The prince is going to marry her, even if the King defies this woman. Even if it means he will step down his throne. That is how much he loves her. He’s willing to sacrifice his identity, his life, just to be with her. Everybody thinks she is not worth it, she is useless. However the prince loved her dearly. He ignored everyone else’s opinion. It clearly shows that love was really powerful… The end.

Romantic Fantasy stories, don’t they all imply the same thing? Nothing and no one can beat love… It is what makes the world go round.  It is the center of life. I am a big fan of these kinds of tales. It helps me escape reality even just for a few hours a day. In short I am a total book worm.

I always go to the public library to read books during my free time. I don’t study now though, since it is summer but I have a scholarship in a university here in Seoul. I do have part-time jobs here and there. I sometimes tutor high school kids after their classes and I work year-round at a bookstore. My salary is enough to help my parents. My dad works in a ramen factory and the pay is fair, while my mom stays at home. The money we have can make us survive at least every month.

“Eunji, the library is about to close in an hour.” Mrs. Joo, the librarian reminded me.
“Okay! Thank you for letting me know Mrs. Joo.” I sprung up and slightly bowed my head.
She meekly smiled at me, “Did you finish another book?” and queried.
I nodded, “Yes, I just finished a few minutes ago.”
“Why don’t you try finding the next book you would like to read before we close?” the kind lady continued, “It is your day off tomorrow anyway... Am I correct?”
“Yes. That’s a great idea Mrs. Joo! I’ll try to look for one as fast as I could!” a bright excited smile was pasted on my face. The librarian giggled and then scurried away to further scan the surroundings.
I slung my backpack on my shoulder and walked briskly towards the book shelves. I placed back the current book I just finished and keenly tried looking for a new one.

“What to read, what to read?” I murmured.
Out of the blue I heeded a loud thump against the wooden floor. It startled me of course. I gradually spun around, afraid of what I might see… I hope it is not anything supernatural.

It was only a book. Although I wonder how it fell. The books seemed to be arranged nicely at this area. I picked it up and read the title out loud, “My Cinderella.”

This is one of my favorite stories when I was younger! It is like Korea’s own version of the popular Cinderella story. I turned it over and checked the short synopsis at the back. It is the same as always. The only thing that probably changed was the cover. I scanned the first few pages, it now had a few more colorful illustrations of places and my eyes saw this beautiful painting-like colored picture of an extremely handsome prince.  I was taken aback by his features. He seemed so perfect. I just couldn’t take my eyes off him.

Because of that portrait, it hindered my decision to find another story. I must read this one again. I must know the story by heart once more. I just couldn’t wait so I flipped it back open and began reading. I slowly sat down and rested my back on one of the shelves.

A few pages after I instinctively halted for a moment just to take a peek at Prince Kim Jaejoong’s illustration. Does such a person even exist? He seems too good to be true. Someone like him is impossible to find. I wish he was real though. It would be nice if he is real…Could he be my prince too?

“Ah!!!” A sudden lightning loudly roared outside the library. What?! Is there a storm coming? I dropped the book and the rest of my things on the floor to rush towards the large windows. It’s not even raining… or maybe it is only about to rain? I calmed myself down first before going back to my spot. I sat and started reading again when a bright flash of light blinded my eyes.

“Yah~!” was my only statement. I immediately threw the book away to not further harm me. It took me a while before getting back my precious vision.
“What was that?” I anxiously uttered, hesitating to hold it. Out of the blue I heeded someone coughing. It scared me a bit. I don’t think there are other people in this part of the library especially when it is about to close.

I toughened up and attempted to search for the sound. The next thing I knew I was walking on a huge puddle of water. Don’t tell me there is a huge leak up on the roof of the building or maybe a broken pipe? I glanced up but the ceiling seemed fine. On the other hand the coughing sound got a lot louder. I stepped forward and peeked in one aisle.

My eyes widened. I kept blinking thinking that I might just be dreaming right now. I pinched myself a lot of times and it hurt. This can’t be. There is a man soak and wet lying on the wooden floor, coughing so profoundly. It was a mind battle for me. I want to help but I am too afraid to even get a step closer.

“Ajusshi?” I called out, “Ajusshi, are you alright?”
He wasn’t answering me. He looked too weak to even move his lips. I inhaled deeply and scurried over to him. This stranger was shivering and seemed ill. I knelt down not even caring if I would get my jeans wet. I placed his head on my lap and tried talking to him, “Are you alright? What happened to you?”

Thankfully enough he began speaking up, “Kind lady, you must help me.”
What should I do? I fixed his wet hair in order for me to see his face… his face. I couldn’t believe it. Prince Kim Jaejoong was right before my eyes. How? What?

“Please…” he begged. I snapped back to my senses and rested his back on one of the shelves. I was frozen. I have no idea what to do with him. I checked my watch and saw that there was fifteen minutes left before the library closes. I have to hurry.

After snapping back to reality, I removed my cardigan and placed it over his shoulders so he could theoretically be warmed at least. “Can you get up?” I asked. He meekly nodded and I aided him to stand.

“Let me take you to a hospital.” I uttered as we leaped towards the exit. He was silent the whole time; he was too busy shivering to even say a word.

“Oh I forgot my things! Just stay here okay? Wait for me.” I instructed and let him lean on a shelf. I ran to my spot to gather my belongings. I noticed the book shining. I pondered over for a minute if I would take it. I soughed and just grabbed it. I hurried back to him and continued dragging him out the premises. I peeked at the check-out counter for books but no one seems to be there. I did not want to ‘steal’ this book but I don’t have enough time to make this stranger… I mean this ill 'prince', wait for me.

As soon as we stepped outside it began pouring. Why is this happening now? This rain came at such a wrong time. I snatched the umbrella I have in my bag and forcefully opened it against the strong wind. I somewhat ran with him through the heavy rain. However he halted in the middle of our trip.

“You must help me.” He uttered as his lips quivered.

“I am helping you! Now don’t just stand there, let me take you to the hospital!” I exclaimed as confusion covered my visage. What does he really want?

“You don’t understand.” ‘The Prince’ persisted.

“I am looking for this so called Real World.” He softly stated.

“What?” is all I can utter.

“P-people say that... that other dimen-dimension was more advanced. There are tall... tall structures every-everywhere and bright elusive illumination all around.” He further described, stuttering from time to time.

My eyebrows met, “I don’t get you.” I confessed. What is he trying to say?

The rain got stronger. I had to look for an alternative. I saw a bath house a few blocks away and decided to take him there. I dragged him without much thought. When we arrived we were really dripping wet. I politely requested for a towel to dry us first before we change clothes. It only dawned to me then and there that this man, Kim Jaejoong was wearing medieval clothing. Those typically depicted in fairytale stories and movies. People coming in and out of the bath house were staring at him… No, actually they were staring at the both of us. I don’t know what to do. I can’t help but be ashamed right now because of what he is wearing.

‘Please hurry up and wear this.” I slightly begged as I handed the complete outfit to him. The ‘prince’ shot me a clueless expression.

He also kept looking around, seeming very uncomfortable of his surroundings. I then directed him to the changing room and eyed him until he ‘safely’ got in. Afterwards I changed as well.

Is he really a prince? He’s joking right? It’s impossible, but why was the book shining the whole—the book!? I rushed to my belongings and checked if the it got damaged. It wasn’t ‘sparkling’ anymore plus it was in perfect condition. Whew, that was close.

As soon as I finished, I stepped out only to find a very curious Kim Jaejoong. He couldn’t stay still. He was so amazed of the things all over him. One thing really caught his eye though, the T.V. set. The ‘prince’ kept going around it, probably trying to figure out how it came to be… if he truly came from a not so highly developed world that is.

I drew near him and tapped his shoulder, “Come with me.”

“Alright. If I must.” He agreed still a bit distracted with the inanimate object.

I asked him to sit down on the wooden floor. He followed and I settled in front of him. He simply stared at me like a little child. I observed him for the second time. I seriously can’t believe it, his hair, his eyes, lips, nose and skin… It is exactly the same as the illustration. I know I mentioned it a lot of times but I am just so awed.

