ABOUT CHARACTER

Character name: Song Fei Lan

Stage name: Mai (it means dance in Japanese and ocean or elegance in Chinese)

Ethnicity: a "hapa;" half white, quarter Chinese, quarter Korean

Language: Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, English

Background: Song Fei Lan (Korean surname, Chinese given name) was born into a tri-racial family. Both of her parents were happas, and as a result she is a hapa too. Her dad was half Korean (Song Jaemin, or Jamie in English) and her mom was half Chinese (Ju Li Wa, or Leah in English). Fei Lan's mom had long had family ties in the Chinese triad gangs, but her immediate family was never given any trouble by them. In fact, they almost served as a secret service more than anything, so Fei Lan and her older brother Feng Han lived a pretty normal, safe life. They moved around a bit because of her dad's job as a adjunct professor of Asian history at small universities. She was born in a villaged called Sunxui in southern China and grew up speaking Cantonese but then moved to Hong Kong at age 7 where she learned Mandarin and English. An unfortunate series of events began to occur to Fei Lan when she turned 10; she began to be ually abused by a teacher, but she was faced with too many threats and fears to speak up, so she remained silent until 13 when she moved to Busan, where she was later scouted by Woolim.  Unfortunately, her dad got into some monetary trouble with the Chinese Triads even while abroad (being a university professor doesn't pay very well, you know), so he encountered a lot of debt gambling. When he wasn't able to pay pack his debt, he and his family were put on the "hit list," and he and his wife were murdered in fron of Fei Lan's eyes when she was 15, but as I state later, she and her brother were spared because of her mother's ties to the Triads. It was these two experiences that caused Fei Lan to seek a way to deal with her intense emotions, and the most helpful and rewarding were writing poetry and dancing.

Personality: Very talkative, and is always doing a ier version of agyeo even though she just turned 18 (kind of like Woohyun oppa, but less greasy). However, most of that is all for show. When she's with her groupmates she's extremely reserved, and is only close with 

Family Background: Father was Korean, mother was Chinese. Her dad got caught up in some sketchy business on the side (dealing with drug lords and e rings), and his activities landed he and his family as targets of the Chinese Triads. He and his wife were unfortunately killed, while Fei Lan and her older brother Feng Han were spared because of their mother's heritage.

Family Members: Lived with grandparents (mom's parents) after parents were murdered; has an older brother by three years named Feng Han (now 21)

Likes: bubble tea! Specifically lychee or ginger flavor. And Rilakkuma! And composing lyrics to songs. Even though she's the maknae and does her share of fanservice agyeo, she prefers to spend her time alone with her journal.

Dislikes: men. With the exception of her brother, Fei Lan is extremely distrustful of men, which makes variety shows and such awkward for her.

Favorite Colors: Any and everything black, as it is a color that is created by combining all the colors of the world (and it also represents nighttime, her favorite time of day)

Habits: Don't be fooled by appearances. Even though she may have been blessed with above-average looks, Fei Lan is still extremely reserved and rather idiosyncratic (likes routines and has issues with change). Being a type A, Fei Lan is a perfectionist. She's known to stay late for hours in the recording or dance studio, partially because she's a perfectionist but also because it gets her mind off of her past. She's also a little bit OCD about her Rilakkuma bear collection too.

Hobbies: Composing song lyrics/writing poetry, spending time outdoors in nature, improvising dances in the studio, and hanging out with her older brother because she's still too intimidated by her INFINITE sunbaes.

LIFE AS A TRAINEE:

Dicovery: Fei Lan's brother got her to enter a writing/composition contest sponsored by JYP ent when she was 15. Fei Lan refused to submit any of her work because she felt it was too private and was kind of embarrassed by it. But her brother went and submitted her writings anyway without her knowing, and much to her surprise (but not his), she won the contest. She was brought in to the JYP offices to discuss becoming a full-time composer, and it was when she was left alone in the studio for a few minutes that she began to sing and dance to calm her nerves. The JYP people realized her potential and offerred her a position as a trainee, but she declined. Word got around to other agencies, and within a few months Woolim ent contacted her. At the request of her brother and in honor of her deceased parents (who both encouraged her love of the arts), she accepted their offer to become a trainee.

Length of Training: Two years professionally, all with Woolim.

Position: Whatever position Hoya fills. Gotta love them Busan boys >.<

 

CHARACTER'S RELATIONSHIPS

Love Interest (within INFINITE): Hoya, because he just "gets" you (and you both have Busan accents).

Backup Love Interest: Sungyeol, because be brings out a side of you that most people cannot or have even seen.

Best Friends: Junggook and Jimin (BTS), Jia and Fei of MissA (you changed your stage name to Mai to avoid any confusion with your sunbae), Victoria of f(x)

Friends: all of 2NE1 (CL, Dara, Bom, and Minzy)

Rival: Jiyeon of T-ARA

Jiyeon was asked to host the M-Net Countdown with Myungsoo, but an issue came up with her schedule and Fei were asked to take her place. Since then she has had it out for her, as if she intentionally messed with her schedule (she didn't - it was an honest case of miscommunication).
