke and everyone will just stare at her or look away in embarrassment. Whenever Jihae is on a variety show for more than one episode, they attempt to make a love line between her and one of the male cast members, because she is so easy to ship. She is extremely social and has an obvious love for skinship, so it is possible to ship her with practically anyone. Backstage, Jihae is very polite and respectful. Offstage, Jihae is a very pleasant person to be around. When you first meet her, you'll have a hard time believing she is 22 years old. With her endless energy and positive outlook on life, Jihae naturally brightens the lives of everyone around her. She is somewhat childish and love joking around... perhaps a bit too muc. At times, it can be hard to tell whether or not she is joking, which often leads to misunderstandings. As she is the leader of Pinocchio, people often expect her to be the "mother" of the group... Jihae is actually more like a best friend to her members. She makes sure to spend an hour alone with each of the members every week. When she hangs out with them, she lets them decide where to go and what to do, but she always makes sure to pay for it. Some of her best memories are made during these member sessions and some of the most infamous Pinocchio pairings are created because of them.

Still, despite all of this, Jihae really is a responsible leder. When the members argue, she is the peacemaker because she is able to see the situation from all sides. Very fair and honest, her friends often come to her for advice. Jihae has a good sense of control and rarely ever gets into serious trouble; she also keeps her members out of trouble. She knows not to meddle is others' affairs, so instead of butting in, she leads by example. This is most obvious when it comes to practice: when all the members are exhausted and want to keep resting, Jihae will get up and resume practice by herself without saying anything, knowing that the others will feel the need to join her Jihae is always trying new things to make practice more enjoyable for her members; she was a trainee for 8 years and knows how difficult it can be to practice the same thing over and over again. She puts her members above herself and is willing to do anything for them. When they are hungry, she will buy or make them food. When they are exhausted, she will allow them to sleep in while she does their chores for them. When they want to get to know another idol, but are too shy to approach them, Jihae will be their liason.

However, just like everyone else, Jihae has her faults. Her years as a trainee were really difficult and she often doubts her musicial ability. While other idols can play instruments and write their own songs, Jihae has no talent for that. She spent many hours trying to learn, but she was never able to do anything more than sing or dance. When she tells others about this problem, they reassure her by telling her that not everyone can act as well she does. This makes her feel better for a little while, until she hears about another idol self-composing a song. Another fault of hers is that she is too focused on her career, to focus on love. Already 22 years old, Jihae has only had one serious relationship and it didn't end well. Now, whenever a man asks her on a date, she will turn him down with the excuse that she has to practice. Even after Pinocchio's debut, Jihae has never accepted a confession... She doesn't want to cause a scandal for her group. Unfortunately, she has earned herself the title of "player". Many guys think that Jihae is a flirt because she does skinship with them, but won't actually date them. Jihae excels most with the "y" concept because she doesn't have a problem showing skin or dancing provocatively. Jihae is one the most famous "bagel girls" in the industry, with her glamorous figure and baby face.

Background: When Jihae was 13, she played her first musical role. During filming the director complimented her voice and thanked her for actually singing, instead of asking for a voice double. Her agency heard about this and decided to put her into vocal lessons. When she excelled in those, they asked her if she had any interest in music. Haeri thought about it for awhile and with the advice of her parents, she decided to start training musically, as well. The CEO of her company sent her to audition for many different companies.

Jihae was a professional actress since the age of 10, so when she began her musical training... It was very difficult for her. The other trainees didn't like her because she was an actress; she also had a lot of trouble with the Seoul dialect. Luckily, Jihae's dancing talent won her enough respect from the others to get by. Her biggest struggle was definitely her pronunciation and learning how to rap. While she was training with Chocolate Entertainment, Haeri was also maintaining her career as an actress and her education. She would get up at 4 in the morning to study for a few hours with her private tutor and then head over to her movie/drama set to film for several hours. By the time she made it to the agency for dance or vocal training, it would be 8 at night. Then, she would stay training until midnight. It was an exhausting schedule. After 8 years of intense training, Jihae was selected to debut with Pinocchio and she had never been more happy.

Reason of Rivalry: A long time ago, Jihae and Minji were friends. Jihae, being 2 years older, was like a real older sister to Minji. They were both trainees at the time and Jihae was always there when Minji needed to talk about things. Jihae even helped Minji with her dancing and singing. However, in 2009, Minji debuted in 2NE1 and Jihae remained as a trainee. Minji let the sudden fame go to her head and she began to grow distant from Jihae. One day, Minji even went so far as to make fun of Jihae for not having debuted yet. Jihae would have been willing to forgive her, but the younger girl made it clear that they weren't friends anymore. Now, Jihae is ready to debut and remind Minji exactly who taught her how to perform.