“Do you feel okay now?” I questioned. Kim Jaejoong bobbed his head innocently. True to his words he does seem perfectly fine. Is this guy joking? He looked very ill a while ago, now he acts as if he was never in that state at all.

I carefully took out a medicine for colds that I always keep inside my bag in case of I get sick. I showed it to him and he clearly had no idea what it was. “Drink this, just to be sure.” I instructed.

“I am very sorry but how am I supposed to drink that?” he wondered.

“You swallow it with water.” I responded kind of getting impatient with him

“I don’t know what you are trying to let me do…” Jaejoong is still clueless.

“You have medicines back at your world right?” I tried to relate it to his ‘dimension’.

“Herbal medicines? Why yes, however it is in liquid form not like that small thing.” He described.

Ugh. How am I supposed to explain this properly to him?

I snatched the tiny water bottle beside me and opened it. I opened its packaging and dissolved it in water. “Here, you can drink it now right?” I offered.

Being really hesitant, it took him awhile before gripping onto the bottle. As he gulped down on the bitter cure, I continued interrogating him.

“If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?” I crossed my arms.

“Oh yes. Forgive me for not introducing myself. I am Prince Kim Jaejoong from the Land of Sarang!” he exclaimed all of a sudden. It definitely attracted attention but I ignored the onlookers.

“Do you have to talk so loudly?” I mentioned.

“Everyone should know where I am from.” He answered proudly.

“Okay, they all know who you are now so please from now on keep your voice down.” I requested and then continued, “So what are you looking for again?”

“The Real World.” He pursued, “Legend has it that a man was transported to that very strange world as punishment for stealing a King's golden crown. There were humans but they were very different. Their way of living was more convenient than it was for us.”

“How did this Real World exactly looked like?” I questioned him as I wore a confused expression.

“As I have said, there are tall structures everywhere, higher than castle gates and bright elusive illumination all around. They had these machines emitting upsetting sounds and also machines similar to the purpose of horses and carriages. They also have these small rectangular objects wherein you could receive announcements without the presence of a Royal Messenger. Lastly the inhabitants of the world were more liberated.” The Prince from the Land of Sarang shared with so much amazement.

Is he describing this world? I kept silent as I observed him in a discrete manner.
"Do you have knowledge of that world?" He asked spontaneously.
"I think I do." I answered.
"You must tell me where I could find it." He begged.
"Wait... before I do tell, I am really lost... how did you get here in the first place, if you say you are the Prince Kim Jajeoong?" I crossed my arms.

"You are very meticulous. But since you saved me, I have my depth of gratitude towards you. I will answer your question with a short narration."

He paused for a moment and continued...

He said he grew tired of his life back at the Land of Sarang. Jaejoong wanted to experience something different from his current state. He always overheard their royal helpers telling stories about the Real World like the one he mentioned earlier. He got really curious of what life was like there. So he secretly searched for a Wiseman to tell him how to get there. He told him that it was in another dimension. The Wiseman instructed the prince to go deep in the forest and look for an abandoned house made up of colorful rocks. The doorway will only open on a rainy day and specifically when the moon meets the sun. So he patiently waited for that day. It took many days until it was time. When the first rain dropped on his window and that there was a rumored 'meeting of the sun and moon' that day, he rushed to the forest and hurriedly searched the small rock house. He soon found the doorway – the rain already pouring hard-, but a strong lightning suddenly hit the wooden object... Then when he opened his eyes he saw me.
My eyebrows met, "You do know you're a fictional character right?" I questioned, confused more than ever.

"I am sorry. What is a fictional character? That seems to be a huge praise towards me, isn't?" He utters so confidently.

I sighed deeply. This is going to be a long night.

So I explained to him that the place he is looking for -probably- is well... this world. He couldn't believe he was actually here. He couldn't stay still after I told him. Then I also enlightened him that he came from a book. That was when he realized he wasn't 'real'. I shared that he was a mere imagination of the author, although it took me awhile before he finally got it.

He asked for the book and I handed it to him. Prince Jaejoong kept skimming the contents.

"It is impossible and preposterous! We are real... we can't be coming from mere imagination." He suddenly rejected my earlier statements about him being fictional.

How am I supposed to make him believe? This really frustrating.

"My world exists like your world." He added.
For now, I'll pretend that his fairytale world is true. I repeat... for now.
Throughout the whole night all I did was tell him how this world was like. He just seemed so astonished. His glistening eyes were solid proof. Eventually, when I fetched us something to eat, he fell asleep.

"I should be getting some sleep too." I murmured to myself.
I instinctively checked my phone and realized my parents were looking for me. I totally forgot to tell them where I was.
I lied and told them I had to stay overnight at a friend's house because of something important. They did not suspect anything else after my message and just wished me goodnight.

~*~*~*~

How could he be real? How?! It is not possible. It can't be possible. M-maybe he is some wacko theater actor, but he looks exactly the same as the illustration... Maybe the drawing was based from this person right before me. Maybe this is all part of a huge televised prank show. Ah!!! He is definitely driving me nuts! I know I am such a big fantasy story lover but I can’t seem to take this all in right now.

I carefully crawled up to him and hesitantly touched his right cheek. He must be some actor... he has flawless skin. Jaejoong seems to be really cared for. He probably is the model for that illustration... but how come it was only him who had a picture out of all the characters especially the 'Cinderella' in the story?

He was also too awed that he is in this world. Who are you Kim Jaejoong?
I simply stared at him the whole time until he woke up. I hurriedly went back to my position and pretended I was too fixated at the television set.

"There is no need in pretending, I know you were taking a glimpse of my beautifully sculpted facial features." He blurted.

What!? What did he just say? I released a heavy, heavy sough. Keep your cool Eunji. Just chill.

“You sure are full of yourself huh? I guess with that attitude you won’t be able to see the Real World.” I rebutted as I confidently folded my arms.

Prince Kim Jaejoong instantly shut up. I sarcastically smiled at him and told him to dress up in his clothes last night. Our outfits were somewhat dry but not to the extent that we were both comfortable wearing it.
We left the bath house and wandered around the area. The fictional prince was all over the place. He kept looking at and touching random things. Aigoo, this is going to be a long day as well.

I need to get home now. I have to take another bath and change clothes and get myself some more money. I spent almost all of my allowance for the week last night. I can’t believe it was all wasted just for this man. I glanced at the preoccupied, beaming prince. I immediately felt like time stopped.

This prince… the prince I wished that would be real is here, in the flesh. Why can’t I just accept him and stop wondering how he got here? Why am I acting this way? This is what I wanted right? I mentally slapped my face and brought myself back to reality.

I noticed some high school girls swooning over Jaejoong. Even if he was wearing that embarrassing outfit he still stole girls’ attention. Props to him then.

When he wasn’t too busy attending to women I came up to him and told him that we will go somewhere. I led him towards the street leading to my house… My house… Shoot! I can’t let my mom see him! They don’t know this guy and I’ll bring him home? That’s a big no, no. What should I do then? Hmm… where can I take him? Wait… I know!

~*~*~*~

“Jihun!” I called out.
With a confused expression he questioned, “Eunji… isn’t your day off today?”

I grinned at him, “Yes it is… I just need to ask a favor from you if it is alright with you.”

“A favor? No problem, what is it?” my co-worker wondered.

“I need you to ‘adopt’ someone.” I vaguely uttered.

Jihun’s brows met, “I don’t understand…”

“You see… I have this friend from… from… Bucheon and he will be trying out for college here in Seoul. He has no place to go so I was wondering if he could stay at the back room of the book store and in return he will work here for free until he goes back home or when he finds another place to stay at.” I ‘creatively’ informed him.

“Uhm… it’s okay with me but did you ask Mr. Shim?”

“Let’s just keep it between us… Please?” I begged him and added a wink.

“Aish.” He paused and glared at me, “Alright, but just in case Mr. Shim finds out…You have to take all the blame…” he stated his condition.

