personality:

Awkward is the first word that would come out from your mouth if you get to know JJ. He would always say awkward things, during awkward times at awkward places which earned him the nickname 'Moonstone'. He would be the entertainer among his friends, where they would later on laugh due to his awkward comments. JJ actually tries to cool things down or to cheer people up, but, it's just that his timing is a little bit off, that's all. Being the awkward guy he is, JJ is also an outspoken person. He would never be shy about something and would always voice his opinion (no matter how awkward it gets) and he also loves to share and hear what other people think. He would express what he feels yet carefully choose his words as to avoid hurting another person's feeling.

The funny thing about this awkward fellow is that he is forgetful. He would absent-mindedly leave things at different places and search for them at different places. JJ is always losing things and sometimes he gets really frustrated about misplacing important things. Plus, due to this, he would always forgive what others did to him and he would go like: "What are you apologizing for?" and he would show them his blank face. Despite all those silly character he has, JJ is a very hardworking person. When he strive to do something, he would give it his all and not waste a single thing so that later he would not have regrets. JJ never let people's comments bring him down and yet he uses them to fuel his desire to do his best. This is the personality that made many adore and respect him.

♦ What's your background?; tell me about your family

background:

When JJ was a child, he lived in Los Angeles. His family consists of his Dad, his Mom and an elder sister. His parents are usually away from home which leaves only JJ and his sister to take care of each other. If his Dad is at home, then it would be a miracle since JJ could hardly see the old man around the house while his Mom is busy with her career as well. At home, JJ is a filial son and a caring brother. Since their parents are away most of the time, JJ soon picked up the ability to cook and he would always learn new recipes to cook for his sister and his Mom; who gets home late every night and leaves early in the morning. 

At school, JJ is quite the popular guy since he has the good looks and the hardworking attitude that people like. He treats his friends equally and does not pick any favourites. JJ joined the a cappella team and the Korean club at his school since he likes singing very much and he wants to take up Korean so that maybe one day when his Dad comes back, he would be able to speak to his Dad with his mother tongue. Besides that, he even went to his Korean friends houses to learn from them together with his sister. Once, during an a cappella state competition, his Dad came back and his whole family was united once again. He won the competition and he was approached by a talent scout to join the national a cappella team.

His Dad had declined right away saying that JJ should not live as an entertainer. He was very displeased with what his Dad said and since then he tried to find a way out and live his dream to become an entertainer. That was when he found out about Music Box Entertainment; an entertainment company searching for fresh talents and open for auditions. He told his sister about it and she totally supported her brother. Together, they set up a plan and he was to leave for a flight to Seoul, South Korea the very next day their Dad would leave for his next project. With his guitar, some clothes, some money and a new hope, he set off to Seoul, running away from home to fulfill his dream.

first meeting:

Outside trainee life, JJ did a part time job at a coffee shop close to JYPEnt. building. That time, his shift ended and the shop was about to be closed when a girl suddenly rushed into the shop and demanded: 'One cappuccino, one mocha latte, one green tea, one milkshake, one chocolate, strawberry, blueberry and vanilla doughnuts each. Plus one black coffee make it strong and fast, please?!' When she actually looked up, she came face to face with JJ and the clumsily disguised idol blushed deep red. She didn't notice that he was moping the floor nearby and she slipped.

JJ was there at the moment and he caught her swiftly and they actually swayed like a couple of dancers and he slowly let go of her. He smiled and waved his hand in front of Suzy's dazed face. Then, she tried slowly to speak in English since she thought he was a foreigner, and it seems that all the orders that she tried so hard to remember slipped from her mind. He repeated her order calmly and put away the mop to do his job. Suzy was really shocked and that was the first time they met.

trainee life:

It is hard for JJ to cope with life in Seoul. With the responsibility to feed himself with his hard-owned money and life as a trainee, it is difficult for him at times. He has to learn how to dance and luckily he learned a few while he was in the USA. And he is quite talented when it comes to creating a few dance moves. The other trainees treat him well, the company also helped him out when there is any problem if he needed any. But, running away from from and living in a foreign country, JJ learns to be independent and not to trouble people with his problems.
