Led Apple (Korean: 레드애플), commonly stylized as LEDApple or Ledapple, is five-member South Korean rock band formed by Startory Entertainment in 2010. The band currently consists of Youngjun, Hanbyul, Hyoseok, Kwangyeon and Kyumin.
The part "Led" in Led Apple stood for "Logic Egoism Delete" and was promoted during their debut but they stopped referring to it since their CODAmini-album was released. Instead they replaced it with a practical explanation of "shining as brightly as LED whenever they perform" which was eventually referred to as a tribute to their role-model, Led Zeppelin. The word "Apple" in the band's name is supposed to represent their fresh image as idols and fresh music that they release.[1] As of 2011, fans of Led Apple are officially known as "LEDAs".[2]
The band made their debut on October 6, 2010 with their promotional single, "Dash" (Korean: 대쉬), a remake of Baek Ji-young's song of the same name.[3][4] Since their debut, the band have released six singles and three mini-albums.[5]
History
[edit]2010–11: Debut, line-up changes and rising popularity
Prior to debut, member Minyong had been a contestant on the show Superstar K. The band was first revealed on September 27, 2010 as a five-member group and marketed as a new "idol rock band".[3] The teaser for their debut single was released on September 29.[6] On October 6, 2010, Led Apple performed their debut promotional single "Dash", which is a remake of a song originally sung by Baek Ji-young at the Busan International Film Festival and the music video was released the next day.[4][7] The band's single was released alongside their single album, Logic Egoism Delete.[5] They later performed the promotional single on November 11, 2010 on Mnet's M! Countdown as their first debut stage.[8]
On February 1, 2011, member I-OH announced his departure from the group on Twitter due to tuberculosis,[9] however he did state that he would remain with the company.[10] Vocalists of the group Minyong and Sunghyun later left due to personal reasons that were not publicly revealed. Three new members joined the band for the release of their mini-album, Niga Mwonde (Korean: 니가 뭔데; lit. Who Do You Think You Are); Hyoseok, Jaehoon and Kyumin with Jaehoon becoming leader of the band. On June 13, 2011, the band released a comeback teaser for their mini-album and title track of the same name.[11] However, the teaser was criticized for featuring the band in a club and drinking alcohol. Three members of Led Apple were minors at the time, and so the teaser was considered a bad influence towards youths.[12]
The band's first mini-album, Niga Mwonde and lead single of the same name were released on June 15, 2011 alongside two different music videos; a regular version and a drama version.[13][14]However, the band faced another controversy after many internet communities claimed that Led Apple's single "Niga Mwonde" had plagiarized CN Blue's song, "Love".[15] However, Startory Entertainment later released a statement addressing the plagiarism issue, stating that both songs were composed by Lee Sang-ho which is why they sounded similar.[16] Niga Mwonde peaked at number sixty-seven on the Gaon Chart.[17]
On July 19, 2011, Led Apple released their second promotional single from the mini-album Niga Mwonde, "Birthday Killer".[18] The song was released in an attempt to make anti-fans realise that their hate comments can cause idols to do extreme things out of their misery.[19] The music video was praised for being "powerful" in bringing out a message by critics and fans alike.[20] However the song was not a commercial success and didn't manage to peak within the top one-hundred on the Gaon Chart.[17]
After ending their promotions for the Niga Mwonde mini-album, leader Jaehoon left the band citing personal reasons; no other information was disclosed. On October 28, 2011, the band announced a new member would be joining them for their upcoming single, Keon U who is well-known as the son of famous composer, Park Kwang-hyun.[21] Another new member, Hanbyul was also announced on November 3 as the new appointed leader of the group alongside teaser photos of the rest of the band, thus making them a six-member group.[22]
On November 7, the teaser for their next mini-album, CODA was released and it also revealed Led Apple's new sci-fi concept. An extended nine minute version of the teaser was also released on November 9 and was dubbed the "drama teaser".[23] The music video for their next single, "Eojjeoda Majuchin" (Korean: 어쩌다 마주친; lit. Ran Into You By Chance) was released on November 11 and it featured former SeeYa member, Nam Gyu-ri as a cyborg and love interest in the video.[24] In the week beginning December 2, the band's mini-album, CODA managed to reach an impressive number six on the Gaon Chart.[17] On December 15, 2011, Led Apple was nominated for the "Anticipated Super Rookies for 2012" award at the Wave K Super Rookies Awards.[25] The band managed to achieve the third highest amount of votes for the award losing out to RaNia and B1A4, respectively.[26]