“Yes, yes!” I bobbed my head like a cute puppy, “Thank you!!!” I hugged him tight. I just hope Mr. Yoon, the owner of this bookstore, won’t find out. I actually don’t want to be fully responsible if he discovers.

After I let go, he asked Jaejoong’s whereabouts, “So where is your friend?”

“Oh right!” I scurried outside and called the prince.

Kim Jaejoong proudly paraded himself within the aisles of the store still in his medieval clothing.

“I am Prince Kim Jaejoong from the Land of Sarang!” he pursued, “It is nice of you to let me stay here peasant!” he exclaimed.

My eyes widened the moment he finished his short speech. I looked over at Jihun and he was sort of insulted at the same time bewildered.

I rushed over to my co-worker, “I am sorry about that Jihun, he’s from a theater club back at his hometown and recently he was casted as a prince.” I lied.

He chuckled, “What?! So he just came from a play and went straight here?” and pertained to Jaejoong’s outfit.
I meekly nodded my head and shot dagger-looks at the prince.

“Well then… Welcome Prince Kim Jaejoong from the Land of Sarang! I am pleased to be here in your presence.” He played along.

“Thank you peasant! Now, where should I stay at this knowledge-filled place?” he asked.

“My name is Han Jihun kind prince. I shall show you the way to your quarters!” my co-worker directed him to the backroom.

It wasn’t long before Jihun came back out. I informed him that I will be going home for a while and if he could look after Jaejoong until I return. He agreed and I immediately ran out the store.

I went straight home and weird enough my mom did not even ask how did the ‘important task I needed to do’ go.
What’s wrong with my parents? Anyway I did what I have to do and secretly fetched Jaejoong some clothes from my dad’s closet. I made sure I chose the clothes he wasn’t fond of wearing. I placed them neatly in my bag and just when I was about to dash out the door of my parents’ room I remembered something.

“Does he need underwear too?” I talked to myself.

Does he wear ‘modern’ underwear? Does he even have underwear? I mentally slapped myself before my thoughts went out of hand… If you know what I mean. Aigoo, I guess I’ll have to bring him some just to be sure.
I dragged my feet towards my father’s drawer and looked for untouched underwear. I know he always keeps newly bought spare underwear here somewhere. Before anything else, I can’t believe I am actually rummaging my dad’s underwear drawer… This is so awkward, seriously.

After long uncomfortable minutes I finally found a pair of new boxers. I hope everything I ‘stole’ fits him.

“Honey… what are you going to do with your dad’s boxers?” my mom suddenly popped out of nowhere.

I literally froze in place, trying to come up with an excuse.

“Uhm… Uhm… He called me a while ago and ordered me to look for it.” What a lame excuse.
“Why?” she added.
“He-he thought he lost it…” I continued being dishonest.
“Really? He just wanted you to check? That’s strange, why didn’t he ask me instead?” My mother wondered.
“Maybe he doesn’t want to bother you mom.” I beamed at her.
“Alright then, I’ll be making some breakfast, what would you like to have?” she casually asked me.
“I-I won’t be eating here mom. I-I promised to help out at the library today. They need me there early.” I couldn’t stop lying.

“I’ll cook quickly so you won’t have to spend-“ I cut her off, “It’s okay mom. I’ll just buy food.” I insisted.
“Fine. If you need me I’ll be outside washing clothes.” My mom stated and finally left their room.

Whew! That was close. I hope she did not get too suspicious. I threw in the underwear and zipped the bag. I ran back to my room and grabbed extra money from my safety box and proceeded outside. Before I fled I kissed my mom good-bye, then I hurriedly made my way out the streets.

I found myself running so fast. So I halted and rested for a few seconds.
“Why the heck am I rushing?” I muttered.

When I got back I saw Jihun teaching the fictional prince on how to handle the store and its customers. He seemed to be a fast learner because he already knew how to work the cash register. I excused Jaejoong for a moment to give him my father’s clothes.

“Here. You can wear this from the mean time. Until we find you better clothing.” I handed him the leather bag containing my dad’s belongings.

“I have to wear outfits similar to your people?” he was surprised.

“Of course! If you want to become part of this society, you have to act, dress, talk and think like we do.” I informed him.

“Are you preposterous woman? These are ugly.” He pertained to the shirts and pants.
I was appalled by his statement, “Excuse me Prince Kim Jaejoong. FYI those clothes look decent enough for somebody to wear in this world.”

“F…Y…I?” he was new to the abbreviation.

“For your information, that’s what it stands for.” I explained with so much irritation, “Just wear something, okay?” I muttered and went out the room.

After a few minutes Jaejoong appeared in front of us. My dad’s clothes didn’t exactly fit him well. Jihun had scanned the prince. I noticed him grin, “You don’t seem to have that much of a fashion sense huh?” he questioned.

I was affected because I was actually the one who picked that for him, but then again it’s from my father’s so I really had no choice.

“Fashion sense?” the fictional man wondered.

“Well, I have extra clothes at home. I could bring you some…” he pursued, “Don’t you have shoes with you?” Jihun seemed to have noticed Jaejoong’s footwear. I couldn’t lend him a pair since my dad uses all his shoes.

My co-worker suddenly switched his attention to me, “Are you sure this friend of yours is going to try out for college?” he queried and instinctively raised an eyebrow.

“W-what do-do you mean?” I stuttered.

“Maybe he ran away from home!” he alleged.

I shift my gaze at Kim Jaejoong who was too busy examining his clothing, “Uhm… Of course not! Haha! He just… he just lost his luggage on the way here… That’s all.” There is endless lying today… sheez.

“You lost your luggage?” Jihun glanced back at him.
“I lost my horse.” Jaejoong confusingly answered.
“Horse?” I feel that my co-worker is already suspicious.

“Look at the time! I need to run an errand for mom. I’ll see you later Jihun. Please take good care of Jaejoong. Don’t mind whatever weird things he will be telling you. He still got drama hangover! Annyeong!” I excused myself and flee from the bookstore before he could interrogate us further.

I sprinted as far away as I could. I have to figure things out quickly before everything goes out of hand. By the way, Yoon Eunji, what the hell is drama hangover? I am really bad at lying. Aigoo.
Anyway, I visited the public library to get the ‘investigation’ started, “Good morning Mrs. Joo!” I greeted the moment she came in sight.

“Hello Eunji. Are you looking another book?” she casually asked while placing a pile of books on a wooden pushcart.

“Uhm, actually I am here to tell you that I took out a book without going through the check-out counter. I am sorry.” I confessed.

“Oh, is that so?” she replied.

“Well, I was gonna but no one was there. I needed to leave badly, so I took the book without anyone’s consent.”
Mrs. Joo giggled, “It’s alright dear. Don’t worry about it. Why don’t you ‘formally’ borrow that book then?” she suggested.

“Right…” I smiled at her and proceeded to the counter.

“Good morning.” The clerk greeted, “May I have your book please?”
I handed the book over to her and she did the usual procedures, then I noticed the female clerk having a bewildered reaction.

“Is there a problem?” I asked.
She gazed back at me, “Well, it seems the computer is not recognizing this book. It did not have a bar code so I tried typing the title and the version of the book but still it won’t accept it.”

Mrs. Joo overheard her and came up to us, “Let me see it.”

The employee gave it to her. She began examining the book. A confused expression was painted on her face.
“I have never seen this book before.” She informed.

I responded with a “What?!”

“Where did you get this?” Mrs. Joo questioned as she keenly scanned it.

“It was at the Fantasy Romance section.” I answered.

The middle-aged lady clicked her tongue, “I have never seen this new version of the book before.”

I don’t get it…

“You see, we do have My Cinderella copies here, but as far as I know they never released a new version of it.” She recalled as her brows met.

“I also noticed there wasn’t a publisher ma’am.” The clerk blurted.

“Th-tha-that’s impossible.” I stated.

“Eunji, can you direct me to the exact place you saw this?” Mrs. Joo requested.

I nodded my head and led the way. I showed her the shelf where I think it fell from. As a librarian she knows every book that comes in here. She told me she never saw this book, and then I recounted what happened that night leaving out the part wherein it was shining and when I found the prince. Mrs. Joo then handed me their copies of it. There weren’t any illustrations whatsoever and no image of Jaejoong anywhere.

