I had an interesting conversation with RP-admins, three of them, actually.

And they told me,

1. Upvotes are needed to gain members and you wouldn't understand. 

2. 'Click this' links are not cheats, but a trend in RP. They can just un-vote, it's not in the rules.

3. Upvotes are not important, subscribers are.

They practically said the same thing over and over. I wouldn't link the whole conversation because your mind would just explode. Here is an example of how one admin responds,

But here are my thoughts,

1. Yeah, I don't. You don't need upvotes to gain members. You need KARMA to advertise. You need upvotes to get featured LOL

2. 'Click this' links are cheats. Why else would they not label it properly as the upvote button clone? If they could un-vote, why the need to make 'click this' links?

3. O.O Then why use the 'click this' link?

Ehehe. I am not distraught. Actually, I just got back from the university. At least I don't care about upvotes unlike you who have to cheat by creating 'click this' links. LOL.
