My preference on reading fanfic
Recently I've noticed that there are many different authors out there in the community now. They left notes and comments which really puzzled me.
One example would be the "selfless" author. They are the ones who willingly update almost everyday and allows the readers to determine what happens next in the story.
I am really amazed at how they can udate so regularly. Now this is not bashing those authors but its more of personal experience. I've tried writing what my readers wanted early in my writing phase but I came to find it really tedious. The whole point of becoming an author is to try and convey or share your imagination with the readers. Where's the fun in writing if you don't control your characters or plot? It's just like English classes at school really. They force you to read a book and write about your opinions on it. Of course if you don't like the book you really have no opinion besides "this book is boring" yet you are still assessed on it. So you take upon the views of someone else and try to expand on that which is sooooo boring and very disappointing since you're really just wasting ur time.
Also as a silent reader, I want to read about something new. Some thing that's not mine and something that I can not easily predict. It's one of the reasons why authors really can't enjoy raring their own stories again be wise they wrote it. They know what's going to happen. No feelings of anticipation or suspense.
Finally it just doesn't flow right if you take everyone's story ideas into consideration. The story would jump here there and would seem like a cartoon series where you really don't have to watch previous episodes to understand later ones. There's no real 'big main plot'.
Another type of author is the 'new but old'
these are the authors who usually write such cliche plots. This is once again me just ranting. I'm not saying they're bad authors. I'm just stating that as a reader, I wouldn't really read their stories. Why? Because there is only a certain amount of 'plot twists' that can exist for a cliche plot without throwing the whole fic out of whack (like idk. A character who showed no signs of any abnormbility suddenly becomes a vampire). Because of this, I notice there are still some people trying to create their own version but really, it's all been seen before. Only different would probably be the dialogue.
-sigh-
I do t know. Maybe it's just me being a tight- and picky but that's how I see it. To me the most important thing in the plot is character development. How the character changes and reacts through the story. I don't care about them braking up because in the end they always end up together (and if not one always is still in love with the other). I just care about how the characters changed themselves so that they can reunite. There's only a certain amount of plots out there but if you vary it with ur writing style or character development, it becomes a whole new experience.
I know I rant on and on but I can at least try to get my point across :/
perhaps send me some fic recommendations :D
for now I shall wallow in my subscriptions with no new updates since November last year