I was truly dumbfounded afterwards. I apologized to them for the bother. The kind librarian allowed me to actually keep the book. This is hopeless… how am I supposed to know that prince’s real identity?
I began walking in defeat. I couldn’t accept the fact they think the new version of the book never existed. How?! Why? Though, I don’t remember the bookstore selling that version either. Ugh! My head is hurting from all this thinking.

Before I went back to the prince I grabbed lunch.
“Here’s your Bibimbap.” The waitress placed the hot meal in front of me.
I bowed my head and thanked her. I snatched my metal chopsticks and started attacking the food like a mad person. I am just too frustrated that I am venting it out on my meal. I pity myself.
It wasn’t raining yet when I saw him, so it is impossible that he would be soaked, but he was. How come I wasn’t able to see him in the library the whole time? Why is he talking weird too? Is he really the prince? I continued munching on my food.

If he is then… how? I mean… it is seriously not logical. I snatched my phone from my pocket and looked him up at the internet. I searched for any actor who played Prince Kim Jaejoong’s role. After a few minutes of browsing and eating, I got nothing. No actor who did a play on the story looked like Jaejoong, plus the last play that took place was like last 2008. It’s been a long time then. Subsequently I looked for the new version of the book. There weren’t any related results coming up at all. This is crazy.

I fled the small restaurant and made my way back to the bookstore with a puzzled visage. When I returned I found the two getting along very well.
“Hey Eunji. You’re back. I just finished ‘training’ Jaejoong here. He sure is a fast learner.” Jihun mentioned.
“Thank you, thank you.” Jaejoong turned a little red. That was a first.
“By the way, I also noticed that your friend doesn’t have a phone with him. So I guess I’ll lend him my old one.” My co-worker added.

“Jihun… You are too kind.” I hung my head low.

He drew near me and placed his hand on my shoulder, “Hey, don’t worry about it. It’s the least I could do…”
I kept my focus on the ground and waited for him to go away. Once I glanced up I saw Jaejoong staring at me with surprisingly concerned eyes.

~*~*~*~

“Are you sure you are staying?” Jihun reassured.

I meekly bobbed my head and I got a smile in return, “Well then, take care.” He bid good-bye and exited from the back door.

I spun around and Jaejoong was sort of glaring at me. I tried not to make eye-contact and carefully sat beside him.

“Sorry if we only have a couch for you. I pretty sure your bed is way bigger than this one, and please don’t be afraid to feel at home.” I uttered as I played with my hands.

“What’s your relationship with Jihun?” he questioned all of a sudden.

“Wh-what? He is a close friend of mine.” I hesitantly replied.

“The way he looked upon you a while ago was very unlikely.” Jaejoong noticed.

“What are you talking about?” I awkwardly laughed in the end.

“Is it possible you two had romantic feelings towards one another?”

I beamed at him, “T-that’s silly!” I kept denying.

“Fine I will no longer insist.” The fictional prince stopped.

Just when he did not want to talk about it I actually had the urge to tell him, “Uhm… well. We used to go out together.” I confessed.

“Go out?” he was puzzled with my use of words.

“Oh… right. I meant we used to, how do I put this? We used to date.” I attempted to clarify.

His brows met, “Date?”

“We liked each other.” I hope that is simple enough for him to understand.

He suddenly glanced away, “So how come it seems now you both act as if nothing happened?” What is with this man and his words?

Well, I decided to tell him why Jihun and I fell out of love. When I started working at the bookstore he was already an employee. We got along very well and the rest would probably be all those cliché things that might happen in a relationship. I fast forward to the time where Jihun realized that he never really saw me as his lover. Yes, I was just a sister to him, like how all those crappy sad love stories end.

“That is a very wretched story. I feel sorry for you and Jihun.” He comforted me. I think that was what he was attempting to do.

“Nah, it’s okay. It was better he told me or else we would just be fooling ourselves.” I uttered, giggling a bit.

“How about you? What is your relationship with Kwon Shinhye?” I was pertaining to the Cinderella of the story he
is in.

“She is the loveliest woman I know.” He answered straightly.

“I actually envy her you know?” I kept the conversation flowing.

“Why so?”

“Well, she has you.” There wasn’t hesitation in my tone. Although I am shocked I was able to say that.

The fictional prince was surprised too. He had nothing to reply after my statement. I don’t know why I told him that though. Maybe, I am starting to believe he and his world exists? Now that I think of it, is he here because I wished for it or because of something else? Nevertheless I am really happy he is right in front of me. I guess I should quit
finding out how he got here for a while and just enjoy his presence.

When I was about to be lost in my thoughts I heard a weird sound.

“Haven’t you eaten yet?” Jaejoong politely asked.

“Uhm… I haven’t had dinner yet.” I chuckled as I scratched my head.

“If so, we must find you supper.” He suggested as he sprung up.

“Right.” I agreed.

We securely locked the back entrance of the bookstore and I led him the way to a convenient store nearby. As we walked side by side I began narrating to him more about this world –how people’s lifestyles here differ-, and of course he still seemed so fascinated.

The both of us were halfway there when Jaejoong flinched, “That woman is !” he exclaimed referring to a random girl sporting short shorts and a cute sheer sleeveless top.

“No-no she is no-” Jaejoong stopped me and impulsively snatched the cardigan I am wearing.

“You must not travel with no clothes on!” He scolded the dazed lady as he covered her upper body.
I was too ashamed to be seen with this man right here but I have to prevent him from humiliating his self further,

“Jaejoong, this is what some of Real World Women often wear.” I murmured.

“What?! You call this clothing?” he couldn’t believe it. Sheesh the girls swooning over him earlier were dressed up similar to hers, how come he didn’t notice them? Anyway, I apologized to the young lady, took back my cardigan and dragged the confused Kim Jaejoong away.

“You didn’t have to do that!” I reprimanded him this time.
“She doesn’t know what she was doing!” he answered back trying to let go from my grip.
“I told you that it is but normal to have that outfit on.” I kept reiterating.
“That is preposterous! What kind of morals do you have?” he kept fighting back.
I had it with him!

I abruptly spun around and stared him in the eyes, “Look Mister Prince Jaejoong… If you don’t shut up, I will make sure you’ll never see daylight again.” I warned him.

The lost prince froze and submitted to me anxiously. I turned and headed towards the store, leaving him behind. Jaejoong then cautiously trailed behind me with his head hung low.

Maybe I overreacted… I halted and glanced back at him, “We are here.” I muttered.

He looked me in the eye, “You should never talk like that towards a prince like me--” I cut him off, “I am sorry about that I should have controlled my temper more.” I apologized even if I don’t think I should.

I did not wait for a response and fled inside the store. The prince soon followed.

“What do you usually eat?” I questioned as my eyes scanned the shelves.

“Well, back home we eat roasted lambs, beef stews, blanched vegetables and some fruits. Oh yes, as well as cakes and pastries.” He narrated but I had to disregard everything he said and offered, “Ramen.”

“What?”
“Do you want some Ramen?” I repeated showing him the red packaging.

“What in the world is that?” he reacted.

“It is food.” I glared at him.

“H-how do you cook that thing?” Jaejoong wondered.

I soughed and told him that it just needs hot water poured over it, cover and it’s ready in a few minutes. As expected the prince was amazed at the instant-ness of the meal. He then agreed to try it.

I sat beside the waiting Jaejoong and handed him a drink, “Here.”

“Thank you.” He pursued, “Is this thing ready yet?”

I nodded my head and peeled off the cover for him, I gave some wooden chopsticks and I did the same to mine. I began chomping down the instant noodles while he just watched me.

I became uncomfortable so I attended to him, “W-what’s wrong?”

“Ho-how do you use this?” he was pertaining to the chopsticks.

Oh right… he is more used to using Western utensils. I smiled at him and taught him the basics. He still couldn’t get the hang of it so I had to request for a fork from the counter. Just minutes after he began eating he stared at me again.

