About This Whole Featured/Advertising Thing...
When I originally wrote this blog I was fairly excited for the voting system
but to be honest the more I think about it, the less I like it.
The first thing I dislike? Notice that for every vote a story
gets, that author earns to Karma points. Well what happens when
all of the top author's stories get a ton of votes
(naturally since they have more readers)
and then get a surplus of karma?
I'll tell you what happens. They then have an outrageous
amount of karma and will ALWAYS outbid everyone
for the ad placement -_- this seems less and less fair
the longer I think about it. The only good thing is that
those who got votes to be featured but didn't win will
get to keep their karma. The way I see things?
Everyone ought to vote for stories that they like by an
author that way the author will earn plenty of karma
and stand somewhat of a chance at purchasing an ad!
A sudden thought I had while replying to a comment
on this blog. I think that the advertising should not be able to
be bought by a person to promote their own story. Look
at it this way. If I'm popular and have a ton
of people to vote for my story, I'll be featured. In that
same scenario, I also have lots of karma and
will be able to also buy a spot.
If only readers can buy spots for the ads, it will be a
better incentive to comment (so they can buy an ad spot
for a good story). Let's face it, if I had an average amount
of readers they will never get my story voted into the
featured spot, they just can't compete with the number of
readers belonging to top authors. That's just my idea anyway,
I think it would be a bit more fair that way.
Side note: To all of those lovely readers whom have bid to
have someone else's story promoted you are simply angels.
I got a PM from a reader whom was really upset she couldn't
win a bid for me and it just brought me to tears. Wae you guys so
kind hearted?! Thus it prompted me to follow the trend of
karma, and bid to have a story of my favorite author in an
ad as well! Keep your fingers crossed, so far it's winning ^-^
