Story plot: Baekhyun travels all the way to look into the Reflectionate, because he wants answers only the abyss can give him.
Author's note: Vey honestly, I had to look up what 'abyss' meant and then I still needed time to think about what to do with this quote. For me, it was one of those difficult quotes that can be both deep as broad, depending on how you interpret it. This is what I came up with. I stalked your profile just to find out what kpop bands you liked, and just assumed you to be one of my EXO readers. This is the result. I think this can be quite interesting. I mean, I had lots of fun writing this. I promised myself that it would stay below 1000 words, and I succeeded haha. I have absolutely no idea why I wanted this title, but it sounded right and cool. Yeah... I know, I do not understand myself either. Thank you for the quote!
 

“Take a deep breath and look in the mirror.”

That was what the wizard with the dark, worn out cloak had told Baekhyun before he was left on his own to deal with whatever he was going to encounter any moment soon. The powerful old man who had powers given by heaven and hell did not even bother with telling the young boy what he was to do after seeing everything, either assuming that Baekhyun would already know or not caring about his wellbeing at all. All was well though, he insisted, because he was holding onto a wand of his own in case of danger. He was well able to protect himself, he told himself again and again.

Baekhyun heard about the Reflectionate from Kyungsoo, his big eyed roommate and friend who spent every minute of his life indulging himself in knowledge captured in books. According to Kyungsoo, this mirror was able to show you your reflection in its truest form, its most chaotic and rawest form that nobody really wanted to be remembered of. This version could be seen as an alternative you, the real you, the person you never wanted to be – whatever idea you wanted to believe in, it did not take away the fact that this was a part of you that you indeed were.

It was after Baekhyun was given the wand that would supposedly belong to him from now on that he decided to search for his reflection in the abyss. Specifically, it was after he had been told that he had been given the wand of the once most feared and heartless wizard that had once ruled the world, that he began to doubt things. He was certain this meant something, should meant something, because there was no way the wand of a wizard that caused so much shock in everyone’s eyes when it was given to him, meant nothing. Knowing that the Reflectionate might be able to give him answers, he immediately travelled all the way from Soong to Yangu, not caring how long and exhaustive the travel would be.

The moment he pulled off the shot red cloth from the grand mirror, he was immediately met with millions and billions of dark creatures that eyed him hungrily, eyes bulging out hauntingly while hissing sounds filled the room. It was suffocating, frightening to the core, because all those deformed monsters were made out of hatred of the roughest kind, capturing innocence and purity for the sake of living. It was a hideous, unpleasant sight, but it soon vanished, a blinding light starting from the middle and spreading out to the corners of the mirror, killing all those nonhumans before showing Baekhyun something that scared him more than the previous sight.

He saw a reflection of that wizard that nobody dared to bring up anymore, the dark wizard that had brought terror to everyone and had died the cruelest death a wizard could ever get. He saw how the reflection looked back at him, knowingly, familiarly, as if they had known each other for centuries. There was a faint bit of recognition in those empty eyes, before they turned dark and the figure grinned maliciously at Baekhyun. The sight caused something to escape into Baekhyun’s conscious, something he never thought existed inside of him.

“Baekhyun! How was it?! What did you see?!”

Kyungsoo asked the moment Baekhyun arrived back at their dorm, eyeing the other warily upon noticing the clear fear in the other’s eyes. He was about to put a hand on the other’s shoulder, a gesture meant as comfort, when Baekhyun slapped his approaching hand away with unnecessary hard force, causing his hand to redden immediately. 

“B-Baekhyun, what-” Kyungsoo began, eyes widened in surprise.

“Don’t touch me,” Was all that Baekhyun said without looking at the other, “don’t touch me.”