“What now?!” I stated with much irritation.
“H-how do you open this?” he was now pertaining to the soda bottle.
“You twist the cap to open.” I demonstrated with my drink. He tried mimicking my movement. “It won’t twist.” He complained.

“Put more strength.” I guided.

After a few struggles he finally opened the bottle. Congratulations Jaejoong, you know how to open a bottle. The prince carefully drank from it and his eyes widened.

“This beverage is astounding!” he exclaimed, “It tickles my throat in such an exciting way!”

I awkwardly grinned at him, “It is.”

In so much awe he couldn’t help but drink the whole thing, “H-hey you haven’t even finished your Ramen.” I noticed.

“I just couldn’t stop drinking it!” he stated with so much glee, “Can I have more?” he requested.
“You won’t be able to finish your food if I buy you another.” I scolded.
“But this rubbish is too spicy.” He complained.

“Hey people love this stuff and you’re calling it rubbish?” I was sort of offended.
“Yes.” He confirmed.
“You’re Korean aren’t you?” I queried.
“Korean?”

“Your racial heritage is Korean right? I mean, your name is Korean.” I clarified.
“I-I am a Sarangham.” The prince replied with a race I have never heard before.
“What the heck is a Sarangham?” is that even mentioned in the book? I grabbed the rectangular object and scanned its pages. It is not here.

“It is our race.”  He simply answered.
“Alright. Fine. However we Koreans love Ramen, if you wanna enjoy this place you must learn to love it.” I explained.
“If I must.” He ended and started finishing his meal.

~*~*~*~

“This beverage is really amazing!” he kept on reiterating the whole trip back.
“Yes. It is.” I agreed.
“This world of yours... It is really bright even at night isn’t it?” Jaejoong changed the topic.

“Yup if it weren’t for those lights everything would look so gloomy and dark.” I uttered as I looked around.
“It’s weird though… Your world does not have stars?” he wondered as he kept glancing up.
“Well, with so many lights in the city you won’t be able to see the stars.” I explained.
“Where is hit hiding then?” he asked.

I laughed at his cute question, “There are only some specific places where you can see stars.”
“That is a sad story to hear. In the Land of Sarang the stars are the most beautiful things up in the sky. I always gaze at them through my large window before I lay to rest.” The prince narrated, still finishing his soda.

The whole time he was speaking I was simply staring at him. The way he talks about his world with a very calm face is mesmerizing. It’s like I just want him to keep going as I gape at him discretely.

“Eunji.” I snapped back to my senses when I heard someone call my name.

“Eunji is your name right?” Jaejoong suddenly asked.

“Uhm, yes.” I confusingly nodded.

“It is a very beautiful name for such a beautiful woman.” He complimented.

That’s right; I haven’t really introduced myself to him formally. Silly me. Anyway, “Thank you.”

“Hey, want so see some stars?” I questioned him as I was reminded of the perfect place.
“I thought you said--” I interrupted Jaejoong, “I know an area where you can see them.” I shared.

“Well, then, take me there.” He agreed.

I led the way and somewhat toured him around the place as we were proceeding to our destination. We snuck in an elementary school playground and climbed up the huge red slide.

I looked around for a few seconds and, “There! It’s over there.” I pointed towards our left.
“I don’t see any stars…” he stated.
“No, don’t glance at the clouds. It’s on a tall billboard.” I directed him.
“Billboard?”

“Yes, that bright one over there!” I continued pointing at it.

The prince soon found the bright advertisement and folded his arms in such a poised manner, “Those aren’t stars.”
“They are representations of stars.” I argued.
“Representations?”

“You see that is an ad for an observatory deck somewhere around this place.” I pursued assuming he doesn’t know what an observatory deck and an ad is, “An observatory deck is where you can see any astronomical related things and an advertisement is something used to let people know there is such a place or to make more people come and visit.”

“Oh, is that so? Well, I guess I could settle for that ad.” Jaejoong uttered.

“Those stars right there are forming the constellation Cassiopeia.” I informed.

“Why yes it does, doesn’t it?” The prince beamed. I-I never seen him smile like that before.

“I usually come here when I am stressed from school and look at those fake stars. It still relaxes me though even if it is not the real thing.” I shared as I laid eyes on it.

“It is quite relaxing.” He couldn’t agree more.

“If I could remember clearly… Your famous line in the book was something like…” I pursued, “My dear Kwon Shinhye, you are like Cassiopeia. Your beauty cannot be matched but both inside and out.” As I uttered his line I could not help but get Goosebumps.

“I did say that wonderful comparison. It is but the truth.” His grin was simply plastered on his face.
Kim Jaejoong, the perfectly depicted man is so human right in front of me. These feels are still surreal but in a very good way. Gazing at the constellation turned out to be more special tonight.

“There is something an extremely bright light inside your bag.” The prince noticed.

“W-what?” I checked my bag and did find the object shining.

I fetched the book and was simply awed. It lit up in different colors but with a very predominant maroon hue. I wonder why this is happening now… Wait is he going back now? No, not now, I-I haven’t had enough time to get to know him more. I am not ready. It cannot be good-bye, it is too soon.

I glanced at Jaejoong and his eyes told me that our thoughts were somewhat mutual. I was non-verbally telling him good-bye. I am actually in the verge of crying and I don’t know why.

In a matter of minutes the book stopped glowing. What was that? Was it a sign that Jaejoong’s time is coming to an end in probably a few hours? No… Please no.

~*~*~*~

So I began living everyday like it was my last with the prince. I really don’t know when the exact day or time we will part but it has been weeks since that day and nothing had happened.

Aside from Prince Kim Jaejoong’s overconfidence and endless bickering he was seriously alright to hang out with. We kept exchanging stories about our lives and it seemed our conversations went on forever. He still hasn’t got the way us people in the Real World talk but he is learning.

I should not forget to mention his innocence. It was his first time riding a bus going back to work and was he so dumbfounded. He also stated it was more convenient than their horses and carriages. It was cozier too. The only problem is, it won’t take him to the exact place he wants to head off to. Unlike back at his world, he gets to his destination without ever taking two trips or more however it is more time consuming. Duh, he is the Prince from the Land of Sarang he really won’t have a rough time travelling now would he?

Jaejoong is very noble. He has great concern for other people’s needs –like a usual monarch in fairytales- He is humble except when we stumble upon the topic about his gifted features. He gladly boasts about it.

It truly is so good to be true. Being with someone you read in a book, plus trying your hardest to make yourself believe he actually exists and most of all… slowly falling for him.

Yes it is the sad truth. Why sad? Even if I said I do believe he is real I couldn’t help but doubt. What if I wake up form this too tangible dream? What if one day I go to work and not find him there? What if he did come from some remote mental hospital? What will happen then?

Besides all that, he already has Kwon Shinhye, his dear princess. I am no princess. I don’t fit anywhere near him actually.

“Do you miss home?”
“I am not quite sure what to answer.”

That’s what he keeps telling me whenever I ask if he actually misses his own world. I don’t know why he couldn’t tell me what he purely feels. I bet something has been bothering him lately.

“Welcome!” the prince greeted the new customer coming in.
I just observed him from where I was –arranging books on a shelf near the front door- and I never got tired stealing glances.

“Your friend is doing pretty well now.” Jihun suddenly appeared behind my back.
“Yes, I guess he does.” I beamed at my co-worker.
“He is actually attracting a lot of women. For the past weeks I have been seeing the same people coming every other day and some almost every day.” He shared.

Now that he mentioned it, there are more females coming in the store than the usual. I glance back at Jaejoong and saw him act very shy towards the paying customers. A side of him I haven’t seen before. How come he just bickers around me and never sheepish?
“Hey.”

Anyway at least those women are sort of forced to buy books here, more income for the store then. But what if he actually gets enticed to one girl?

“Eunji.”

Nah, that would be impossible since he already has a princess; come to think of it though I never really asked if he was madly in love with that princess. Should I ask him?

“Yoon Eunji!”
“W-what?!” I snapped back to my senses and realized Jihun was still talking to me.
“Stop staring at him and get back to work.” He scolded.