[edit]2012–present: K-Rookies Party, Vol. 1 and solo concerts
On January 29, 2012, Led Apple revealed a teaser for their newest single, "Time Is Up".[27] It was later announced that Led Apple appointed the new leader of the band to be Youngjun, since Hanbyul who was leader at the time didn't like responsibilities.[28] On February 2, the band made the their comeback stage on Mnet's M! Countdown with their newest single, "Time Is Up" and the song was released the next day. The music video was released on February 6 and the single was heavily promoted on music shows.[29][30] On February 12, it was announced that Led Apple would star in their own reality television show titled, Led Apple Entertainment where the six members have to start up and control their own fictional entertainment company whilst also having trainee singers join their company.[31] The show began airing on February 15 and the final episode aired on March 21 on SBS MTV.[31]
On March 5, Led Apple announced on their Facebook page that the band would cease their promotions for "Time Is Up" and be releasing a new digital single titled, "Sadness".[32][33] Their single was released on March 9 and they also performed it on KBS's Music Bank as their comeback stage.[34] On March 16, the band made their Japanese debut after attending the K-Rookies Party, Vol. 1 concert that took place in the Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo, Japan.[35] The band performed four of their songs as part of the concert's finale and later expressed their desire to come back to Japan during the press conference.[36] On March 26, Led Apple released the music video for "Sadness" and the song peaked at number 58 on the Gaon Chart.[17][37]
After ending their promotions for "Sadness", the group announced that they would be holding their first solo concert titled, Now Playing – Led Apple in Seoul, Vol. 1.[38] The concert took place on May 11, at the Soundholic City in Seoul.[39] It also featured the band, Toxic, the winner of KBS2's Band Survival: TOP band as guest performers.[40] Due to the success of their first solo concert, the band held two extra provincial concerts in Daegu and Busan on May 18 and 19, respectively.[41] The group also announced their return to Japan with their second solo concert.[42] Their second solo concert was held on June 23, at the Shinagawa Prince Stellar Ball in Tokyo, however Keon U was unable to perform alongside the group due to health problems.[43][44]
On July 5th, 2012, Led Apple released a music video for their song "Run To You" from their third mini-album "Run To You". The song is currently being promoted on music shows. Former member KeonU departed from the group due to health issues shortly after the song was released.
On October 5th, 2012, Led apple had their " Now playing Led apple vol.2" concert at Hongdae, v-hall.
On November 15th, 2012, Led apple released their newest single "Let The Wind Blow".
Led apple is currently performing a 'Music Note' series on their official Youtube channel, where once a week they perform a cover.

[edit]
- They debuted on October 7th, 2010 with the song Dash. It’s a remake of Baek Ji-young’s song of the same name.
- Originally, the “LED” part of their name meant “Logic Egoism Delete” but that changed to mean something of the sort “shining brightly as LED when they perform”. That changed again, saying it was a reference to their role model Led Zeppelin.
- The “Apple” part of their name was said to represent their “fresh music and image as idols”.
- The fandom is called LEDA and the fan color is Pearl Teal.
- Their company is Starkim Entertainment.
- Their are currently the same amount of current members as their are past members. The current 5 being Youngjun, Hanbyul, Hyoseok, Kwangyeon, and Kyumin. The 5 past members are I-OH/Kiwook, Minyong, Sunghyun, Jaehoon, and KeonU.
- Current members Kwangyeon and Youngjun are the only consistent members in the group. Kwangyeon used to go by the name “ZEU” in LEDApple’s debut days.
- I-OH/Kiwook left the group due to health issues; more specifically, tuberculosis. He stated that he would remain within the company. Currently, he’s an ulzzang and will debut as an actor in the future.
- Sunghyun left LEDApple due to feeling like he wouldn’t be able to improve himself as a musician with the band.
- The reasons why Minyong and Jaehoon left weren’t revealed publicly. KeonU also left the group for health and personal reasons. There’s not much info about what he is doing currently, but it was said he wants to focus on composing more.
- Jaehoon is in a band called BEAT4, they have not debuted yet. Minyong is a participant on “The Last Audition of my Life”. Sunghyun usually is a travelling drummer for various bands, but is also in a band called SwitchOn.
