Writing Tips Part 1

*I can’t say that I’m an expert writer, but I just want to share some of the things I do that got my writings enhanced, and what I’m doing to make my writing better! ^-^ Feel free to share yours too!

1. Write. Always find time to sit down and write with your pencil or your pen or turn your laptop/pc on and type. No matter what, find time to write regularly. This way, you’ll get to practice your grammar and vocabulary and believe me, in no time, you’ll see how your writings can go better.

2. Write about what you want – but don’t forget to try what might not attract your attention. It’s like trial and error – you’ll never know what you don’t want to write unless you try to write them. If you like romance, go and make a head start, but it doesn’t hurt to try action even if you don’t like it. Writing stories, essays, or even poems deal with flexibility. It doesn’t hurt to try all kinds of genre and see what seems fit in your interest.

3. Read a lot. Reading books enhances the vocabulary and can give you samples of different writing styles. You should always find time to read – whether they’re magazines, fiction books, non-fiction, newspapers, or your textbooks.

4. Browse the dictionary for certain words that you think might be helpful in your writing. Beware in the usage of words with very deep meanings and of from old origin. You don’t want your readers to get annoyed with your flooded heavy words. Be crisp and natural, and add some class with putting leveled up words. (Just don’t exaggerate too much. If the character’s action just implies “said”, don’t change it to anything else. “Said” is not overrated.)

5. Listen to music. Music is a very powerful instrument in this world. It can inspire you. It can affect your mood. It can be your fortress when nothing else seems right. I listen to songs most of the time when I type my stories and poems. It triggers my imagination more and inspires me more to continue the whole chapter. If you are in need of a new plot (popping out of the mind is what a plot usually does, but there are more circumstances), go ahead and listen to some songs and see if you’ll be able to formulate a plot.

*That’s it for part 1! I hope it can help for those who are looking for some guides or tips in writing! Next part will be up soon!