Oh yes, was I looking at Jaejoong for that long?
“Wow, you’re turning really red.” Jihun chuckled and then walked away.

I don’t think it’s right if I ask him how much he loves her. It’s just not proper. However I really do want to know. If he answers that he is really affectionate about her wouldn’t I just risk hurting myself? I do need assurance if I have a chance of him accepting my feelings. Wait, who am I kidding? A fictional prince to fall in love with some “Real World” girl; it can pass as a romantic fantasy story but not in reality.

~*~*~*~

It’s heartwarming to see such a pure smile as my ears tingle whenever I hear such a boisterous laugh. It’s relaxing to feel such a gentle touch. The taste of his lips lingers on mine. I yearn for him every single second of my existence.

“What are you so occupied about?” his soft yet cold voice echoed in my ears.
“It’s a newly published book…” his lips were forming a shy smile.
“You really fancy reading don’t you?”
“Yes I do.” I turned to him and accidentally focused on his thin plump lips.

It’s relaxing to feel such a gentle touch.
To touch…

“Wh-what are you trying to do Eunji?”
To feel his skin touching mine gently…
“Why are you acting this way?”

To… to taste his lips…
“You are giving me a scare Eunji.”
My hand on the left side of his face. My hand–
“Aigoo! I am really sorry! I didn’t mean to…” What was I doing?!

“What were you attempting to do to me?” he questioned, still a little frightened.
“N-nothing!” I stuttered in the verge of trying to excuse myself, “I-I thought you h-had d-dirt on your che-cheeks…”

“Really?” Jaejoong touched his left cheek instantly.

Aish! Aish! What was I doing? Yoon Eunji what did you just do? I couldn’t help but slap my bad hand while he was busy searching the imaginary dirt on his face.

“Sorry I have to arrange more new arrivals at the back. Excuse me.” I bowed and childishly ran to the back room to hide my shame.

I should be more careful next time. How can I possibly act normal around him then after pulling that off? I don’t think I could even dare look him straight in the eye. I think I am going to die.

~*~*~*~

“So you are telling me that this little drink can be unhealthy?”

“Well, that’s what other people say.”

“How come this beverage is so delicious but it is very harmful?” Jaejoong kept examining the carbonated drink.
“That is the irony of it. It makes you feel happy when consuming it but then kills you inside…slowly!” I threatened the naïve prince.

Succeeding with my attempt, the prince got startled. I gazed at him as I laughed. He looks really scared. “You should be careful…” I added with such a grieving tone.

The prince stood up and cleared his throat, “If I must die. Then I should!”

My eyes widened, “Yah! What are you saying?”

Kim Jaejoong ignored me and went back in the convenience store. I clumsily scurried to keep up with him. The prince went over the counter and placed a liter of Cola on the counter top.

“Yah… what are you-”

“I shall buy this please.” He firmly stated.

The cashier punched the numbers on the register and printed out a receipt. The prince handed over his exact bill subsequently opening the bottle and attempting to drink the contents in one go.

“Yah!!! What  are you doing?!”

“If I am going to die by drinking this carbonated drink one container at a time, why don’t I just consume this large container and hasten my death a hundred times. At least I have enjoyed this last beverage infinitely.” And he went on gulping that liter of Cola.

“Yah! I was kidding. You won’t die instantly after drinking that…” I scratched my head, “I don’t think you can even die by just drinking that… Can you?” I murmured in the end while very unsure of my own baseless words.

Managing to hear me his face darkened, “What? You are telling me lies then?”

“I don’t know!!!” I exclaimed.

I can’t help but feel the cashier’s concerned stare so I turned to him and bowed my head as an apology. By the look on his face he is definitely weirded out. I then pushed the prince out of the store.

 “Why did you do that!?”

“These things are really addictive.” He honestly stated still drinking the large bottle.

“I-I thought you were really going to die! You shouldn’t have done that!” I scolded him.

“Excuse me, but I think I heeded you say that your statements weren’t factual at all?” he rebutted still giving the beverage a wack.

“Still…” I snuffled.

Jaejoong stopped in-taking the carbonated drink and fully attended to me, “Eunji… are you crying?”

“No-no… of course not.” I glanced away.

“Eunji I feel perfectly fine. I am not going to die. Why are you making a fuss about this?” he questioned attempting
to look me in the eye.

I couldn’t answer him. I was busy tending to my falling tears. Why am I crying?
“Eunji. Look at me please.”

I carefully turned to him and noticed something different. Is my eyesight getting blurry from sobbing? I blinked
numerous times and I still couldn’t see Jaejoong clearly… what’s happening?

“Eunji…”

I rubbed my eyes constantly. I-I don’t think it’s because of my tears… Is he? Is he? No… don’t go back yet. I lightly brushed my hand over his but it seems like I can’t grasp anything. No.

“Please don’t cry.”

“No… don’t leave me please.” I shed more tears.
“I said I won’t. Why are you being ridiculous?”

I closed my eyes and water continued dripping. This is not happening right now. Not now. I haven’t told him what I feel… No.

“Yoon Eunji.”

I carefully opened my eyes and found the prince holding both my shoulders. It’s relaxing to feel such a gentle touch. Jaejoong is wearing such an anxious expression. Is he really worried about me?

“I am sorry.” I bowed.

“What’s the matter? I wish to know.” He insisted releasing me from his comforting grasp.

“It’s nothing.”

“You don’t want to talk about it?” the prince questioned.

I bobbed my head from left to right. Jaejoong released a heavy sough still gazing at me with so much concern. I dried my wet cheeks and shot him a meek smile so he would stop worrying.

I really thought he was gone for good. Yes, I am overreacting but...I just couldn't help it. Even if I was preparing myself for this I was still caught off guard. It means it doesn’t matter how much I prepare my mental and emotional state it will still bring pain. Am I that desperate to find love? That I couldn’t let go of even a fictional character like him whom I haven’t really known down to his bones? Why are you like this Yoon Eunji?

~*~*~*~

The light disappeared making it the perfect chance to tell him, without seeing his reaction clearly. I don’t want to see him so concerned if he rejects me. I don’t want him to see me cry a tear or bite my lips in agony. Although I am unsure that he will not accept my feelings, I just think this is the best way for me to confess. That nothing would hinder my courage to tell.

“Are you sure it is alright for us to leave Jihun alone?”
“Well, he did say he’s going to be fine. Plus he really wanted you to learn that’s why he let you borrow his pair.” I reassured.

“Now grab my hands and we will slowly move forward.” I added.

The prince grabbed my hands, “This is safe?” his voice began quivering.

I nodded my head telling him to trust me, “I’m here anyway. You won’t fall.”

Jaejoong inhaled deeply as I helped him go forward. The park was pretty empty so it was easy to move with him around the area.

“I don’t see how exciting this is.” Jaejoong complained as he is having a hard time balancing himself on rollerblades.

“Of course as of now it seems to be a drag but once you get the hang of it… the feeling is infinite.” I grinned at him to ease his tensed aura.

 Step by step.

“I’ll let go okay?”
“I-I don’t think I am ready…” but then I still released my grip.
“Just keep your balance!” I shouted as he went on further.
The prince was definitely a fast learner, though he still wobbles but he is forgiven.

Step by step.

As Jaejoong got further my heart worried. He is gradually vanishing from my sight. Step by step he is disappearing with a huge beam plastered on his face. It hurts. I don’t think I could handle such pain…

Before I knew it, the prince was already on cold cement, calling my name. I rushed over to him and noticed his newly acquired bruise on his left wrist. I ask if, “What else is hurting?” and he answers me with, “Nothing else, just this small wound.”

I helped him up and sat him down the bench where our belongings were. I changed to my sneakers and ran to the nearest drug store. Minutes passed and I started treating his wound the second I came back.

“Thank you.” He blurted.
Still focused on cleaning his wound, “What for?”
“For being good to a stranger like me.” The prince warmly stated.

I stopped for a moment, “You are no stranger to me.” and then continued.
“Even though... I am very thankful.” He insisted.
“You are welcome.”
“I will long for these instances once I get back to my castle.” After putting on a small bandage I froze.

