THE THIEF CHAPTER - original version

So, this was hurriedly typed so I'm sorry if it

--

Kim Jongin was excited.

The thief he’d been hunting for more than a year had been on an active strike once again. He knew because the demon targets usually something shiny meaning piece jewellery, gold, diamond and anything that practically sparkles, belongs to someone else and is the most precious thing in the world.

And right now, it’s probably planning on a stealing spree because a museum recently opened a gallery containing authentic treasures that once belonged to a Chinese couple named Wu Yi Fan and Huang Zi Tao before they passed away during the Victorian Era.

Even for Jongin, it was quite an amazing sight to see because it was clearly special and original and probably worth millions because of its uniqueness. An example of this is a glass covered 12 silver necklaces with a strangely designed diamond trinket hanging on to it each. The museum translated each one of it as a symbol for twelve elements: water, fire, earth, wind, teleportation and etc.

There’s also a ring with an encrusted black gem sitting snugly on a red cushion beside the glass display.

Yep.

The mysterious thief will certainly come for it.

The thief’s been so famous now because of his escapades that they named him “Light” because he practically steals everything that shines and has never once been caught in action. Even Jongin had never seen his face through the mask – or is he even wearing one?

There were actually times that precious artefacts would just vanish the next day after one night of exhibition for people to see and “Light” will leave a card on the glass case where the artefact was once where.

Soon enough, it became Light’s symbol.

--

“Are you sure about this?” Kyungsoo asked for the umpteenth time as they stood on guard, wearing black suits and all, a little apart from the crowd that was admiring the Wu family’s treasures. It was nearing closing time – 10 o’clock – and the full moon was beaming down at them through the glass roof with its faint light.

“Yes, yes, yes. Now stop talking,” Jongin sighed impatiently. Why does it have to be Kyungsoo that Joonmyun assigns for Jongin to partner up with? Kyungsoo can be a damn worry wart and has been nagging Jongin for how many times these past few hours now.

“But this is Light, we’re talking about. There’s another rare artefacts collection in another location near from here. What makes you guarantee that Light will choose this museum instead?” Kyungsoo asked.

“Because I know he will. The other opening collection only features bones and fossils and stuff. He wouldn’t be interested in that.”

“You really know Light, huh,” Kyungsoo mused as he tilted his head to the side when the museum finally announced its closing time. Its guest sighed for the final time, eyeing those twinkling trinkets with a longing and envious eye before one by one leaving.

“Of course. All my life, I’ve dedicated it to searching for him,” Jongin said simply as he slowly tensed, getting his nerves high with excitement. Finally.

“Why? You could have tracked somebody else and actually earn real money.”

Jongin shook his head as he took out his gun. “No. That’s not it. There’s something about the way Light moves about that got me itching into knowing who he truly is. He’s always where the security’s tight the most but still manages to get his job done inconspicuously without attracting attention and the guards don’t actually realize it until the alarms are blaring and the treasures are missing. Then there’s the fact that he moves stealthily enough not to get caught by the security cameras – only showing signs of a small fabric of sleeve and a tuft of hair and BAM! He’s gotten away once more.”

“If I hadn’t known you better, I’d say you’re obsessed,” Kyungsoo says, taking his gun out too as he moves a little bit behind Jongin.

“Joonmyun thinks so too. He once said that Light was my whoe life now. And sadly, it hit me that it’s actually true,” he sighed. “I don’t know what I’d do if a person like Light doesn’t exist. The world’s too boring so maybe that’s why I joined our agency.”

“I am sorry though that I wouldn’t be able to get to know you better after this,” Kyungsoo says.

Jongin turns around in confusion. “What do you mean-“

Suddenly, he felt searing pain on his head as Kyungsoo banged the of his gun on his head and suddenly, the whole world just tilted 360 degrees and he was vaguely aware when he accidentally drops his gun and he hit the floor.

Jongin’s vision was blurry as Kyungsoo looks at him affectionately as he kneeled in front of him. “I’m flattered though, Jongin…”

He felt his eyes closed as he couldn’t take the pain any longer.

“…that I’m the reason you keep on living. If then, I’ll continue stealing and running away. And you’ll keep running after me and have a reason to live. But for now, I’ve got some stealing to do.”

And Jongin felt his consciousness leave him altogether.