- Beginning of 2013, SwitchOn disbanded, nothing was said about what the other members are doing yet. Bassist Gijun is said to be in a new band, though.
- LEDApple ex-member Sunghyun enlisted into the military on March 11, 2013.
- Jung Junyoung, Lee Chihoon, Oh Byunghyun, and Seungjun (family name unknown) were “unofficial” members of LEDApple, they trained with them but never debuted with the band.
- Lee Chihoon did not debut with LEDApple as he said that the two of them had different preferred music tastes.
- The teaser for How Dare you was criticized for having club/alcohol references, since 3 members at the time were minors and it wasn’t a good influence for younger audiences.
- They had another problem with How Dare You as well; people had accused them of plagiarizing CNBLUE’s song called Love. LEDApple’s company stated that they sounded the same because composer Lee Sang-ho was the same for both songs.
- Their song Birthday Killer was wrote by the bassist Kwangyeon, with the lyrics explaining how it was directed to the anti-fans and how their negative words could cause them to do extreme things out of misery.
- They’ve uploaded a video on their youtube toward the anti-fans as well. Comments from the anti-fans are featured on the screen as the actual video shows them playing their own instruments and singing, proving that they do play them instead of “handsyncing”, or simply explained; pretending to play the instruments. (like lipsyncing, except for instruments.)
- LEDApple were nominated for the “Anticipated Super Rookies for 2012” award in 2011, and they were in 3rd place under RaNia and B1A4.
- LEDApple won their 1st award, “Rookie Award (Idol Division)” on the 20th Korean Cultural Entertainment Award on December 6th, 2012.
- LEDApple won 2nd place in the European So-Loved Awards for Rock/Alternative.
- Out of the current members, Hanbyul used to be the leader but early 2012 it was changed to Youngjun, since Hanbyul was focusing on his studies.
- They had a reality show called “LEDApple Entertainment”
- There was also a mini-series called “LEDA Day” with 4 parts to it. It’s basically just featuring the members on their days during promotions for Run To You. There’s a season 2 to LEDA Day with another 4 parts.
- LEDApple started posting videos in early 2013 of the band covering other popular artist’s songs as a way to reach more fans and get more interest from people.
- There will be 50 Music Note videos.

LED Apple fun facts
1. LED Apple - LED of course is an acronym for LOGIC EGOISM DELETE. Yes. it makes perfect sense for this band, as in, it makes no sense at all -.- but is absolutely wonderful :D LED means to shine like L.E.D on the stage, and Apple means fresh like an apple, besides that they took a word "LED" from a famous band 'LED Zeppelin'.
2. LED Apple is known as 'Performance Band', because they insert choreography in each of their performance.
3. LED Apple has a uniqe concept because they had two vocalists and one DJ.
4. Their average height above 180 cm.
5. "How Dare You" had been controversial because the teaser was show the members enjoyed the club and alcohol, whereas they had a members under age (Kwangyein, Kyumin, Hyoseok).
6. Appear a controversy that "How Dare You" was rumored plagiarism of the song "Love" that belong to CN Blue. It denied by Startory Ent because it's impossible, besides the composer of both songs is the same person, Lee Sangho.
7. Dance move 'Grabbing collar' was a hot topic among fans.
8. Ulzzang Lee Chihoon was trained to be a member of LED Apple, but because of differences music taste, he left the group.
9. LED Apple attracked much attention because of the instruments they use. Keonu use a DJ emulator and Youngjoon use a touchpad guitar
HanByul was the last member to join LEDApple, however, he was able to snatch the role of the team leader.
According to the members, “As one of the team’s elders, HanByul has this unique personality that can make a united atmosphere among the members, that’s why fair and square he was voted as the leader”, they said.
Born in Australia, Hanbyul was a model student who is proud of his A and A+ grades.
Although he attends the Queensland University of Dentistry, he moved to South Korea to fulfill his dreams of becoming a singer and went through an audition to debut under LEDApple.
Since he has only been studying korean for a few years, it is difficult to understand him speak korean.
Also he couldn’t laugh at some episodes because he can’t understand. ^.^
Such powerful vocals that can reach high-pitched notes,
Charming dimples with even more charming vocals, would you like to fall for HanByul?
