Against All Odds - Chapter 39

Annyeong readers,

I noticed that quite a few of you are confused by the whole 'acceptance' concept in Chapter 39 of Against All Odds. I wasn't planning on clarifying that chapter because I wanted you guys to make your own deduction but it doesn't seem to go that way. I wouldn't want any of you to be clueless about what transpired between Youngbae and Charlie because it's one of the things that is crucial to their relationship down the road. (*hint*)

So, here goes. I hope my explanation makes enough sense.

The concept of acceptance in Chapter 39 is actually referring to a state of mind. When Youngbae says he can't accept what happened between Charlie and Seunghyun, he is speaking from the view of Taeyang. Which means, he is unable to accept that there exist a physical relationship between Charlie and Seunghyun, for the reason that he has a standing relationship with Seunghyun himself (members of the same group, brothers, friend etc). Now, before you jump up and say that it doesn't make sense, let me point it out to you that it's supposed to NOT make any sense. Because sometimes the things we feel strongly about, defies logic or reason. It makes one irrational even over the simples things. It's called love :)

Which brings to the second part where he says he won't accept it. It basically says that since he cannot accept the reality of the physical relationship between Charlie and Seunghyun, therefore he is rejecting that reality altogether. This means for him, Charlie's past does not exist. At least that part of her past. He chose to not dwell on her past as to give their relationship a fair chance. He doesn't want his feelings for her to be influenced by her previous relationship. He prefers to see her as someone devoid of any history. Again this may not make a lot of sense. Neither it's fair to completely disregard someone's past. However, like I said before, love makes you irrational. It makes you do and say things that can't be explained by logic. You see it all the time in cases like Rihanna & Chris Brown - he hits her and yet she still loves him.

I know the whole concept seems to be heavy and mind boggling but the reason I used it is because I believe it's in-line with Youngbae's personality (from what I imagined). He's a thinker - therefore he thinks things deeply and in angles that others don't. This also explains why he avoided Charlie for 2 weeks. I believe he's the kind of person that needs to make his own decision based on his own judgement - without being influenced by his existing feelings or by opinions of others.

Phewww. I hope I managed to clear some confusion? Is it the premise behind the plot too much? Too complicated? Let me know so that I can keep in mind how to develop my storyline in the future (as not to induce brain aneurysm in my readers)

Thanks for reading and do give me your feedback. Even if it's just to tell me that I :)

Ah okay. This makes so much more sense and clears up a lot of things. Love is a crazy emotion and you're not necessarily thinking logically when you're in a relationship. I see what you mean by "accept" now.

The depth of your work is the thing that draws me to it. I would say, pls continue. You're doing a fantastic job because I've always constructed this same Youngbae in my head too. xo
