Graphics Review: "Healing Incantation" by baechimi

Artist: baechimi

Program Used: Photoshop CS3

First Impression: 7/10

I like this poster. However, it is far to bright for the eyes, especialy when looking at it top down on a white background.

Technique: 18/20

I see that you know how to blend, cut and arrange things. For the most part, I think you did fine with that. However, I think you need to work a little on your color composition and adjustments. The colors all match, which is great, but they are far to bright and make the top part of the poster a bit hard to look at. Both the top images and the main text are a bit too bright. You can fix this by simply duplicating the layer, setting the blend mode to multiply and creating a layer mask, and using a black to white gradient to boost the color of the top.

Also, this is minor, but the line where the top pictures end and the bottom ones begin is visible. You can correct the problem by using the same method as above (just don't duplicate the layer, and instead apply the mask to the layer with the top pictures in it). If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask me :)

Resources 20/20

Not much to say about this, except that I think you did a great job with your resources. I think you used your textures well! The numbers are a little strange because I wouldn't really think of them as part of a spell/incantation, but that's just me (so full points for you!)

Composition 19/20

Again, I think you did a great job with composing this. I mean, the only thing that I would say is that instead of a chunk poem style (for the subtext), maybe try putting it on two lines. See more in the typography section.

Theme/Mood 10/10

Everything fits great. You can tell it's a fairytale romance by the pastel tones. I think that you could make the fairytale bit a little more obvious, I am not sure how, though. Maybe add some flowery embellishments to the title text?

Typography 9/10

You did great on the typography for this poster. I think if you want to use a decorative font for the main title, that fits a little more with the theme/mood, try something like Flower. For font combinations, generally, it is safe to pair a cursive and non-cursive font together. You can play with the serif/non-serif typefaces if you want, but it doesn't really matter. Here's some examples of font combinations that would work with your poster:

Extras 10/10

WONDERFUL. I really like your poster!
