SILENCED - A Korean Film (A Review??)

Just finished watching SILENCED/The Crucible/Do-Ga-Ni. . . . .

All I have to say is...

FREAKISHLY INTENSE!

It was a great movie and a horrible movie at some parts.

So, this movie is based on a true account in about 2000 in Gwangju, South Korea. A new teacher is going to be working as an art teacher in a school for the hearing-impaired. The teacher meets with the principal and the director of admin, who happen to be twin brothers. The director of admin wants the new guy, InHo to pat 50 MILLION Korean won (Roughly $50,000 US) to work there. (Like what the hell?!) And InHo is a financial problem since his daughter, who goes by Sol, has asthma and has to ask his mother for money. When InHo is teaching, he feels concerned about how distant they are.

On his way home one day, InHo notices a student of his, YuMi sitting on the window of her room. Since she is deaf, she can't hear him yell at her to go back into her room. He rushes to her room and pulls her in. When she feels that his arms around, she begins to freak out. When InHo communicates with her she starts to calm down. She takes him down the stairs and stops at the top before a door. YuMi runs away and he goes down. What he sees terrifies him, a woman Yoon Ja-Ae is dunking a young girl, YeonDo's head in a washing machine as a punishment. InHo helps YeonDo and takes her to the hospital. The third child that InHo meets is a boy named MinSu. One of the first times InHo sees him, another teacher, Mr. Park is beating MinSu for sneaking out of the residency. InHo can't really do anything because of his job. (EXPLODED RIGHT HERE!!!

Later, InHo and a woman he met earlier, YuJin, find out that these children are victims of being ually molested! And by the faculty of the school! The Principal, the director of Administration & Mr. Park Bo-Hyun! (F**K!!!! I about punched my TV!) The children tell their stories as InHo and YuJin help get justice for the children.

It's incredibly upsetting and full of suspense... as well as graphic (NO PARTS THOUGH! Thank Krisus!) I cried a good 10 times watching this movie for my first time watching this. I could honestly say that if I was one of the children or a witness, no matter WHAT, I would have probably murdered the people touching me/my fellow classmates. NO ONE deserves to go through that at such a young age. These children were younger than 13 years old and it had been happening to at least one of them for as long as, I believe 3 or 5 years. (I can't remember at the moment.). I was so pissed . . . . .

So here is my opinion of the movie. . . .

Good:

  • The acting of the children was amazing! Their roles were really difficult, to say the least.

Yeah. . . Not a lot besides that.

Bad:

  • The fact that it was a true story really pisses me off.
  • The one person I absolutely LOVED (and found out that I am his noona ^^;) ... His ending was just upsetting! (Noona loves you, Baek SeungHwan!!!!)
  • The ending was some-what bad or good. . .  It was neutral...
  • Finding out that the principal's wife is actually his sister... *shiver*

Yeah, so I got really! emotional in this movie and so did my brothers and my cousin. . . . We got really angry that these kids were being, pretty much by these old fools! I don't want to give away too much without you watching this so I'll stop here. Watch it or not after reading this. . . . It's honestly your choice, but if you don't like this kind of stuff, DON'T WATCH IT! I was crying for these kids and . . . *sigh* It's really hard to explain ^^;

If you've watched this, tell me your thoughts.

If you are going to watch this. . . . just, beware and get your Kleenexes ready as well as a pillow to scream at and a punching bag. ^^; Also tell me what you thought too! I'd love to know!