What is he trying to say?

“I don’t know when I will come back but I sense it is near.” He pursued, “I will truly miss you Yoon Eunji.”
“I wouldn’t have survived the Real World if I did not meet you.”
“Stop.” I looked at him a bit teary eyed already.

Jaejoong suddenly wore a puzzled expression. I sat properly and continued, “Your sweet words… they are painful to hear.”
“If you keep on telling me things like that… It will be difficult for me to let you go. It’s going to be a huge struggle for me to see you leave.”

“Eunji.”

“Please don’t call my name…” I glanced away hiding my pouring tears. Why am I being like this?

Warmth… Why is it so warm?

I soon realize I was locked in Jaejoong’s tight embrace. Why is he—

“I am truly sorry for making you feel this way. I don’t mean to…” he started apologizing.

“It’s not your fault,” I sniffled, “I wished for you to come alive… and it came true. I guess it is just right to pay the price.”

“What lunatic statements are coming out of your lips.” He soughed, “You should not say such things. I wished to see this world too.”

“You don’t understand.” Did you also wish to meet a Real World girl like me? We have different purposes…

Jaejoong soon released me wearing a worried expression. I dried my eyes with my bare hands and gazed away. I can’t believe I just broke down in front of him.

“Eunji… do you?” the prince seemed like he couldn’t finish.

“Yes, I like you…” I blurted as I instinctively sprung up.

As expected, the prince had nothing else to say. I know he never intended to make me fall but since he is my dream guy I couldn’t help it. It’s definitely crazy when you think about it… a pigment of someone’s imagination… I like someone else’s fantasy man.

“Did you guys hear?” Jihun cleared his throat for a second and continued, “There will be a solar eclipse a few days from now. The elders said this one will bring good luck.”

“We should go witness it then!” Jaejoong suggested with such an innocent visage.

“That’s a great idea! We definitely need some luck, right Eunji?” Jihun reacted.

I simply bobbed my head, pretending I was actually happy about the news. Right now, my emotions are jumbled. I couldn’t quite figure out what I am feeling. I could definitely tell the prince is staring at me without even looking. He really shouldn’t be sorry. He clearly didn’t do anything wrong.

“I’ll go continue rearranging the books in the display case.” Jihun stated and went to his spot.

Kim Jaejoong then placed his hand over mine. I removed my hand instantly and headed to the back room. Sadly, he did not follow me there. I know I don’t want to talk about him leaving but why does it seem I am the one who’s greatly affected by this? It you know.

“Eunji.”
“Eunji is your name right?”
“Uhm, yes.”
“It is a very beautiful name for such a beautiful woman.”
“Those stars right there are forming the constellation Cassiopeia.”
“Why yes it does, doesn’t it?”
“I usually come here when I am stressed from school and look at those fake stars. It still relaxes me though even if it is not the real thing.”
“It is quite relaxing.”

“If I could remember clearly… Your famous line in the book was something like…” I pursued, “My dear Kwon Shinhye, you are like Cassiopeia. Your beauty cannot be matched but both inside and out.”
“I did say that wonderful comparison. It is but the truth.”

Why did I even read you in the first place…Why? If you just told me that things will turn out like this, I would have dropped you and looked for a new one instead.

Wait why am I even talking to a book? Aigoo…

My eyes suddenly drifted to the constellation on a metal board. What should I do? Can one of you stars tell me the future? Wait, I can’t believe I am talking to inanimate objects.
A bright light temporarily blinded my eyes. After a few minutes of rubbing my eyes, I found the book losing its glow. I cautiously opened its pages and it led me to see a short handwritten message at the back of the book.

“It’s time.”

Judging from the calligraphy it dates back to Jaejoong’s “time” but the ink used seems to be really fresh. No signs of aging at all…comparing to those I have seen in the museum. Could it be that, someone’s trying to communicate with him through this book? H-how is that even possible? Nah, maybe some calligraphy expert just used this book for practice.

However Mrs. Joo did say she doesn’t remember this version being published… and what’s with that glowing a while back? Aigoo! I stared at the writing once more… It’s time. It’s time. It’s time!?

Does this mean? It’s not the eclipse yet right? I looked up in the sky and saw no unusual happening. I placed the book inside my bag and rushed to the bookstore.

This feeling of wanting to stop time just because it went by faster than I thought it would. I did not have all the time in the world to be with him. Now, I am wishing I could control it but it’s running out, running out real fast.

I headed to the back door and found it wide open. My heart thumped loud as I went inside. Why are his clothes all over the floor? Where could he gone off too? Did he disappear right here? No. No. Tears were building up waiting to be released.

His phone! Stupid! I forgot Jihun gave him his old phone. I looked for his number in the contacts and called him at once. A few attempts had pass but he is not picking up. Why? I am sure he did not leave it here… I began searching the place to look if he did leave it here.

I was in the middle of my searching when Jaejoong finally picked up.
“I am sorry if I took long to tend to this call, I still have a difficult time knowing how to answer.” His cold yet sweet voice echoed.

“Where are you?!” I couldn’t help but shout through the device.

“What is wrong Eunji? Why scream?” he questioned.

“I thought you left me.” Not being able to hold it in any longer, I began sobbing.

“I am baffled. I just went for a short stroll.” The prince answered still confused as can be.

“Stop scaring me like that…” I blurted out a randomly-related statement.

“A-are you i-in my quarters right this moment?”
“Yes.”
“Stay there. I shall come to you.” And he hung up.

I sat on the couch and calmed myself down. He is here. He hasn’t gone back yet. You have to relax Yoon Eunji. Don’t give yourself a heart attack. Stop panicking. Get yourself together okay?

It took him 10 minutes to arrive and he hurried towards me. Jaejoong scanned while wearing a very anxious expression. The prince was surprisingly wearing his elegant medieval outfit. Before questioning him though, I explained briefly that I thought he got transported back to his real home. The prince finally understood why I was acting that way earlier. He asked for forgiveness and shared that he was just simply missing Sarang so much. So he dressed up in his original clothes and took a leisure walk around the park. He fell in love with the Real World but as cliché as it might sound there is really no place like home.

After hearing that, I felt bad for wanting him to stay. He is contented here but he is better off in the other world. I don’t think I should let him sacrifice just for my own happiness. Tears begin dripping catching Jaejoong’s attention.

“What is bothering you now Eunji?” he questioned.
“It’s nothing...” an obvious lie came out my lips.
“You have not been yourself lately… I am sure something is clouding up your mind.” The prince pursued, “Is it because of the nearing eclipse?”

I meekly nodded my head. Jaejoong drew closer, "We are not yet certain that when the eclipse occurs, we shall part..."

But that is how he got here, I think it's also his way back. He continued, "The wise man did not inform me when I have to depart."

That is what's killing me Kim Jaejoong, the uncertainty of things. Do I have to suffer like this everyday? When will it end?

I am so unsure of what happened back there, but all I care about now is that Jaejoong is still here beside me. So the prince walked me home since it was getting late. He just wanted to make sure I was safe. He really couldn't ask guards to me back.

"I wanted to give you this earlier but I did not get the chance to." Jaejoong took something small out of his jeans' pocket and took my hand and placed it over my palm.

It was a star key chain. I couldn't help but form a smile. I glanced up and found him looking at me, differently. If eyes could melt a person, I have melted a long while ago.

"Do you recall that time you told me your true feelings?" he suddenly mentioned.
Why is he bringing this up again? I nodded my head slightly.
"I truly couldn't explain how it occured, however... I believe I feel the same way you do."

"W-what?" did my ears actually hear right?
"I like you Yoon Eunji."

He confessed with so much calmness, how the heck is he so chill about this... This dream boy of mine is freaking confessing to me. I don't know what to do!?

"How-how-h-how about Princess-" he cut me off.
"Yes, I like her but this emotion I am experiencing at this moment with you is so new. It feels different." The prince just stared depply into my eyes making me understand what he meant by liking me feel different.

