Being An Original?

I need a question answered about individuality. I'm already awesome, but one issue has been pressing me. I'm a huge fan of JNey and had mixed feelings about her being D-Unit's guest member. Happy for D-Unit and sad for GP Basic being put on pause. Anyway, my admiration for JNey led me to use her music when I practice. When I performed at a local charity event, a guy said I remind him of JNey. This bothered me because I used an original song. She is INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL but I don't want to be seen that way. It's like they don't see me as being myself, and I only wanna be myself. Should I stop practicing to JNey's music? Is it okay that I'm compared to other people or does it mean I'm not seen as original? I'm usually an overconfident person, but right now I'd like to hear other opinions. My cousin told me I can use my blog to hear what you guys have to say.

I don't know anything about music but if you are exposed to the same thing over and over, it is highly likely that you'll be influenced by it. It's okay if you don't have your own style, since you are just starting. But as you get exposed to different styles, artists and songs, you'll be able to develop your unique sound. It is like writing. Actually, my comment is based on what an editor suggested to writers who are looking for their writing style. Start by searching for that author whose style they like. Then, re-write a story of the author by hand - copy every word on a blank sheet to know the process of writing. Then analyze the story -identify verbs, adjectives, adverbs, note how sentences are formed, how author described certain objects/scenes, etc. And as they study their styles, they'll eventually find their own. I think, it can be applied with music.
