Oh, Kpop

Kpop. The thing that keeps me alive. The thing that keeps me laughing, crying, fangirling, and procrastinating. It's full of so many memorable moments.
I remember when I first listened to Kpop (I think) in the year of 2010. I believe it was Girls' Generation's Gee that was the first Kpop music video that I had ever seen.
At first, I thought what any other person would,"Am I on the weird side of YouTube again?" But, after listening to the catchy song a couple of times it started to become something that I liked despite my inability to understand any Korean at all.
I listened to more Kpop songs by different artists and became more and more familiar with the large amount of boy/girl groups and the (very) foreign concepts within the genre (such as, aegyo). I also learned A LOT of Korean and a lot about South Korea's culture. Kpop was my perfect getaway when I got tired of the same music I would hear on the radio.
Sadly, I live in the middle of nowhere and the only thing that I can discuss with my friends that relates to Kpop is PSY's Gangnam Style and Gentleman. I've once attempted to persuade one of my close friends to listen to other Kpop artists but this is basically what happened:

Me watching a Kpop music video:

My friend watching a Kpop music video:

Her response:
You think they're hot?! Are they even boys? I can't even understand their English! I don't get what happened in the video at all.

What I was thinking:

My actual response:

After that, I stuck with keeping my fangirl thoughts to myself and throwing a Kpop reference into conversations with my friends every once in awhile (of course they didn't fully understand my intentions). If only they could understand the joys of being a Kpop fan. Le sigh.