How They Met: Jihae met Key when Pinocchio was on their first variety show. The crew had assigned them to be partners for the episode and they hit it off right away. They became a popular topic on the internet because of their unique relationship... Key was the diva mother and Jihae was the playful child. Still, despite the strange relationship, they were put into a love line. Jihae didn't mind and just played along with it, using her acting skills to make it seem realistic. She had no idea how her skinship made Key feel and she didn't notice that it stopped being an act for him. After the recording, she was very surprised when he approached her and asked for her number. Key had heard about her and knew that she wouldn't accept his confession if he were to tell her about his new feelings for her. So, he told her that he wanted to become friends with her and she accepted, giving him her number. Little did he know, she also was interested in him. Ever since then, Key has been texting her every day, in the hopes that she will start to antipate his messages. They hang out every now and then, but only with a group of mutual friends.

How They Interact: When Key and Jihae are together, things become very weird for whoever else is there. It is obvious that Key is interested in her, but it's also obvious that Jihae has no idea. Key treats her much better than most of his female friends and always tries to impress her. He isn't quite as silly around her and acts more like a gentleman. Jihae acts different from her usual self around Key, as well. She tries to refrain from initiating skinship with him because she doesn't want him to know she likes him. In fact, she even goes so far as to completely avoiding any physical contact or eye contact with him. Although Jihae really likes Key, she would never do anything to cause a scandal for Pinocchio.

On the day of the script reading, Jihae got held up at a dance practice and was running late. Still wearing her practice clothes, she hurried through the hallways, towards the meeting. Jihae didn't even notice Jiyoung until she ran right into him, knocking both of them to the floor. She wasn't looking where she was going because she had been too busy digging through her bag for her script... Her script which was now scattered across the tile. Jihae was flustered because she had just run into one of the hottest idols in the business, she was anxious because she was late to the meeting, and she was exhausted because of her schedule... She just sat on the floor and burst into tears. Jiyoung was astonished and worried, immediately helping her up and asking her if she was okay. Jihae explained her situation and was shocked when Jiyoung hugged her. He helped her to dry her tears, pick up her script, and even managed getting her to smile. Then, he escorted her into the meeting room and explained that it was his fault they were late. He was also acting in this drama and throughout the months of filming, they grew very close and eventually began dating,

How They Interact: After two years of dating, Jiyoung and Jihae had a very messy breakup. Their relationship was discovered by a reporter and there was a huge scandal. Jiyoung assured her that he didn't mind if the whole world knew about them, but Jihae couldn't handle it. She couldn't stand the hate mail she was getting from VIPs and she was having a hard time landing a role in any drama or movie. So, she broke up with him, despite her love for him. Now, a year later, Jiyoung is still in love with her, but Jihae is still too scared to be with him... He's just too popular. Especially now that she is going to debut in a girl group. When she sees him, Jihae pretends as if the years they spent together never happened and treats him as an aquaintance. Jiyoung hates this because he never stopped loving her, but he doesn't know what to do to win her back.

Scene Request:
- One of the other Pinocchio members tell Key about Jihae's feelings for him. He invites her to a movie and says that some of their mutual friends will be coming too. When she arrives, she is surprised to see him standing alone. He lies and says that none of them could make it, when he never really invited them. Jihae, knowing it would be rude to just leave, decides to stay and watch the movie with him. When they are in the middle of the movie, Key finally works up the courage to make a move: he leans over and kisses her. Against her better judgement, Jihae returns the kiss. When they break apart, Key wants to say something, but she cuts him off saying that they should watch the movie. He knows that she isn't ready to talk about it, so instead he agrees to wait. Soon after, he takes her hand in his. They spend the next 30 minutes holding hands and pretending to watch the movie. Afterwards, she pretends like nothing happens, but before she can leave, Key manages to kiss her on the cheek. He says goodnight and then runs off before she can get angry. Jihae smiles and heads back to the dorm.
- A sasaeng fan spotted them at the movies and took pictures of Key kissing her on the cheek. The fan then threatens to leak them online if Jihae doesn't stop seeing him. The whole situation reminds her too much of Jiyoung, so she agrees and begins ignoring Key. He finds out why and contacts the fan telling them to release the picture. It becomes a hot topic quickly, especially when Key admits his feelings for her on live televison. At first, Jihae is very upset and refuses to talk to him. However, she soon sees that both SHINee fans and Pinocchio fans approve of the pairing.
- The topic of her and Jiyoung is brought up during a Pinocchio meeting and she is visibly upset. One of the other members jumps in to change the topic. The interviewer is persistent, though, and the other members get angry at him for asking her when it's clearly a sensitive subject.
- Pinocchio winning over 2NE1 on a music show and the way Minji and Jihae react.
- Jihae and Jiyoung are co-starring in a drama and Jihae has mixed feelings. They are interviewed and the topic of their scandal is brought up. Jiyoung confesses that she was the one to break it off and that he never got over her. Jihae, of course, is stunned into silence. Jiyoung pecks her on the lips and she slaps him instinctively. Since this is all on a live interview, Jihae just caused her first scandal for Pinocchio and she is very upset.