"I never felt so many raging emotions at one time. Only with you. I am happy around her... It's just that I feel so alive with you. I feel so re- so real." Jaejoong slowly took my hand and intertwined his with mine. The experience is just so... enlightening. His hands were warm and made me feel secure.

"Until we truly part, we should rejoice and be together. Let us enjoy our last moments with each other."

Enjoy our last moments...together. It's so bittersweet to hear. Too bittersweet.

Things happen when you least expect it. I expected to be with the prince just a little more but unfortunately it is not happening. I am not sure if he will be transported back during the eclipse but I have to assume he will be right? Days passed and it was that certain day I was afraid to face.

Jihun, Jaejoong and I met at the observatory deck. It was not that jam packed with people but it was crowded enough. I saw the boys within the sea of astronomically intriguied people and waved at them with all my tip-toeing strength.

They both scurried over. "You look pretty in that dress Eunji." Jihun suddenly complimented me. "Aren't I right Jae?" he added as he gave the prince's arm a nudge.

He glanced at my friend for a moment and then answered, "Oh yes you are unique in that outfit." It didn't sound like a compliment but I guess he liked it too?

Jihun laughed, "You really talk weird." and pursued, "I'll go find us a spot and well, a telescope alright? You guys can wait here."

Jaejoong and I were left alone, we both proceeded to a more secluded area of the deck. I carefully handed him a bag with his clothes in it. He definitely hesitated for a moment but then took it anyway. I shot him a sincere beam while tears crawled down my cheeks. Prince Kim Jaejoong bit his lips and glanced away. This is not such a fairy tale good-bye.

Without warning the book inside my bag illuminated again. This time its color is pink. I wonder what all these colors mean... The book abruplty opened to a specific page.We both took a closer look. Words were appearing on a blank page from nowhere. The words soon formed a statement, it read: Man should know how to look back in the past...

Our eyes instantly met. No words, just non-verbal messages happened between us. Only a few more minutes before the eclipse starts. We ran out and down the stairs of observatory deck with our hands clasped tightly.

We headed for the library, where it all started. It was ten minutes away from there, usually a solar eclipse only lasts fifteen minutes. If we don't make it on time who knows what will happen. Jaejoong mentioned to me once that the Wise Man told him he couldn't be trapped in the Real World. It will cause imbalance. I don't know what that imbalance is but it sounds dangerous to both our worlds. Yes, I-I want him to stay... but he doesn't belong here.

Rain drops began falling on our heads and after seconds water poured down hard. We were both soaking wet but we kept running.

Prince Kim Jaejoong and I finally arrived at the back of the library. We tried to find shelter first before proceeding inside. I took out the unharmed book and it magically turned to the blank page. Words came out once again until it formed a statement: If fate is twisted a soul shall vanquish and imbalance will take over.

"Eunji what if I don't leave?" Jaejoong suddenly blurted as he continued catching his breath.
"You can't! It says here that 'if fate is twisted a soul will vanquish'! One of us might die." I exclaimed.
"That can't be... what if this is not our fate. Us parting? The Wise Man did not say someone will die..." the prince was in denial.

"You have to go Jaejoong. I can't let you die... What about your loved ones back at the Land of Sarang?! What about me? I will forever hate myself if something happens to you." I began tearing up.

"Eunji..."

"We have to go!" I shouted and grabbed his wrist. We snuck at the back entrance of the building and rushed to the exact place where I found him.

"Jae-" I glanced at the prince. Is he, is he v-va-vanishing?

Kim Jaejoong held my hands and looked into my eyes, "I-I am not sure if when come back to the Land of Sarang that I would still remember all of this. Now I realize I don't want to leave you behind... but if one us might perish I guess I need to leave..." water was forming in his eyes, "I want to tell you... that you will always be here, in my heart."

I shed more tears, "I will miss you..." I softly muttered.

The prince locked me in such a secure yet warm embrace, "I will long for you too my Real World Princess, Yoon Eunji. So please no longer envy Princess Kwon Shinhye..."

That moment, he felt so real, it wasn't like I was in a dream it was real. He is right... his world is as real as mine. My hands was wrapped around the small of his back while Jaejoong gradually captured my lips in a sweet kiss. This was no fantasy...no it was true to life.

His soft warm kiss temporarily mended the pain in my heart but as soon as our lips parted the bitterness lingered. I gazed back at the prince, slowly disappearing right before me.

"It was nice meeting you Eunji..." was the last statement he said until he finally left. I-I haven't even told him that I was glad I met him. He's gone. He's gone now. I hope you get back safely my Prince Kim Jaejoong.

I lifelessly dragged myself out of the library, the people's stares couldn't hold me back from walking out into nowhere. The drops of the rain danced together with my agonizing tears. No could hear or witness me cry... the storm was just too strong and too loud. I released all the bundled up emotions with the solemn rain.

Just like that... everything changes in a blink of an eye. I wish the incoming grieve pain would also just disappear in an instant.

~*~*~*~

The prince couldn't love anyone else but her. She was different, very different from the other princesses she met. In fact she wasn't even a princess at all, she was just a Real World girl.

"Wow unnie! That was a great story!" one of the children sitting on the mat exclaimed while the others were just in awe.

"It really is a great story." I agreed.

"Alright kids, your parents are waiting outside the room. Story time is up." Mrs. Joo entered and informed them.

"Thank you Eunji unnie for the story!" they shouted cheerfully in unison. They all left in a uniform line, like they were a mini marching band.

Mrs. Joo came up to me, "Thank you for filling up for Seungho. I am really grateful."
I beamed at the middle-aged lady as I fixed my belongings, "It's no problem Mrs. Joo. I think I should do this more often."
She giggled, "Then Seungho should always have a doctor's appointment then."
"I guess so." I laughed.
"Well, let's get going." she suggested.
"You go on ahead Mrs. Joo, I'll just catch up." I insisted.

The middle-aged woman agreed and left the room. When no one was in sight I grabbed the book and opened it on the blank page. Well, it wasn't really blank... The Prince Kim Jaejoong from the Land of Sarang actually figured out how we could keep in touch. The Wise Man gave him this magical paper which he used to actually write those warnings before. Now Jaejoong and I use it like e-mail only we write in ink. It didn't make me feel as good when he was still here but I rather have this than nothing at all. I replied to his message by writing on the blank page and as expected it gradually disappeared. It means, "Message sent!"

I placed the book back in my bag and made my way out. I was about to turn the door knob when the door flew open. I couldn't help but gasp.

"I am so sorry I didn't see you there."
I couldn't say a word. This man, this man looks like Jaejoong. The Prince Kim Jaejoong. I tried blinking my eyes numerous times. I can't believe it.
"Hey are you okay? Is something wrong? Do I have something on my face?" He kept blabbering.
"Am I too handsome for you?"

That specific statement of his snapped me back to reality, "I am sorry you said what?"

"Did I hurt you with the door?" he wondered. I-I thought he said...
"Ah, no, no. I am fine. I just got startled. That's all." I grinned.
"Sorry, I thought no one else was in here." he apologized again and bowed his head. He stretched his right arm attempting to initiate a handshake, "I am Lee Seungho."

I shook his hand, "I am Yoon Eunji."
"Ah!" he blurted, "You were my replacement for today?"
"Yes, I-I am."

I meekly nodded my head still not letting go of his hand. When he noticed I was hanging on for too long I sheepishly retrieved my hand. I am sorry he just, really looks like Jaejoong.

"Thank you for filling up for me. It's nice meeting a fellow book worm like you." he flashed such an angelic smile.

"I am glad to meet you too."

Aaaah, that was long.... but worth it! X)
So amazing, I love the quote and all...
So bittersweet..... The ending was a bit sad.... And you leave a cliffhanger there... I'm gonna go with my imaginations then....
Actually, I don't even remember the plot I gave to you, so I feel a bit clueless through reading this and I was feeling curious all over on what happens....
What would make this story more charming is the conveyance of the prince's feeling... The story feels like the girl was the only one longing for the prince...
But overall, I love it~ Thank you so much for taking your time to make my dream come true!!! :D
