How I Got Into Kpop!
Hello, everyone! I never make blog posts, but hey, I guess I'll just make one now for the hell of it, haha. So this is basically the story of how I got into Kpop, iight? Everyone has such unique stories about getting into kpop hehe... BUT MINE IS COMPLETELY WEIRD SO HERE WE GO UHUHUHU.
ALRIGHT! So remember when Wondergirls debuted in America with "Nobody"? Yeah, I actually LOVED that song, but I didn't even know they were Korean… orz so I don't really consider that as my first encounter with kpop.
September 2009! I was in 6th grade back then omg .___. My older sister was a freshman in high school, and she met this girl who basically introduced kpop to her, and I thought it was so weird that she would like Korean music. I thought it was super random tbh - I mean, why KOREAN music out of all things… (I shouldn't have judged so much back then bc I was & still am so into anime, manga, jpop, cpop, etc. so I was such a hypocrite lol)
So then I said "alright, I wanna hear your 'korean music', lemme watch one of dem korean vids" so then I happened to watch "Wannabe" by Epik High. Not a very good first choice if you watched that music video, bc it really creeped me out, but it was so funny and weird lol :D But that's how I liked Epik High though. But even then, that was in fact NOT what I called my first encounter with kpop.
Then October 2009, it all began. My sister forced me to listen to kpop and I'm like "uhuh, uhuh they're nice songs… okay" well basically I just agreed to let her put them on my iPod, but little did I know was that she put multiple MUSIC VIDEOS on there, too.
When I found out, I was so creeped out, so she watched them with me. AND THAT'S WHEN IT BEGAN WITH A CERTAIN 5 MEMBERED GROUP COLLABORATING WITH A CERTAIN 4 MEMBERED GROUP IN COLORFUL CLOTHES SINGING ABOUT LOLLIPOPS, A 6 MEMBERED BOY GROUP SINGING ABOUT BEING "HEARTSICK, HEAR ME, BE CRAZY, CAN'T LET YOU GO", AND A CERTAIN KPOP CLASSIC THAT WILL MAKE ME ETERNALLY CRY, AKA WEDDING DRESS.
At first I STILL thought it was weird. While watching Bad Girl, my sister completely fangirled over some guy named AJ, and then she forced me to pick a bias. "Uhhh… I don't know, this guy?" I pointed to the guy with brown hair who began to sing, just to get her off my case. NEVER DID I KNOW THAT I WOULD FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM HOLY CRAP. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I PRESENT TO YOU, THE EPITOME OF ALL STUPIDITY, SON DONGWOON. I MEAN, JUST LOOK AT THAT LITTLE PIECE OF
Ok so yea Big Bang, B2ST, & 2NE1 were my fave groups. I gave B2ST such weird nicknames… Yoseob was 'wannabe aaron carter', Hyunseung was 'coconut head', Junhyung was 'fake ghetto guy', Doojoon was 'fake leader guy', Dongwoon was 'kung pao', and Kikwang was simply 'AJ'. (DON'T ASK ME WHY I NAMED DONGWOON KUNG PAO & I NAMED DOOJOON FAKE LEADER GUY BC I THOUGHT THAT KIKWANG WAS THE LEADER THE ENTIRE TIME OMG)
So yeah, then throughout all of 6th & 7th grade I went through this embarrassing "Asian Phase" (I am Asian though but it was too over the top orz) & I tried so hard to convert everyone into kpop, but was only successful at converting 2 of them OTL
So yeah, guys - October 2009 marked the beginning of my trip into the deep, dark pits of fiery hell called 'kpop'. Hope you enjoyed that story… lmao
