wang jiaying was taught to be a lady. with her, sophistication and elegance are the priorities in life. subsequently, she was raised a lady with her mannerisms; practiced grace was in each light step she took and every flick of the wrist or movement was executed fluidly. she would straighten her back and keep her head held high like a regal queen - all of which would befit a socialite, a lady. due to this, she practices things that aren't  seen frequently nowadays compared to before, such as going to church on sunday, waits until marriage, even tea ceremonies. her appearance plays along with this act of hers, leaning towards her mother with magnolia-white skin and red lips, she was the rose among the thorns and would be mistaken to be a fragile young lady - jiaying is anything but. unlike the rest of her family - so committed to traditions and virtues - she was at the crossroads with both looks of a lady, but the mind of a businessman - it was a dangerous combination. she was a rational thinker with a cunning touch of mischievousness and persuasiveness because of how well she acted; she's a good liar. there's no doubt in that. she knew how to manipulate people with her acting skills; knew to push what buttons to earn the right response. she's always a five steps ahead and ready to attack, whether directly or indirectly because her perceptiveness allows her to discover things about you, like habits or deep secrets. when there's a scandal, she's the group's "savior" because she doesn't ignore the questions, but gives the public a statement that's believable, unquestionable, and what the company can build upon to make it more reasonable. but don't think that this makes her this manipulative ice queen. she can be nice  and kind. being one of the oldest of the group, she takes the role of the mother and members and friends alike come to her for advice even though she's never experienced it first-hand; sometimes people need some practicality and old-fashioned in the spur of drama. while having the capability to reduce a person to their worst, she's also capable of being a laid-back person. with her close ones - if they manage to put up with her and her smartass, snarky side comments  - she's always there for them and they've earned a loyal, sagacious friend who's a good listener.

living in her world was filled with playing politics, business tactics, and scandals. so she ended up being an independent girl; being a socialite wasn't all fun and games after all. jiaying created an outer shell of herself, her outer shell - other than being a "lady" - was tough and hardy, like the greek god's shoulders carrying earth, and was able to withstand heavy burdens. the saying, "stick and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me" corresponds well with independent personality because she's been called names before [ fake , hard-nosed ] and holds her head up with an impassive face, ignoring it as though it was nothing. and to her, it is nothing. words are words; nothing more, nothing less because it is what it is and there's nothing to it. that and the criticism she gets from being the heiress or the wang group while being an idol as well. she knows that it's out of norm for her to be the first in her family to be something other than the pretty, but powerful wife, but she doesn't care because she wants to make a name of herself instead of living off her her surname - she gets to do what she loves. these are the perks of putting up a shell and having strong shoulders to carry burdens. however, one can hold so much before they start to crack. for jiaying, it's quite obvious that she doesn't get hurt easily, but she doesn't heal easily as well. the thing with her is that you can only hurt her when you hurt her emotionally, not physically or mentally; it doesn't work like that with her. either, you hurt her from the inside and trigger pulling her heartstrings, which requires meticulous work. usually, it's love or sometimes criticism that triggers her pain. being independent and too caught up in work, she's turned cynical, never truly experiencing love and her initial views of it are that it's a distraction, and perhaps even a little lonely and scared about it. if she would have been in love, then she would have been denying that she ever did, but then it gets the better of her and she turns into a mess. basically, if you make her fall in love, the person that she's fallen in love with will be holding her heart and that's what she's scared of. she doesn't want to get hurt.

on the 1990's fifth of december, the ceo of the wang group - wang guoling - had been informed a boy was going to be born. but of course, everyone makes mistakes and then wang jiaying  born; but she wasn't a boy. one can imagine how disappointed her father had been, as there was no heir to be next in line to manage the prestigious wang group, one of asia's largest companies that were expanding world-wide. but jiaying's wife, daiyu, had always welcomed any child, boy or girl, and she did it warmly with jiaying, making her husband do the same. during the time when her mother was alive, jiaying lived a relatively happy childhood. that was until her mother died. wang daiyu was a frail woman from the start and she had known that she wouldn't have survived giving birth to another child, but she had chosen to sacrifice for it, ignoring what the doctors had told her. she had died when jiaying was six and her death affected the wang family greatly. jiaying's father became more distant and was strict on jiaying, assigning tutors to train her with mannerisms of a lady, to earn top the academic ranks. at age twelve, jiaying moved to london, uk as her father's comany was expanding globally. during 2007, sm held their global auditions and it was this time she had decided to not care about what her family would say. she didn't expect to pass so she didn't tell anyone, but she did and it was inevitable that she would explain it to her father. guoling, initially angry, decided to rethink the idea of his daughter being an idol, seeing as it would give more recognition for the company if the group's success was known world-wide. he acknowledged her decision, saying that if she was going to be a trainee, then she must debut and become successful.

when jiaying was living in london, sm's annual global auditions were held in 2007. when she passed the auditions, during the time, she was criticized for having the "easy way" in because of her background as the wang group's heiress. jiaying had learned to ignore these comments, making few friends and worked hard to be the top of the batch of trainees. although the socially-awkward-but-teacher's-pet girl, she had participated in helping compose boa's song, "only one" because of her song-writing ability and being featured in snsd's "hoot" and tvxq's "before u go" due to her acting abilities.

[ "you know, it's totally your choice, but you two should be together, swimming," she says bluntly. "shut up will you?" "never." ]

perhaps it was just fate playing with her, but she met him on her worst days, on the wrong foot. she had known it was going to a bad day when she had already spilled her coffee on someone and woke up late for the day of being sm's official trainee. she was rushing there, but then, of course, fate just had to come and take the hat off her head and slap it into the face of this tall, chinese guy she'd never seen before - aka li jiaheng; aka wu yifan; aka kris wu. her patience had grown thin that day and kris simply stretched it by holding it over her and taunting her to say "sorry." finally, she apologized and snatched the hat  before walking away, mumbling derogatory words under her breath in english. unfortunately, for her, he understood and replied in the same language fluently with, "i heard that." her breath hitched and she turned around, meeting his mocking eyes and smirk. she scoffed (with an embarrassed fluster on her face) before hurrying away.
